For the lovely folks that say this is possible with Trackspacer and/or Fabfilter Pro-Q3: Yes, it kind of is, but you will need to add multiple instances of the plugins to have separate sidechain INPUTS like I do here on the video. Don't confuse sidechain *sources* with sidechain *inputs* they are a very, very different thing :)
@gulagwarlord
@gulagwarlord 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds about right... you can also use Soothe 2 for this, and Neutron too. I really wish Ableton would copy some of this functionality into eq8 though.

Bitwig doesn't even support multiple sidechain sources (without hacking together a cluttered mess of multiple audio receivers), let alone multiple inputs. Similarly, it doesn't support multi-out vst instruments either. I don't understand why that is because their modulator routing is arguably best in class, and is the reason I have it. If only Cubase had modulator routing like Bitwig. It'd be the perfect DAW. Well, almost perfect due to the inspiration-killing audio drop outs when adding plugins. After working in Bitwig extensively I find the audio drop outs in Cubase to be unacceptable at this point. That said, imo Cubase is perhaps the most well rounded and feature rich DAW available (a true workhorse), and Bitwig is, for me anyway, the most inspiring and creative DAW around. C'mon Steinberg - let me modulate anything by everything already!

@@vkm.official happy to hear Atar,I never look for anything until I really need it but always sure Cubase will have it. Replaced LPX on my mac and is also doing as host for Ableton routed over Blackhole64ch. I don't use all channels but I like use like 8xStereo and do the mixing and tweaking in Cubase. Second thing is that Dom....Dom basically knows more about Cubase than Steinberg.

most of the high quality cubase videos out there have your name on it dude. You've always got great workarounds and thought processes on this stuff I really appreciate it. this one was particularly good and I think it's going to change a lot of my outcome. I come from tape back in the '60s, last century. so all through to the end of that century we had to do all this stuff manually. although the saturation and lack of tracks made it palatable. The stuff you talk about now wasn't even a dream back then. I really can't keep up with it all so I count on guys like you for a compass when I'm working on very projects where I just need that one little trick to get through to the end of this one if you know what I mean. thanks for another great video.

For everyone searching for an alternative way to do the same thing : fabfilter pro-mb might be the best option. In most DAWs you can't get multiple sidechain input to the same plug-in, so you're going to use one instance of pro-mb per sidechain inputs. I like to use these techniques on my instruments' bus (where there's most instruments, but NOT the bass). One first instance of pro-mb will be triggered by the vocals to attenuate competing frequencies. A second one is triggered by the bass to make space for it in the low mids. Exactly as in this video ! As this process can become addictive, these are several things you need to be aware of : - attack/release times have to fit the music. Learn how to listen to these parameters, you can f*ck the whole groove of the song just trying to get clarity. - pro-mb should work with oversampling and accurate phase modes in order to avoid aliasing or phase shifts/ringing stuff. This is more advanced but keepi in mind you're doing frequency-specific compression on a whole bus of instruments. For recent mixes I went even deeper (modern 808-rap) : - pro-mb on the 808's lows (

Thanks for the comment! Trackspacer is amazing for this sort of thing but you have to add multiple instances of it. I would favour Pro-Q3 instead of MB if you don’t have Cubase. You can pinpoint the frequencies that you want much better - MB is a multi and compressor which will have a broader impact on your material :)

Yes, in bitwig studio, there are ways to accomplish this using the audio sidechain modulator. You can have as many as your would like. One way you can do this: use them mid-side split device, put an EQ+ device in the mid chain, add as many audio sidechain modulators as you need, set the frequency ranges for the sidechain modulators, then use the modulators to each dynamically duck a frequency range on the EQ+ device. It sounds complicated, but it's not bad, and you can customize it to your heart's content. You can probably do it in the grid (the built-in modular synth and FX construction set) also. Thanks for the video! You could also maybe use a few TDR Nova devices (a free plugin).
