What an eloquent way to express this concept. For years I’ve liked dressing in a quiet way. As far as quality I have a jean jacket from the Gap that is 25 years old and linen pants from Old Navy that are at least 6 years old. It’s about being thoughtful and buying clothes that stand the test of time.

If you think that Gap is luxury…
@brandinshaeffer89708 ай бұрын
I splurge at the END of the season on big ticket items like trench coats, sweaters, winter coats & boots. It's sad knowing that I've just purchased gorgeous things that i can't wear until next fall. But instead of paying $400-$800 I've spent $175-$225. I get my tees cheap at old navy, h&m, the gap, j crew, Macys. I take excellent care of them as if they were $100+ each. Belts are a one time purchase & last years so i suggest getting the best you can afford. I buy a lot of my blouses vintage or 2nd hand. J Crew has a pre owned section on their website that is AWESOME.
@solangelauthier238124 күн бұрын
The sales ? Horrible atmosphere + they do not have the size you need or the color you wanted. And some classic items (as an example the 101801 Max Mara coat) are NEVER discounted. Better buy less (who needs several trench coats ?) and buy what you need/want when it is available.

Fab as always Emma. These funny terms that pop up on social media make me roll my eyes!! There's never really anything new in fashion, my mum always said that when I was a teen & having reached middle age myself you see all the trends come and go and come back again 😀. I agree Emma, Im 50 and have never (not even in my teens), followed fashion, simply because I never want the same as everyone else. I have an excellent eye for quality and style generally. I have every colour under the sun because I can wear most colours, but black white and blue are my ultimate favourites.I do have lots of clothes, designer and regular. I don't bye any with a name plastered over it as I think it's tacky, and I don't shop at Zara!

You are so lucky to have known what you love from such a young age. For some people it takes them time to discover what they truly like, I am one of those people. I used to love experimenting with trends and colour in my 20’s but grew out of that as I went into my 30’s and now I know what I like after that trial and error. I don’t regret my experimental days though as they got me to this point, a point where I finally feel confident 😊

nope, my Japanese grandfather said never to use someone else's clothes, and never buy someone else's furniture. He was a Feng Shui practitioner and he said objects hold memories and energy. So, one must be mindful of the things we bring into one's home. When you bring an object that has been used by someone else, you are also bringing their energy into your house. He always told us, "don't buy 2nd hand, only buy new, and only what you can afford buying new."

Great video, and thank you for not hoping on board with the trending terminology! I've been wearing more understated pieces for years, so the luxury/ old money terms that have been trending have my teeth on edge, partly because of the elitist connotations and partly because I'm not trying to look like something I'm not! I would say my style is not too shouty because I'm more introverted, so while I love pops if red, I wont go all out red. In some ways, the terminology is ironic, as understated is always popular in times of economic and/ or political uncertainty - so the implication is that genuine old money people don't want to look overtly rich. Logos will come around again, just wait for the next economic up turn! I dont associate logos with new money btw, more with people who are more extrovert!

Tbh these terms completely went under my radar. I’m not on TikTok so only found out about this ‘quiet luxury’ term from followers. But I agree, now I know what’s going on I’m not keen on the way these terms are being packaged. Each to their own and all that but it’s not for me.

Emma, I’ve always found cotton/linen fabric to be extremely crease-able and it ends up looking like trash after you sit. Do you have this problem as well and tend to buy non-cotton fabrics when possible ?
@EmmaHill Жыл бұрын
With Linen I always experience this but I say to embrace the creases as that’s the nature of linen. It’s such a great relaxed summer fabric, it might not be ‘polished’ but I love the laid back vibe of a not-totally-perfect linen shirt 🙌🏼 The only other alternative is to never sit down 🙈
@theycallmelerch Жыл бұрын

@EmmaHill Жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but I think that vibe is currently being referred to as ‘old money’, although why there has to be such a focus on a persons wealth I have no idea 😒 ‘Quiet Luxury’, from what I understand is a different ‘look’ to ‘old money’ being more minimalist and aligned with brands like Celine and The Row, whereas ‘old money’ is aligned with brands like Ralph Lauren for that preppy look. But then again these are all just made up terms so they can be interpreted in different ways x

Most rich people worry about what people think. Most wealthy people don’t want you to know how much money they have and don’t care about impressing others. Very minimal and not flashy is preferable. Smelling clean, fresh and delicious is quite intriguing. Skin care and dental hygiene is a big part of the culture. Most wealthy people sleep on quality mattresses and invest in their bedroom and bath…not the latest trends. BEING HUMBLE IS WHAT IS MOST ATTRACTIVE TO SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE.🍀 Being preppy is what it was usually called but now….???
