Hey Mark, nice edit! Bloody sand hey? I reckon you will be back for more sometime soon. It is a masochistic experience, but eventually you learn to love it. Catch ya in Bendigo for a ride in the near future 👍👍🏍💯😎

Great that you're so honest Mark. Your experience on this ride is what so many of us go through and seeing you go through it gives us an opportunity to think through our own way of tackling it: more suitable bike? different technique/better skills/better adjusted bike? when is it wise to throw in the towel? Re. question 3, I would say you made the right decision on this ride. Thanks for an entertaining and instructive video.

Hey Mark, I feel for ya. Hate taking my f800gs in sand. It's do-able but I prefer a smaller bike for that.

Mark in Sand use the throttle and jelly arms seems your stiffening your arms to much, use the throttle to get the bike up out of the sand, if in doubt throttle out. Best advice can give you about the sand, cheers Mark.

Yep. Easy to be an armchair expert. But I can identify with your sand riding “this isn’t fun”. And if it’s not fun it’s not worth doing.

Just ignore all these comments about tyre pressures & altering suspension geometry, Mark. Momentum is key & that’s best solved with a nitrous oxide kit 😊😊😊
@munter10
@munter10 11 ай бұрын
Mark your lack of riding fitness is due to the fact that you smoke ciggies and it shortens your oxygen intake, give up the smokes and you’ll be amazed at the difference in fitness! Also, why would you even want to ride sand like that?? It just absolutely wrecks motorcycles, chains and sprockets, wheel bearings, suspension linkage bearings etc etc. So yeah, just a little constructive advice on how to make trail riding more fun!

I feel for you Mark. Sand is one of the hardest to overcome. Especially if the bike is not setup for it. There is a better way. Find a SMALL sand loop somewhere close to where you live. Cut a loop, a small loop in standard setting. When you have had enough of being pounded to death and about to give up.. stop take breath and adjust your bike with these settings. Let your sir pressure down to the lowest it will go without getting a flat. Next info your triple clamps and slide the fork tubes down until they are flush with the top surface. You will notice that the rear sag will feel different. That's normal. Make sure all bolts are tight. Now go straight out and cut more laps but this time look far forward and stay on the gas so the nine drives. If I'm correct I am guessing you will have a lot more fun than you did before. It's all about drive and geometry also if you have a damper crank it up to the max. Use your foot pegs to steer.. I know you may have probably heard it all before but it will work in favour if your riding style . Yor bike is pounding you because it's steer too fast for your technique. Start small and learn to be aggressive.. IT WILL WORK.. PROMISE

Sand sucks no matter how you do it, no fun in it unless you have a full paddle tire. Good try but i would also avoid it like the plague.

Sometimes it’s best to just turn around when you’re knackered (like I did at the last ORR day 2!). Personally I wouldn’t go near that shit unless I have a lightweight bike, and I spent most of my early riding life in Saudi Arabia buggering around in the dunes. So good on ya mate 👍

they all on lighter bikes, that would make a huge difference for sand riding im guessing. im not bike fit but that's why i got back into riding, challenge my fitness. be a struggle but it would also be a great work out. who needs a gym.. just take a DR650 in the sand lol..

Ok everyone lets ask the big question.. why cant i ride sand. You dont enjoy it because you cant do it.. why cant you do it.. its either the bike or the rider.. thats all. You have already been defeated because of mental attitude. Right or wrong if you are all ready to fail you will. Watch the video and you will see. Mark struggles from the beginning. Mind had already made up its mind for the outcome.. I totally derstand mark's thoughts. I was the same.. totaly against sand because i couldn't ride it.. so i started listening to some experts about the bike and the technique now i can ride sand...maybe not the fastest but at least i can enjoy doing it.. We can all just say fuck it until one day youll say fuck it about riding... Mark maybe we can do a test day in some sand to help each other thru the worst parts of riding sand..

Yeah, you can talk about technique and bike set up until the cows come home but at the end of the day if it’s not your thing and you’re not enjoying yourself, what’s the point? I’m with you Mark, sand just isn’t my thing either. I would’ve turned around too. Life’s too short to spend your time off doing crap you don’t enjoy. Spend the time on tracks you can enjoy. That’s why we ride.

Well that looks like fun Mark. Great effort. You definitely need a liter bike for this stuff KTM 350 would suit you well I think, very lite and not too overpowered for you. Any way thanks again for the fun video.

It’s a lot easier riding on wet sand than it is on dry but I learnt so many sand skills in the wet and then just added more throttle in the dry, above all balance and momentum are key, when I’m riding at pace in a wheel track and there’s a right hand corner I’ll lay the bike over to the right and let the tyre’s grip on the left hand side of the rut ( using it like a berm ) plus a health fist of throttle that’ll put a smile on your dial, wet clay is far harder to ride than dry sand and dry sand is far more forgiving on the body than hard pack if you come off. Keep riding the sand brother you’ll get better at it
