In math 1:1 means 100% which means you are betting on a sure things so you don't win or lose money. Not everyone is a gambling addict.

@@JesterSeven-ww8nc no, it means the two sides of the ratio are the same. one side is the amount you put in, the other side is your payment. the odds have nothing to do with it being a “sure thing.” it’s a payment ratio, not the chances of winning. i’ve never gambled in my life and i understand this. you don’t need to be a “gambling addict” to get it. i mean, come on, just from a gameplay perspective, it would make no sense for them to offer you an option where the BEST RESULT is that you don’t lose anything.

@@fnord3125 Two sides of the ratio being the same literally means its a sure thing, like im sorry you know more about gambling than math but most people know NOTHING about gambling and have a basic understanding of math. Its not that the BEST RESULT is that you don't lose anything in 1:1 odds, it would also the WORST RESULT. Thats why everyone was trying to clown on him.

@@JesterSeven-ww8nc you are very confused about what ratios mean. a 1:1 ratio is not a “sure thing.” it means both sides of the ratio are the same. imagine red and blue balls in a bag. if the ratio of red to blue is 1:1 it means there are the same number of each. if the sides of the ratio here represented “successful outcomes” and “unsuccessful outcomes” (which, again, they do NOT; it is a ratio for payment not chances of success) 1:1 would be a 50% chance of success. 1:0 would be a “sure thing.” but, again, the ratio here is not about chances of success, so this is not really relevant. hope this helps! please try not to talk so confidently about things you don’t understand in the future. it makes you look very silly.

Quibble race is really neat conceptually and really short on ideas. Sometimes its too bad there are 50 games instead of a few less games and fleshing out the better ones a little bit more. I think a longer lifetime for each run to allow more progression across the run and a little more investment / character in the individual quibbles and your ability to interact with them would go a long way so the arch of the game is learning about each racer and how to evaluate them compared to one another while investing in some of your own quibbles etc. There is an element of deduction with the limited info eg "second fastest in the race" which doesn't get used enough because you only see each quibble so briefly and there isn't enough time to establish a dataset and then leverage it much across the run. Was that a fun little taste of quibble race? Absolutely. Will it ever be played again? I can't see why it would and I think that's too bad. Did UFO50 really need so many (IMO mediocre) 2D platformers? Its just too bad some of these games got to approximately their minimum marketable product (I'd argue a decent chunk of the games fall short of this) and then moved onwards. I think an expansion that maybe does a mix of addressing some of the weaker games and building on the successful ones could be interesting. Maybe just build on the ones that work.

Quibble Race is already the third iteration on the formula, if there is an obvious idea for how to expand or improve it, I think Derek has already considered and dismissed it as antithetical to the player experience "Simple" and "Short" aren't bad qualities for a game, and making a game simpler or shorter is often a way to fix problems inherent to its design

@@poobslag I agree simple and short are great qualities for these games to strive for. I think Quibble race does not meet its goal, being far too short and random to leverage the ideas it has in it AND I think it is both shorter and better than many games which are longer and much worse and I wish as a result, quibble race was a little longer and with that, a little better. In its current iteration it is just a few steps removed from rolling a die and saying "I think this will come up 4 or greater" 6 times in a row and then counting how many times you doubled your money.
