'Get few hours of sleep and advance, advance, advance' - how Ukrainians liberated Izium

The city of Izyium in the south of Kharkiv region was occupied by Russian troops for almost half a year. After number of assualts, artillery barrages, air strikes and bombings, it was fully occupied by Russian forces and their allies at the end of March.
It was then that Izium suffered the most, local authorities estimate that 80 percent of the settlement was destroyed and that up to a thousand residents could have died during the heavy shelling of Izium.
Somewhat less than 50,000 people lived in the town before the full-scale invasion Russian. Duirng occupation, approximately 10,000 people remained.
Ukrainian troops liberated Izium on the morning of September 10th. Most of the Russians managed to escape to avoid being surrounded. They left a lot of military hradware.
Not everyone of the occupants fled. Journaklists of hromadske were the first among others to get into the liberated city. Three days after liberation, people here are still shocked that they are finally free.

I feel very emotional listening to the lovely teacher being interviewed. I pray this nightmare foisted upon the people of Ukraine ends with a victory for them and soon. Pure madness, greed and evil from one man and his entourage. It will take many generations of Russians to cleanse themselves of this grevious sin. @@user-ny1lc1hq1v I have some military in my family. I don't want to discuss much more than that on that subject. We here in Detroit have a huge polish and Ukrainian communities. I also have friends who are there right now fighting along side of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. So we are trying to get as much supplies as possible. Both military and food and clothing for the displaced people.. keep up the fight against the Bolsheviks. Life liberty and democracy = FREEDOM. THANK YOU ALL.
