Could use Royal Ludroth's Wreched Water gene. Lowering the enemies thunder defence could be very effective at making thunder monsties like Astalos hit even harder

I know he's not the most powerful monstie, but I ended up using Ivory Legiacruz as my electric type and fed him a bunch of Astalos and Zinogre genes. Though once I find a Thunderlord egg I'll probably be switching him out. Astalos is really good, even if only for donating his genes

Astalos has been a mainstay on my team since I got him in LR, he came in clutch in the story fight with Nergigante, and has been great in the early goings of HR, only monster I have that’s starting to lag behind is Nargacuga.

Try Green Nargacuga. It’s comparable to Anjanath, and Anja seems to do well up to HR from what I’ve seen. Might tide you over until you get Silverwind.

Definitely feel like Ivory Lagiacrus, Rajang, Kirin, and Thunderlord Zinogre are currently all better thunder monsters, but I'm hoping Boltreaver Astalos is a game changer

To be fair thejoys of MH: Stories is being able to have the monsters you like and give them genese from monsters with good overall genes to improve them. It's what I did at least to make my Lagiacrus better, I gave him the Ivory Lagiacrus gene for Electric Breath (L) and replaced the Electric Breath (S). Little things like that help if you like a monsters Aesthetic or a certain weaker monster holds a special place in your heart, things like that will hel to keep them as more manageable mainstays in your game. I do intend to evnetually take some Zinogre genes and add them to Tobi-Kadachi to improve him too.

I got Astalos but didn't take him because I hadn't leveled him up enough before Nergigante. I actually took the beast out with my supercharged electric lizard-squirrel- Tobi.

I love astalos but I love zinogre, it’ll be hard to choose which one to pick Edit: wait, if he’s a technical what’s stopping me from them both >:))

Lack of elemental diversity would be the nly thing stopping me from doing both. Im trying to do 2 Power, 2 Speed and 2 Technical with as much element diversity as i can.... but it's not easy. So far the Best i've been able to manage is Ratha and Brute Tigrex as my power Mainstays, Legiana and Nargacuga as mainstay speeds and Astalos and Mizutsune as my main technicals. I swap here and there when i need rider abilities and such but that's what I've set up with for now, swapping here and there between Lagiacrus, Blk Gravios and Tobi-Kadachi (i know Zinogre is a better monster with Jump but i can't help it i love my Viper Puppy.)

Save up alot of charms and then feed it all u dont need. I feed it 30 adamant charms and it got to lvl 12

It’s kinda down to preference but Astalos is generally the better of the two as it has better defenses, crit rate and pretty much the same offensive power as Zinogre

Astalos has the ability to fly which is pretty cool and Zin can just use jump. At that point you can easily replace Zen with a palamute of your favorite element that will have both jump/ivy climb and can keep Asta in your party to make him a crit hitter
