There's so many exceptions to every rule that I think it is a waste of time to tell them. You gave this "8~11" rule for energy. It doesn't apply to charizard, lugia vstar, miraidon, dragapult, or snorlax stall. All strong meta decks.
@eonforest43 ай бұрын
There are definitely reasons why those decks work and why those exceptions are pretty normal right now. It merits its own video, but these decks can get away with it because of prize/damage pathing and how they power up. For example, in Charizard ex you can typically expect to attack about three times in a game to get all 6 prizes, and late game you can use radiant Charizard for one energy to clutch up the last prizes, meaning on average you need 5 energy to successfully win a game. Then you up that energy count by 1 assuming that one of those energies gets prized. Without radiant Charizard, zard decks will probably switch to blood moon or just add 1 more energy. *Or switch to dusknoir to help snipe off single prize support Pokemon (which requires 0 energy)

It's a much more advanced logic behind deck building and this video is meant more for helping players get to the intermediate level. It is a topic that needs addressing though! Thanks for pointing it out
@jeremye115922 күн бұрын
One problem with how you worded this point is that you specifically called out Charizard EX, saying “No deck should run such an energy count” while you had Charizard EX on screen, even though it can function with only 6 energies

@@jeremye1159not if they meet me and my espathra ex deck...😂 Love it when they only play 6-7 energies and then relize they need 60% of their decks energies to do 1 attack 😂 especially if it's a newer player and puts an energy on Pidgeotto 😂

Thank you! I have watched countless deck building videos and the minority are focused on basic deck building or mono decks which is great for understanding the basics of deck make up but when i search out competitive decks i have been directed to the Limitless site and that is also great information for seeing what has worked for others but i need to know how and why and what. You have given me that here and i really appreciate you. First video that i have seen so far with any mention of testing your deck on your own. Thank you for showing me what that looks like and how to do it. I know that there are a lot of people who watch KZbin videos just to make negative comments to meet some deep psychological need in their life and thats okay too i guess, but just know that what you have presented here has helped this new Pokrmon player far more than any other video i have watched to this point and i have watched a lot of them.

I always loved playing a deck that was based around fishing out magmortar and registeel. It was a blast and dealt huge damage. Not even slightly competition viable im sure, but it was a blast in my younger years.

This style of video is primed to blow up in this niche and I think it's pretty good too 😃 hopefully there are more to come. I would like to see some examples of what you're talking about, you mentioned Pokestop is a tech card but LZB and Chien Pao both run 3-4 copies of it, essentially making it an engine card. They can afford to do this because they run very thin supporter lines and upwards of 32 items

Unless I am mistaken, tech cards are usually cards that aim to help with one specific match up (like drapion V to deal with mew V max). They usually lower consistency overall

I'm in the process of building my first deck, and I'm struggling to decide whether to use all the Pokémon I like or cutting the Pokémon count down a little to increase deck consistency. I'm currently sitting at 19 Pokémon, but I'm playing a Magmortar/Electivire combo alongside a few copies of Infernape. I only plan on playing casually, but I'd still like to make the deck as viable as possible. This is a very helpful guide that will hopefully assist me in achieving that goal
@eonforest43 ай бұрын
Cutting Pokemon can be the toughest part! You'll like the idea and the Pokemon in theory and then it doesn't pan out. It's one of the saddest feelings for me
@chiefchimchar3 ай бұрын
@@eonforest4 Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I bought the full arts of Magmortar and Electivire from Crown Zenith because I love the art, but I don't think they're going to work as well as something like Camerupt would with the new Infernape that just came out. All I can do is test it and swap them out if it doesn't work out. Worst case, they'll look good on display!

well, my deck is build around Alakazam ex (S&V 151 Mew Edition) and it looks like this Pokémon 20x • Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam ex 1x (Regular Set) • Abra/Kadabra/Alakazam ex 3x (Promo Set) • Mewtwo 1x • Mew ex 1x • Farfetch'd 4x • Kangaskhan ex 1x • Aerodactyl 2x Items/Supporters/Stadiums/Tools 25x • Antique Old Amber 4x • Big Air Baloon 2x • Bill's Transfer 4x • Cycling Road 1x • Daisy's Help 2x • Energy Sticker 4x • Erika's Invitation 4x • Giovanni's Charisma 2x • Leftovers 2x Basic Energy 15x • Psychic Energy 12x (Regular Set) • Psychic Energy 3x (Holo) and I am quite content with it, each card is there for a reason and the deck itself is pretty consistent Obviously it's heavy hitter is Alakazam ex, sometimes Kangaskhan ex if the deck is shuffled way too much 😅 or my price cards are holding hostage some of my Alakazam's ex evolutions. Farfetch'd is there to help me with quick card draws and Aerodactyls are there to cause issues with my opponents evolutions if necessary, plus they hit quite hard for little energy. Mew ex is there to "watch" over main star of the deck and Mewtwo is there to slow the opponent down for a bit and so on... yes the deck is build around just one expansion, that is S&V 151 Mew Set but it works well, especially because of those four Alakazams which are just insane and for just two energy. if need be, I got Energy Stickers to fish my discarded Energy back to my hand and the Stadium is there to accelerate my pull rate even more Daisy is there to reveal my price cards and give me a pull rate boost for the turn and Giovanni is there to slow down powering of my opponents pokémon Air Baloons are there to help facilitate my free retreat cost rotations and Leftovers are there to help with healing my pokémon that I use to slow the opponent down a bit until I get my Alakazams online Erika is there to bring forth basic unpowered pokémon to the active spot for one hit KO's and Bill is there to accelerate my pullrate of needed evolutions The Energies are there to power up my pokemon in just right amount, little extra due to my Stadium if need as a secrifitial cards which I can pull out with my other item so far, the deck is serving me quite well 7/10 win rate :) I usually loose when my price cards are not cooperating 😅 or my energy pull rate is abysmal due to well shuffled deck (little too good) I recommend this teck for playing, you should give it a try :)

I just looked at a deck I have, and I saw it does NOT fit in the "12~16 pokemon" rule. It has 22, and the only pokemon that aren't there to deal with a semi-popular matchup are either my main source of powering up my main attacker (I'm running an extra 1-1 for consistency), or my actual main attacker. Granted, my deck is by no means meant to be a "meta" deck, but still, the deck isn't brick-y, and I usually have what I need at hand whenever I need it, including the right pokemon

Any tips for deck testing? Is it better test online or print some proxies
@eonforest427 күн бұрын
online has a testing mode but the ai is absolute trash. I'd say it depends on what you'd prefer. Online lets you quickly throw together a deck and see if it actually works, but both in person and online let's you refine the deck when its in the later stage of testing. In person I feel has a bit of an edge because you don't have to play each game to the end. For example: you know you're going to win but want to test the deck instead of getting ladder points so you have the benefit of an instant reset to test again. Both options have merits, it really depends on what you prefer.

Any cards that got a reprint are legal. Old copies of tools and cards like super rod all automatically get an errata to match the most recent printing. In general, most cards like Pokemon, tools, stadiums, etc, won't be legal. But evergreen cards like switch, energy search, great ball, ultra ball, basic energies, are all playable since they got a legal reprint.

Disagree with your take on tech cards. Some of the ones you mentioned are essential consistency cards for specific archetypes. I.e. tm evo and pokestop. Otherwise nice video

fair enough! I think tech cards are a deep enough topic to merit their own video because there's a lot of nuance behind those cards.
