Lots of great tips! I used to wear sunglasses a lot, but recently, I started using a teleprompter to see myself. It's a really nice hack, especially for people like me, whose minds go blank when they look into the void of a camera lens. It helps me check framing and feels more like talking to a human, even if the other human is me lol.

Do you recommend memorising the scripts?
@VicBarry23 күн бұрын
Depending on what you're doing - It's definitely something worth considering depending on the video you're making, but certainly have some structure to what you're talking about, even via bullet points. Learning scripts for videos is an art and quite hard to do, even in mutliple takes. You're more stressed about trying to remember your lines than anything else, and that can come across in videos. I'd start with bullet points and see how that goes, but whatever you find works best for you :)

I agree in most cases, but your video is still too stressful for me. Not only for autistic people like me, I'm pretty sure you're using your hands too much, your voice raises too often, there are too many distractions, you try to be funny too often and it's too much "powerful, with energy, ...". If this sounds harsh, I'm sorry. It's not meant like that. Another thing which I really hate is, when people talk without interruptions. I can't listen to people longer than 3-5 minutes without them having a break. Most of the time it's about three minutes max. After that I get aggressions. There are lots of german youtubers which sound like they have a brain damage because of talking like robots with way too much emphasis on nearly every single syllable. I can'T really explain, what I mean. Perhaps you understand.
@VicBarry Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your perspective so openly. I understand that my communication style may not suit everyone, and I respect your need for a different approach. It's important for me to be authentic and true to myself in the way I create and present my content. While I may not change my style entirely, I hope we can find common ground where you still find value in what I have to share. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The first thing I noticed about myself and my thoughts is how much the words, "so" and "ok" are my first words (or first thoughts). "So, here is.....," "so you can see here...." Or, "ok, here we are....." or "ok, this is a....." Or, "ok, so, here is a ........" It's a greeting I prefer to avoid. It definitely comes from my anxiety.

Admittedly, I am only two minutes through this video… But this is so hard to do! I took a golf lesson once and the golf pro told me, “you’ve got one really great thing going for you… You have an amazing practice swing.“ 😂 But then I get super Squirrley and weird when I get in front of a ball. That’s exactly how I feel on camera. I can do the walk-through with my film crew and it’s perfect. But then, once they hit record, I go into this weird presentation mode. I hate it!
@VicBarry9 күн бұрын
Hey Barrett, the more you do it the easier it gets. But, what you could do is do more than one walkthrough. Just ensure the film team don’t tell you they’re recording. I generally do that without some professional shoots where I never say we’re rolling. Between a few “walkthroughs” you’ll get something really good and you won’t feel that weird. Definitely worth a shot.

Cheers 👍 On the VO stuff it’s very much a case of just practice, practice, practice. Put together a reel and get it out there. Don’t try to be absolutely everything with hundreds of voices. Producers really are only looking for a few at a time if that makes sense and you have to have what fits. On the practice stuff pick say an accent and just keep at it so it’s completely consistent. Don’t read lines with it while practicing. Narrate your day with it. Out loud. That helps make it more fluid.
