Good video very enlightening, I’m just 78, and still riding, actually I only took it up at 72 when I moved inland away from the sea, I was into sail boat racing before. The biking I love and was wondering about fitness, I do a bit of cycling and stretching but not a lot else, I like to ride my bikes as much as possible, like yesterday about 200k for the first 100,000kms service on the 300. Your video has given me some extra ideas, my arms have definitely lost a lot from my sailing days. In a few months a group of us are doing a 21 day tour from Thailand thru Laos, down to the bottom of Vietnam then back up through Cambodia to Thailand.

That is so bloody awesome! Too many get to an age and think they can no longer do cool things, just keep moving, look after your body and have fun doing what you want, I love this story thanks for sharing!

Hi Mal! Just discovered your channel and it's really good. I ride an KTM1190r and a crf450l and pretty much have been doing exactly what you do training wise. Been on an ebike for 5 years and makes riding so much more fun. Walk the dog 4 kms everyday and it's definitely made a difference to my fitness. Biggest thing I reckon is not smoking and drinking to be able to keep riding. Cheers Rohan.

Think you don't have time for this? My work life balance means for 7 days I get just enough time to work, eat and sleep. then 7 days when I get time to exercise for 45 mins every second day. So just 4 times a fortnight, I live in the country so no gyms close, I use 2x6kg dumbbells on a short routine, so stuff all really but I am impressed with the results. Years ago I used to swim with an old school gym trainer. He advised me not to use heavy weights as I needed aerobic fitness for motorcycling. His advise was to pick a weight which allowed you to do 3x20 reps where you really only feel the burn for the last few reps of the last set. Hence lightweight 6kg dumbbells work fine. Much like a discussion on what the best oil is, this works for me and I feel great. Great video on an often overlooked topic! Everyone wants to increase the horsepower of their bike but overlooks upgrading themselves!

Thanks mate yeah so important to find time! I was showing a student the other day to do just simple squats with no weights, do it every day and you will see a difference. Many ways to skin a cat, it's awesome when I hear from others that take time to look after themselves. Well done. Thanks for the comment

I’m 59 I go to gym twice a week and run sprints 9mph one minute alternate to 4mph for 30 min then 1 hr of heavy weights. Doctors try to scare on heart rates. I let it rip up to 180 without worry. Great video. Old guys rule. 😂

Love the Tenacity and your being open and accepting of making mistakes! Love it! Thanks for sharing the outtakes Mal. Soooo many people are afraid to make mistakes or be seem screwing up. And you know what…I feel like to 1. Get bike fit or 2. Become a confident and competent rider…you must allow yourself to screw up and to forgive yourself when you do. PS…talking to you over the phone is like watching your outtakes. Just quietly.

Haha cheers mate the funny thing is I'm in the shed alone talking out loud, to myself. My riding vids are always 1 shot wonders, but 38 takes to get a 30 sec clip! Useless!

Good job Mal. Like your delivery. 62 here, and love adventure touring on my DR650. General fitness and ride fitness go hand in hand. As for protein in beer, I would suggest asking google. I asked google about rum, and their is more calories in a packet of Smith's chips than a whole bottle of Bundy. True! Catch up one day. Tks mate.

When I'm on a trip, one decent meal a week is all that I need. Hydration, especially in the Northern half of our country, is very important. I tend to avoid riding with those whose trips revolve around a "few beers" at every pub. And it is good manners to have a drink at outback pubs, even if it is ice water.

Thanks for sharing your routine, I do the similar stuff, motivation is my main issue, it never used to be, but as you get older it becomes a necessity to work on your strength and fitness. Riding trails is more demanding than you'd think.

Good honest advice Mr OMS! I won’t assume familiarity in calling you by name, I’m old school (64yo :) I like your content, delivery and appreciate the time it takes to edit and produce. Watched your Cape York (Pajinka) series which inspired me to do the same from Melbourne (solo on my KTM 790Adv in mid 2022) 11 days later, I too stood at the Tip. Followed by an anticlockwise lap back to Melbourne… Bike fit and Head fit after 55 days on the road. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation to ‘ride more’. Best.

Haha thanks mate all the out-takes could easily have been dumped but when I went thru them, I just had to share! 38 attempts at a 30 sec clip. I'm so glad you enjoyed laughing at me and my uselessness! So from now on when you see my vids you can understand the pain I go thru! I love doing these vids and entertaining people! Spread the word! Next week I'm doing a collaboration with my mate at Inhardinated youtube channel, give Mike a watch, my humour is nothing in comparison!

Gday Jamie, cheers mate stoked you liked it, yeah the bloopers made me laugh watching em over! I use Movavi for edits, little trick, download the free version, when it expires remove the software, they then offer you the full version discounted! I put a friend onto it, I think she bought it for 40 bucks, good software. Music is Tunetank.com free music if you subscribe to their channel. Thanks again!
