Very nice job, guitar and music! That new pickguard improves the looks of the guitar immensely.

For being their lest expensive guitar it seems to be performing well above it's price, and really isn't a bad looking instrument. With a initial setup this would be good for a novice musician. Thanks for the demo and upgrade info.

I've seen other reviews out there that the Q/C is a bit off. I'm glad that the one that you have is a good one. I also went forward and I contacted this Chinese company, and I won't say what we discussed. But I really wanted you to know, it was one of the WORST customer service experiences that I've seen in years! I truly think a lot of the hype regarding this brand of guitar is out is because they send A LOT of guitars to KZbin channels that have many multiple thousands of subscribers. I really have NO problem with Chinese made guitars and there is many companies and brands to choose from... But this one company, I will never buy a guitar from them after the way I was treated when I contacted them. Thanks for reading my post.

Thank you for saving me money on this guitar. Fret issue can happen with any guitar. My issue would be the non standard switch position that would eliminate an obsidian switch upgrade in the future and having to get the pick guard custom made is the second issue i do not want to deal with

I agree and even think EARTs are extrodinary. I've had Ricks, Strats, and Gibs and my favorite neck was the Gib SG. I remember playing one in a store that listed for 3k and man, it played like butter. This EART EG LP-511 I got for $400 plays just as nice as that SG. As Matt said, it's almost too slick but I'll gladly get used to that. Out of the box the only thing I did was flatten the neck which caused me to lower the humbucker a tad, but that's it. I'm so happy, I spent 20 years looking for something like this. It's a steal. (a stainless steel)

@@TheTapeFarm thanks. You made me aware that if I purchase this I should be prepared to pay a luthier $300 - $500 of labor to fix issues, replace electronics and hardware etc. Appreciate the teardown video!👍 I stumbled into your video . I was not looking into buying anything but their headless model. Have you tried those ( w1 or w2)? They pointed me to Ury Velazquez Chanel for good reviews on it. Now I'm not so sure

So you get mostly a good guitar for low-cost money like many other guitars that become a mod platform and if you're fixed all the things you end up with a good guitar like many of us have done. The body finish is quite unusual. It kind of looks like textured Stone. Nice job

I just bought the same guitar in sunburst a month ago. Im diggin the guitar for what it is but im not diggin the mint green pick guard. I dont know much about guitars so im not sure what pick guard I need to get. Is that a Fender pickguard you replaced the stock pickguard with?

Very informative video. Not only on the guitar but the technical aspects of working on one. I think you've given enough information to where any good do-it-yourselfer can customize their own guitar if they wanted to. If you were charging (or took it to somebody else to work on) for the work you had to do on this guitar, what would the total cost be to you
@0000song0000

11:00 that's the thing: it is no longer a $196 guitar, if you add the price of your work (and/or the cost of the tools) plus the price of the replacement pickups and pots. just the fret dressing and leveling stuff is something a beginner would not notice/understand... i honestly didnt start too notice those flaws until pointed to me after 15 years playing :P i just thought like "oh yeah, that guitar its awesome, but it buzzes at X, Y and Z fret" then i met mr.fret rocker (ok,card method) and have started levelling my own frets... bye bye buzz :D
@TheTapeFarm
@TheTapeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed… in part 1 I say unless you are able to fix what might need to be fixed, commit to bring the guitar to a tech to have it checked out. But yeah, beginner guitars I think discourage a lot beginners because like you said, they just don’t know what they don’t know. Good point.

Think I'm gonna get a couple of these. They'll need some up grades of course! Nothing in this price range comes without need for a few upgrades, frets mostly but sometimes the wiring needs a little help also. I always switch the magnet strips out for alnico magnets and rewax the pickups, thats a must I'd say. They advertise that they come with bone nuts so that won't have to be swapped out. Brass is my go-to, yes, I Know it's old, old, school, but it gives you a little shine the plastic doesn't have. Bone is good also especially on the teles'. Eart has a new tele, that has the cut outs in the body, (like a strat) that I think would be kick-@ss for the beginner. Want to try that, and I don't have a 335 right now, so I think I'll get this eart k.o. and try it, also. I think the biggest feature isn't the frets that everyone raves about, but the satin finish. For beginners that's a huge plus, because how many of these guitars get dropped, multiple times usually. In my mind the satin seems to be much easier to repair, because you KNOW it's gonna happen. I have a couple of preteen "rock stars" at home, and I guarantee All the hair has been loved off of their practice guitars. lol

Just curious, before the Pick Up install how do you test that they are working?
@TheTapeFarm
@TheTapeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you are asking… how did I test to make sure the original pickups were working before I replaced them? I played the guitar. If you are asking how I tested the new pickups before I reassembled the guitar, I tap the poles with a screwdriver as I select each position on the switch.

Other than having to notch out for the truss rod... Did all the perimeter holes match up with the old pick guard?
@janene1111

I bought a pickguard from eBay that was already notched, but the volume knob didn’t line up so I left the mint green guard on (which I’m not a fan of).
@PhillipBlanton
@PhillipBlanton 3 жыл бұрын
Did you have any issues with the screw holes not lining up when you swapped the pickguard? Other youtubers have mentioned that the screw holes on the Eart pickguard were a little non-standard and so swapping the pickguard out with an 11-hole one that you may have on-hand would require plugging some of the old holes, and re-drilling a few new ones. There are however, pickguards you can pick up from ebay that are all pre-cut for your pickups and bridge and everything except the mounting screw holes, so that'd be an option, although many people are fearful of that kind of do-it-yourselfishness. If you already have a pickguard that you might like to use, I was wondering what your experience was with the holes lining up. I saw that your new pickguard was pre-drilled and I'm assuming you didn't have that issue since you didn't mention it. Does that mean that Eart has "fixed" it by standardizing their screw hole pattern with Fender? Just askin' for a friend. :-)

I prefer Strat pick ups to be all the same orientation - i.e. NO reverse wound. The overall tone is better. There's always someone doing things differently, maybe try it one day? Pete.

I used an “aged white” 3 ply. It’s just slightly off white. I used a router table to trim the notch out. But a Dremel type tool would have done it as well.

Or commit to taking it to a local shop and pay for any fixes that might be needed. But yeah, a $200 guitar, is a $200 guitar. And to be fair… I’ve seen worse issues on $500-$600 guitars as well.

Its great what you guys do,..the guitar review guys that inspect and dismantle every little part,....but really,..ive got the best very high end guitars to these IYV's and EARTs,...some need work,..some could sound better,...some scratchy pots and inputs,...been playin for 35 years,..ive never bothered with all this shit,....play the goddamn things,...its all up to your hands to pull from an instrument no matter how a guitars issues are,...your one of the best at this kind of thing ,.....but really tired of all this technique breakin down styles what ifs this was that.,shred guy clones,..whos faster..caged system,..circle of fiths garbage theory crap,....IT DONT MEAN SHIT!!!!!!.......write fuckin songs people,..music IS expression,.....most all of these people will get older to finally figure out all they can do is play fast scales and shred BS to the same old chord progressions that everyone and their 14year old sister can play these days.,.I know cause I was in that trap for years...........while others like Neil young/Tom petty/Eddie vetter/Chris Cornell who suck at guitar,..cant solo,.. some with a shitty voices,..hard to look at,...pretty lame tunes,....but they can inject their soul into their music with lyric and heartfelt simplicity & rule the world,.....you kids better wake up and stop spendin all your time trying to Malmsteen yourselves to death,......we got a Vai,..we got a gilbert,..a van halen,...Ray vaughn,...steve morse,..alex lifeson,.....Be YOU.
