Great stuff, as usual. We tend to make things more difficult than necessary. I once saw an interview with Walter Trout, and he said this is how he solos: no scales, no patterns, just seeing the chords and playing in and around them.

C7/F7/G7 at open position and 12th fret; A7/D7/E7, 3rd fret; G7/C7/D7, 5th fret; E7/A7/B7, 8th fret; D7/G7/A7, 10th fret … now CAGED is missing B and F because B7 = C7 (down 1 fret) and F7 = E7 (up 1 fret). That’s how to play the 3 chords in each of the 5 positions. - Now for each of those Dominant 7 “shapes”, you must be able to play Mixolydian + b3/b5 from the Blues scale. The most important notes are 3/b7; they will most define those Dominant 7 chords.
