If you wish to watch the original anime adaptation, you are basically safe to watch episodes 1 to 21 (aka the entirety of season 1 and early season 2) It covers all of the events seen in this season, two filler arcs and a clip show Warning tho, there are two different numbering systems to the anime series, where some of the episodes change order So the Martial Arts Figure Skating Arc is numbered either as episodes 19-21, or as Season 2, episodes 7 to 9 (with episodes 22-27 being listed as episodes 1-6 of season 2)

The og anime is available in the canon order in Tubi. You don't have to watch it there but at least you can base the correct order of the episodes on their list. You can watch up episode 21 which is just a recap episode.

Yeah, and now you see the dichotomy of why Ranma doesn't like any part of this, as his general disdain for the whole situation is also tinged with a certain amount of guilt. As much as he wants nothing to do with Shampoo and is truly offended by the bulk of her efforts to attain him (seriously, there are absolutely NO depths she won't lower herself to), there's a part of him that genuinely does feel sorry for her, because the Chinese Amazons are just two steps above a CULT, basically. While the series will occasionally nod in the direction that what Shampoo feels for him is something real, at the end of the day, she doesn't ACTUALLY comprehend what LOVE is. All she knows is the twisted definition of it that the tribe has been polluting her brain with for LITERALLY her entire life. Even Ranma, who has absolutely NO experience with, or understanding of women, thinks these Chinese Amazon laws are simply too damn caveman for anyone with a lick of common sense to be taking seriously, but it's how Shampoo was raised to believe the world works. Here's a girl who could get any other guy she wants, but instead, insists on hanging off of Ranma because she quite simply doesn't know any better. It's just a sad state of affairs for everyone involved.

The first season is pretty much exactly the same content as these 12 episodes with some padding and extra filler scene here and there. It would be a fun rewatch imo since it's a completely different artistic direction. The only two filler episode at this point are unrelated/skippable side stories. For the filler episodes beyond the first season, there will be maybe have some minor spoilers but I can recommand some if you want!

@TheGenreVerse I think that's the point of her character, representing that type of foreigner, especially from a closed off civilization. Someone who truly believes their ways, even though the majority outside think they are wrong. The show just puts in a more humorous light, but there are still people like Shampoo. If you know China, they take no for an answer. One of the Infamous things they've done, is claiming a part of the other countries seas as their own. They shoot water jets at even fishermen with their military boats. And blatantly stealing resources as well as trying to claim Hong Kong as part of their own country. Anyway, I can't say anymore without spoiling China, I mean Shampoo's whole character role. P. S. Sorry for the political rant, since my country, the Philippines, was one of China's targets and compared her to them. But the difference is that I actually liked Shampoo, she's one of my anime crushes during the 90's (Rama 1/2 appeared in the late 80's and the anime broadcast during the early 90's). She's one of the most cunning and cheeky female romantic rivals for Ranma, which I still loved. Especially now that modern animes are plagued with brained dead women who simp for the protagonists, their uniqueness died when they fell in love with them.

Personally I just felt like a child all over again while watching this season. Ranma 1/2 used to be my favorite show as a kid. I watched it every week on TV and I have many manga volumes of it (not all), but with time I have forgotten most of its plot and characters. It really sent me back in time.

110 and 119 are puns. 110 is the phone number for the police in Japan, while 119 is the one for the fire department and emergencies. I give credit to Dr. Tofu, if Kasumi hadn't addled his brain he would have reminded everybody that a special shiatsu - acupressure - technique had to go with the shampoo. And he knows it. Acupuncture is on his clinic's sign Genma has a long history of trying (and often failing) to take advantage of any situation and being a panda gives him the benefit of cuteness. (Plus it helps that people don't have to be annoyed by hearing what he has to say, since his panda can't speak) Ranma lacks social skills, thanks to the way Genma raised him - constantly yanking him away from any friends he could have had so they could continue their training journey. Having a girl's brain , though, may actually help him there If you look at anything outside of the first season anime and manga, it's going to be hard to avoid a reference to what happens between Ranma and Shampoo in the next season. I myself would recommend you do see the next season of the OG, then you can get reactions that are fresh. Stop at "The Breaking Point!? Ryoga's Great Revenge"

The OG anime has excellent, memorable OST, and that typical retro anime charm. However, if you do choose to watch it, please be warned that it's loaded with fillers that drop in quality considerably over time, and flanderizes most of the characters, most notably Ranma and Akane. The Ranma there is more arrogant and cocky, while Akane's tsun violence is played up to the max that sometimes make it hard to watch. As an Akane fan, it's really sad because it was like the anime made her unlikable on purpose while highlighting the other rivals. The manga chapters are also adapted very loosely and the difference from the manga is sometimes surprising, which contributes to the very strong opinions older fans have toward their characters in general 😅 It's still a good comedy to watch though but it might be better to remember that their characters there aren't exactly accurate so the experience may not be same as when you watched the remake. It's still much better to read the manga imo!

If where you are watching the original anime has the correct order, you should be able to watch up to ep 21 but if its in the release order then it would be up to ep 18 and ep 25 - 27 for the skating arc.

To be fair, both Ranma and Akane are idiots, but after all, the show keeps going because of it and due to both being very stubborn and proud, too. 😂 Ranma is very bad with words, he has no prudence and acts rude with Akane, but if you recap all the things that happened in this season he has done more for Akane than her towards him, this is just an example I am not saying that he loves more Akane than she loves him, is just that he is more of actions than words. I mean, he was ready to go to China all the way swimming just for her and not even thinking of removing his curse. Something interesting to me is that Shampoo gets more hate than Ryoga when both are very concerning people, I think that Ryoga only gets pity because he turns into a little pig, and people see him cute.

The old Ranma anime has a lot of filer episodes and filer scenes and I mean a lot because the manga was still being produced by the female artist plus they don't follow the manga order unlike the remake which has been more faithful. Same thing occurred with her first work Urusei Yatsura and its remake. I don't know how you will plan to go forth on this but you can either go with watching the entire thing or instead watch the canon episodes with a mixture of filer and canon together as it maybe awkward if you watch half an episode then hop to another episode and watch that first half or full episode. Anyways, as some have said below you're safe to watch old Ranma from Episode 1 to 15. Episode 16 "P-Chan Explodes! The Icy Fountain of Love" has a mixture of canon and filer. Episode 17 "Pelvic Fortune-Telling? Ranma is the No. One Bride in Japan" is a straight up filer episode and can be skipped unless you're interested in Dr. Tofu. Episode 18-19 Is when Shampoo is introduced. Episode 20 "I Love You, Ranma! Please Don't Say Goodbye" is where you can stop at for the old Ranma as it is the episode 12th episode of the remake. That episode also ends the last chapter of the second volume of the manga. Season two will start covering volume 3 of the manga. Episode 21 "I Am a Man! Ranma's Going Back to China!?" is one of those recap episodes with new animation but the animation is in the context of anime original about what has happened thus far recap type of story. You can decide to watch that or not as it's not the usual recap episode. Episode 22 "Clash of the Delivery Girls! The Martial Arts Takeout Race" is a complete filer episode unless you want to know a bit more about what type of father Ranma's father, Genma is (in the old anime not the manga or remake). Episode 23 "You Really Do Hate Cats!" DO NOT WATCH THIS EPISODE! It will be in Season 2 of the remake of Ranma. Hope this helps.

"Clash of the Delivery Girls" is nothing like the manga version and you need Shampoo for that one. It is another example of the OG anime adding legitimate lore to Ranma. If any attention is paid to Ranma outside of the early manga chapters and OG anime episodes, they are going to pick up clues on what happens between Ranma and Shampoo. I say they shouldn't risk the surprise being spoiled and just go ahead and watch the OG anime. Stop, though, at "The Breaking Point!? Ryoga's Great Revenge". Plus they get to see Sasuke

Better to keep the surprise fresh. The OG episodes keep pretty much to the original manga and are good in their own right. (Looking at the original series page over on Hulu, since that is the "most likely" place for you to view it. I can't vouch for any other source, since there seems to have been some sort of discrepancy in episode counts from different sources.): Events in reboot season 1 correspond to OG series S1 eps 1-16, 18-20. Episodes 17, 21, and 22 were "filler" episodes to pad out the schedule and not get ahead of the source material, which make them highly unlikely to be used in the reboot, but maybe steer clear just to be sure. Episode 23 contains definite spoilers for things that will be in Season 2 of this reboot series. Steer clear of OG Season 2 entirely at this point.

@@TheGenreVerse I don't have a crystal sphere of course, but for how things are going I highly doubt the new anime will adapt any completely filler old episode, I think you may watch them without fear. Otherwise you may miss stuff (old filler episodes were sometimes good, sometimes not so much)... And if by chance you end up watching one episode of the old show before watching the corresponding episode of the new show, is it really a problem? Old viewers do that regularly, and still enjoy the new show!

Regarding the original series, it's nowhere near as complex as you seem to make it. There's three different orders you might find the episodes arranged in: 1) the original airing order, which skipped over the figure skating arc and slotted it into the middle of season 2 2) the original American release order, which still had the figure skating arc in season 2, but moved it to a bit earlier 3) the modern home release order, which moves the figure skating arc into its canonically correct position in the middle of season 1 but as you can see, the difference between these is just that if you watch the episodes in the order you're given, you might skip OVER an arc. As long as you start on episode 1 and keep watching until you get to the end of the Shampoo arc, you're not going to encounter anything from LATER in the manga. So yeah, just start at the beginning and watch until you get to the end of the same content you just watched in this episode. There's a bunch of anime-original content along the way, including a full episode centered around Dr Tofu, but nothing that's going to spoil anything from season 2 of the remake as long as you stop at the point where this episode ended. Simple and easy. Don't worry.

He was meant to be the next Ten of Urusei Yatsura, who was so popular that Ms Takahashi had no choice but add him to her manga. Too bad she didn't with Sasuke

Its an anime, if the characters were "normal" the show would be boring. XD Ranma is only 16, was raised to be a man among men, the Tendo girls being the first females around him for a long period of time so he basically dunno how to act properly in front of girls and feel bad when he make them cry. Also Akane is always violent toward Ranma even when its not his fault whilst Shampoo is the first one saying she likes him and being really nice to him (aside girl Ranma). So all of this combined is the reason why Ranma starts regretting breaking Shampoo's heart at the end.

I think you are missing several points. Ranma is 16, and so is So even Akane when she are violent with him, it is always a reaction to his harsh words, or something like that. BOTH of them are Immature and not honest about their feelings. Shampoo is not the first girl to treat him kindly, Akane did that in the first episode when she smiled at him and said "Let's be friends" It seems like it was the moment he fell in love with her. Ranma was sad to make Shampoo cry because he was soft inside. Not because Shampoo was special to him, or else there would be no point in lying down while he said that Instead of catching up with her. Also an important point, his saying in the previous episode "I wish Akane was this straightforward with me" every time he sees a girl act cute to him, all that comes to his mind is: I want it from Akane.
