Get More Out Of The A-10A

What I really like about the DCS A-10A is that it brings all the fun of down low close air support with massive firepower without the complexity of the A-10c module. Learning a complex module can be fun but being competent in the A model after a weekend of practice is kinda nice too. The "A model doesn't require the massive commitment of time to learn to use properly. In just a few hours you can be hitting hard with the big boyz.

I know its chic in the DCS social media sphere to trash talk FC3 planes, but I have to say the A-10A is pretty cool. You get all the BRRRRRT of the "C2" without the steep learning curve. It's also the A-10 of all the '90s conflicts from Desert Storm through Allied Force. Pilots flew the A-model in the same airspace where a F-117 was shot down without a t-pod or datalink. They were using binoculars🤣. Not a single A-10 was shot down over Kosovo (though more than one took some hits from ground fire). Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Agreed. So pleased that there's a clickable cockpit mod for it now! I fly the C every once in a while but it always leaves me with a headache from staring at MFDs and trying to remember my long presses from my short ones. This is a much more satisfying flying experience.

I got pretty good with the A10-A then got cocky and got the A10II-C and whoa Nellie...not even in the same zip code. It is by far the most complicated, most in-depth module for DCS. Forget everything you know about the -A because none of it will transfer over. It will require your full attention and also forget flying anything else. Because you HAVE to have muscle memory to keep track of even the simplest of task. Don't misunderstand me, it's a brilliant module, I can't believe it only cost $80. But she is a demanding mistriss and a harsh taskmaster. Get used to the words "coolie" and "boat" and the words "long and short". "Study level sim" is an understatement. But the level of realism, attention to detail, the satisfaction of mastering one aspect of its abilities is off the chart

Yeah that would be nice. But ED seems to be content with leaving every single aircraft in early access except the A10CII. They keep releasing more early access aircraft and just leaving the others collecting dust.

It is too bad. I think that it's mostly because it's and FC-3 aircraft which makes it unpopular with a lot of players. I have to admit that I don't fly it that much any more because I enjoy the fully clickable cockpits of the "full" modules. I wish there was a full module of hte A-10a available though, as I enjoy it a lot more than the C model.

I’ve gotten to the point I can fire all 6 Mavs in one run lol. Trick is to start rifling at around 10 miles and be finished before 6 so you can break off early, come back around for rockets, break off again and come back for guns. I think the most I’ve managed in a single sortie was 8 kills using that method. Mavericks can be pretty unreliable even at optimal ranges so I usually manage 3-4 out of 6 with those. 2 with rockets, and however many I can get with guns before being taken out by the ridiculous Russian SPAA. But that’s just because in multiplayer servers I don’t really care about surviving. Just taking out as much as I can before respawning to do it again. A major drawback of the game, no real punishment for dying.

Nice work. I agree with the comments both about the fact that SPAA is a bit "overpowered" in the game and the fact that the MP servers do tend to "game it down" for the most part. But there's no "right" way to play the game - so more power to them if that's what players want.

Do the fc3 modules have the same visual quality as the full fidelity versions other than not having a clickable cockpit?

I would say "more or less". The differences are not obvious to me, but the FC3 cockpits were done a LONG time ago compared to newer aircraft and it would not surprise that if you put them side by side, the FC3 cockpits would come of the worse for the comparison.

I'm unable to get CCRP working. Is the Target Designator Lock the 'Enter' key on the keyboard ? Also is there an indicator to check I'm in CCRP mode ? I think I am as I pressed the 'O' key.

I think it just doesn’t work. I did a tutorial mission for CCRP and it just did not work. I could not move the IP with TDC slew commands, and O didn’t change it to CCRP mode.

Love learning from your video's Iain. Your patience and attention to detail and the bits of info on the planes is a joy to listen to, as is your voice. So I was wondering.. does a clickable cockpit mod for the FC3 modules like the A-10A make them close to something you can expect from a high fidelity module? (I read somewhere that for instance, the flight model of the A-10A is on par.) So far my experience is with the A-4E 2.1 and the Spitfire. Not sure where on the scale those fit. Regardless, this video and the replies made me go for FC3 pack in discount. Also, your tutorials surpass all those that stick to reading the labels of the buttons aloud at a high tempo. Keep up the good work :).

Thanks so much for the feedback! I appreciate the kind words. As far as the clickable cockpit mod for FC3 goes, I think it is an improvement but it doesn't bring the A10a up to the level of a full hi fidelity module. I still love the Original Hawg though. Way more than worth the money.

First: upgrading my Thrustmaster TWCS throttle with some bearings after I get a 3d printed part next weekend. Right now it sticks like mad because vaseline didn't turn out to be the best option for the metal/plastic combination the throttle has out of the box.

i deleted this file thinking I could clean it up with a new install.. But I can't get the A-10A now.. Any ideal on how I can do that? My game shows I have a new load by options at top, but can't see it to install or load in game.. no see an A-10A there at all in the list

No need for a video. It just makes the things you would normally keybind able to be clicked instead. Things still don’t really move when you click them, it’s just clicking something instead of pressing a key.
