Hi Dr. Lauren! My son rolls to the left, but I get a lot of resistance/attempting to roll him the right. His body almost stiffens, though I have been able to assist him a handful of times with ease and he has done it himself once or twice. Any suggestions?

Hi Cara! Thank you so much for your comment. I wrote most of this in the other comment you left on the pull to sit video, so glad that you've already found the baby tornado exercise as it was one of my recommendations on that comment. If you haven't yet, make sure to head over to that comment for a full explanation on the biomechanics of rolling to the R (I tend to have a hard time being brief!). In this comment I'll go into a little more detail on resistance instead of just copy/pasting that previous explanation but if anyone else is reading this, the video link for the other video with a full explanation on rolling to the R is here (look for Cara's comment and my response): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnjdZ2OQbpiZbtk So baby resistance is often due to tightness or decreased ease of a motion whether it's because it's too difficult (often due to weakness in the body and the motion requiring more effort than they are able to allocate at the time) or too much stiffness in the joints or tightness in the muscles which limits the motion from flowing with the ease of a body that is fluid or has the flexibility it needs to operate well. I love the TMR positional releases to increase mobility especially for rolling in the upper trunk / lower trunk rotation directions as well as in the sidebend directions. With these motions, you test the baby and then only complete the easy direction, allowing the baby to move out of the position if needed and never going past a baby's resistance level. Then you follow up with 30 seconds to 1 minute of bouncing to "lock in" the new motion vestibularly (connecting the body and brain together with increased repetitive motion). There are a few more directions that a baby could be screened in regarding TMR and I do those often via online consultations that can be booked here: drlaurenbaker.clientsecure.me/request/service To start I would definitely continue doing the baby tornado as well as the two TMR positions linked below: Upper Trunk / Lower Trunk rotation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4Hch5-Eir-ie6c Lower trunk sidebend: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqGokmR4r7d_pbs Global test for motion: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2WVc2BpgZxma8k Learning to Roll Playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLxYt0JBWx03SHjgrAXqUkVXDgZ6Ox8lN6 Hope this is helpful!

Can I do this with my 3.5 m? When I go back to front starting with legs I notice he doesn’t follow with his arm.

Hi Tatiana! Yes, you can do this exercise with your 3.5 month old, but they would be on the early side so it's okay if they are not fully participating. I would want to make sure that have good head control while doing this exercise or it may be a little advanced. If your little is still working on head control, this might be a better exercise to work on the arm coming across: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hImYdmt5bNOAoNE
