When the grandmother that was in the young black woman, was looking at her reflection in the window, she wasn’t looking at her scar, the grandmother who was controlling her body, was admiring the young black woman’s youthfulness, and beauty, which she missed, because she was old. The whole “black don’t crack” kind of notion..

This movie had so many hidden gems that make the whole story fit together. Rose getting upset with cops appearing like she’s standing up for him but instead there’s no paper trail of chris being in the area The dad saying my mom loved her kitchen so we always keep a piece of her here and then they walk in and the girl is in there The groundskeeper running cause the grandpa was a track star but never could beat Jesse Owens

How 'bout the fact that he "picked cotton" from the chair in order to save his life? I actually experienced a very similar party scene. Three different generations of white women (same bloodline) approached me, at separate times, to tell me their "time I encountered a black person" story. My husband is white. Nobody said these stories in front of him.

The song in beginning credits is an African song entitled, "Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga," which translates to, "Run brother! (Listen to your Ancestors.) Something bad is coming!" Which is to signify his African ancestors who are warning him of the hell he is walking himself into. Makes it even more horrifying and chilling. Loved this reaction!!🌄😇

@Negro Spiritual also she wasn't sticking up for him. It does sometimes gets tidius being a culture teacher, or a teacher explaining personal space to people in general. Don't touch my hair. Don't tell me how surprised you are of how well I speak, don't assume what you hear about us applies to the whole diaspora of our race and culture(s). Don't expect me to be the all seeing eye of black wisdom and know why some black people do this or that. That's like asking a 60 yr old white couple from Oaklahoma why did the English try to murder and destroy the Irish. Yes, the people you're asking is white, like both the British and Irish, but why would they know why or even about it, when it's a whole different two countries with different cultures and ideals and history. Yet, I'm supposed to know everything and educate you on why this and that part of the diaspora of brown skinned people around the world do what they do.

They literally had a slave auction. * Before people jump on me for saying this, these are the director’s thoughts on his the purpose of crafting this scenario of race relations in the context of a suspense /thriller.

As a Black man in America, I LOVED watching your reactions. Of course, the reaction of Black people is a bit different. For one thing, all of the things that amazed you and creeped you out, are everyday, common occurrences to us. For most of the film, I was baffled by the thoroughness and accuracy of the creepy events, as I am one of those people who still thinks that it is POSSIBLE that our issues could all be just a matter of misunderstanding and lack of sensitivity to some of their actions and remarks. But there is a significant portion of the black population that believes to the depths of our souls that this film is a docudrama, and that White America is just aching for an ethnic genocide. You two young men though, have shown me that there is indeed hope that when we oldsters finally die the country will continue to inch forward and not stumble backward. BLM is not the problem, but AARP is.

This was Jordan Peele's first movie; y'all should watch his second movie "Us" , its also a scary movie and its good. I heard that for the main character he got the role because Jordan Peele had him do the scene for the audition where he's being hypnotized; I heard that he was able make tears come out of his eyes on the spot 4 times in a row; and , thats when Jordan Peele told him right there that he got the role.

I was shocked to learn that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) is British. A couple of things I missed the first time - the reason she didn't want the cop to see Chris' driving licence is that she didn't want to leave a paper trail of him. She eats the cereal separately because one is coloured and the other is white. The reason the son tried to fight Chris at the dinner table was to assess his strength and see if could get out of a headlock, which he tries on him at the front door. There is an alternative ending where the cop who pulls up at the end is the one you expect from the deer accident and Chris does go to jail.
@JasonZakrajsek
@JasonZakrajsek 3 жыл бұрын
The "not wanting to mix cereal" thing doesn't have to do with anything racial, Jordan Peele just wanted her to be eating it in a weird way. The whole point of what the family is doing is putting their white minds into colored bodies. They're not trying to keep them separate.

I just randomly had a thought about the deer they hit. The deer as a black person metaphor, they were just going about their business on the road (white person driving with no intention, black person in the car with no control but aiding) and the deer was devastated, destroyed along their way. Long story short, Jordan Peele is dope.

I've seen Get Out several times and it's an outstanding movie. When one of the twins stated "How do you live a normal life after this experience" I never thought about that . How would he be able to trust another person again? Chris would have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life. One of the people that went through the transplant procedure could possible come after him. He can't get psycho-therapy because if tells this story, he would be committed to a mental institution.

Sad thing about is Andre Hayworth ( the dude that snapped from Chris's camera flash) is still in the trance. There's no GETTING OUT for him. Chris cant help him, doesn't even know where Andre is. The maid & yard keepers are dead, only way they could be free of this. But poor Andre will be in the Sunken Place til he dies. "Us " was ok but Get Out is still Jordan Peele's best so far imo. You guys are awesome 👍🏽🔥

I'm hoping something else will snap him out of it. Missy is dead so she can't reinforce it, but I wonder if they had some sort of backup if Missy was not available. It seemed like a big operation, so they could possibly have others involved that are not just 'buyers'.

there's so much symbolism and details you notice upon multiple viewings of this film. like the girlfriend eating her 'colored' cereal separate from her 'white' milk when she's in her bedroom at the end of the movie. or chris essentially having to "pick cotton" from the chair to save his life when he's trapped in the basement. or the quick line at the beginning about grandpa being bitter he lost an olympic race to a black man when he was younger...so we see him constantly running and trying to show how fast/strong he is throughout the movie now that he's in a black man's body. jordan peele is a genius.

The suburbs can definitely be kinda creepy. Especially at night because it so quiet and nobody’s outside. Exactly like in the movie. Im a woman and I would feel way more comfortable walking around a busy city at night than a suburban neighborhood. because what happened in the movie can easily happen to you and it’s so unexpected because the environment seems so safe, that’s what’s scary.

I'm guessing that Rose had a little of her mother's talent and picked the ones, for the trip home, based on how susceptible they were to hypnotism. It would be disappointing to the family if Missy told the person to go to the Sunken Place, and they were like, "Nah, I'm good. Thanks." 😏

Love the reaction. This movie is a big love letter. I love that cotton (what kept people enslaved amongst other product) also freed him. The irony was fun. Jordan Peele (who is married to a white woman and half white himself) did excellent. His wife also gets how ridiculous it is to murder based on skin tone. I’ve gotten told the Obama thing 3 times every time it makes me cringe. People like his wife and yourselves are what’s needed. Humans are humans. Always. The fear when cops pull behind you is definitely real. This movie is perfect because it puts you in the mind of Black people sometimes when they’re uncomfortable and don’t know how it’s going to go just based on sight and knowing they’re not allowed to defend themselves. The cereal thing is to keep the “colors” separated from the white milk.

Agree 💯about the hypnosis thing. In fact, as part of my psych minor in college, we did a hypnosis session. Everyone in the practicum went under, at least a little bit. Except me. I didn’t go under AT ALL. It simply didn’t work on me. The hypnotist said I have trust and control issues. I said “Really? Even though I’m not the one that goes around putting people in vulnerable and suggestive states in order to poke around in their brain and control their thoughts while I have all the power?” I got a C in that practicum. 😂

This is a good one to watch again to catch all the subtleties once you know the ending- the one for me is at the beginning with the cop and she acts like she's sticking up for Chris by challenging the cop and refusing to show his ID- in reality, she doesn't want the cop to see Chris's ID because she knows he's going to go 'missing' and doesn't want that link to the traffic stop. There is a thing called hypnotherapy in psychology (which doesn't work on everyone btw). It is done sometimes to help people deal with certain conditions, trauma and addictions. Here, they needed a reason to use it on him and they got one when they came to know that Chris smokes. The hypnotherapy served two purposes here. One, they got him to quit smoking to prevent him spoiling his body further so that they could use him as a vessel for the transplant. Two, they also placed him in a sunken place so that he can't do the thinking. Only those functions (like the eye for photography) that are necessary for their client could be used.
