In the free tier, does a code completion count only when your press tab, as part of the 2000 free code completions? Or just the ghost text appearing count as one code completion?

Yes, ghost text is completion but you can disable it as described early in the video.

There are o1 and o3-mini available for me. Also Gemini Flash 2.0. Maybe you need to add "preview" models in Github account settings.
