My Grandma told my Uncle Mike she didn’t want him to go out every Saturday night with the Italian barber from Canonsburg Pa. Theyd go to the clubs, dance and the young barber would sing. uncle Mike had to get up early and work on the farm. Wonder what ever happened to that young barber, Perry Como

Well for one thing he ended up living 30 minutes from my hometown. In Saluda, North Carolina he had a home, my aunt & family loved him, and she saw him in the little country diner on Main Street there and sweetly, discreetly asked him if he was him 😂❤ Thank you for sharing this story, I wish my dear Aunt was still alive to read this!

Maybe it's stupid of me to write this, but this music somehow has something of peace and serenity about it. So much time hasn't passed yet and look at this digital, cold, crazy world today.....And I think of my grandpa who was born in 1905, he would be in for a shock if he were brought back to this time. Who knows what will happen in the next 100 years.... Everything will probably be gone, EVERYTHING, so I'm not worried about humans managing that :(

I was born in Jan. 1947 and remember music from the mid-to-late 30s and early 40s. By the age of 5 I was listening to jazz and classical music. This music brings back so many memories of my maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather who played the piano and maternal great aunt. Reminds me of the music played with some of the early Fred Astaire & Ginger Roger's movies, the Little Rascals, the swing and big band sounds from the 30s. Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington & Benny Goodman, Cab Calloway, Charlie Parker - so many memories.

I feel sometimes like I was born in the wrong era. If I had a time machine, I'd love to go back in time to the 1920s-1930s. It was such a revolutionary time. The liberation of women, the flapper girls, the amazing art deco style buildings and decor, the silent movies, the gramophones, the cars, the airplanes, the fashion and glamour, it must have been so incredibly exciting. Unfortunately, the great depression came soon after. But that's how life is, a roller coaster full of ups and downs. We got the wonderful music to enjoy and dream. I just came across Vintage Highway and I have a smile on my face. Though my teens were in the 60's and my heart is still in good ol' rock n roll. I love this era of music, the simpler times, as they say, when dancing and romancing, good friendships. My lovely mother in law loved the fun of big band music. Dancing was life back then. The opposite of what is today. Thank you for treating us to this music! 💓🕺💃

@@VintageHighway I don’t know lol. I’m not that old . It was the era of my grandparents actually. I’m in my 50s. It’s almost as if I become aware that it’s a time long gone into antiquity and it’s very poignant. The war music of 40s glen miller has the same effect on me. Idk Maybe I’m just strange lol.

It would be good to see the dates of these recordings and some history of the artists. But the music itself holds up quite well for what must have been recorded 70 to 90 years ago. Enjoyed it.

Two pictures of the 20s and 30s: First the gay (happy) times of people who could afford to amuse themselves, and wanted to forget WW1, and then unemployment, poverty and the 'looming' Nazis and Communists in the background. Anyway, the music is very stylish and makes for a happy experience and oblivion for the moment of dark reality ... just what we need today ... a little happiness makes the world go around ...

I like this music! It is not all from the 20s and 30s. Perry Como didn't even start recording until the 40s. People make this mistake a lot. The Big Band era stretched from roughly 1935-1945 and people often lump the 40s music in to the 1920s and 30s era. Either way--it's great!
