Andy, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I've been going through a low recently. Doing research from home without a pay is proving way difficult than I thought and I'm losing my motivation like anything. Your presentation and tips has given me a push which I was looking for. The X-Effect technique is a true life saver. Thanks a lot mate!!! Keep on making great videos 😇😇😇

Another great content Andrew! The role of this human mind is to terrify, painting everything in black & white. You have rightly shared the ways how to keep this human mind in place. Thanks again!

I'm starting a PhD and a microbusiness next year and working on them now. As soon as I'm obligated, I tend to goof off so I gotta do something to reduce it. I appreciate your memento mori as I love this genre of Dutch painting. The Victorian culture of memento mori gave mortality a dignified public status instead of doing its best to ignore it. I will make both. Too easy to guiltily ignore paper tucked away so they will be in my face on the fridge. Excellent idea Andrew. Thankyou!

Thank you for this great video! Keeping motivation strong can be a challenge. Would you do a video on how to become good at research? Sometimes it is discouraging because I haven't learned how to do research well yet. Sometimes I feel like I'm just spinning my wheel without much progress.

Thought: For the two jar bean count thing, label the jar with fewer beans, such as the Done jar, and Left (to go) Jar, and have that smaller, but growing, jar to the front, so you can see your progress!

Great video by the way! But I have been thinking about your point on caffeine as well, and agree that there definitely is a crash later on in the day. I remember my first time drinking coffee I drank it at 7-8 am in the morning and by 13:20 I was almost falling asleep in class, now the crashes happen, but I don't really feel them. To get to my arguments for drinking one cup of coffee in the morning, rather than staying completely free: 1) If you're tired in the morning, and can't be asked to get out of bed and do your tasks, getting that cop of coffee, will honestly just make you happy in your morning, and give you a purpose to get out of bed, so it just makes life easier in that sense. 2) My peak intellectual performance is also right when I wake up, so drinking that cup of coffee, will sort of maximize my peak state, which is where I do all of the heavy work, and then the moderate tasks should be able to get done as well even though I might be feeling slightly worse compared to me not drinking coffee. I would seriously love to hear what you think about this!

I second you on this. The difference is that coffee is too strong for me so tea works like a charm in my case. I also always have my drinks less sweetened or else I’ll get nauseous lol. I don’t know if age matters too. I find people’s responses to caffeine and sugar interesting btw 😊

In fact, tea and coffee have similar effects. The most important thing is not to over-depend on them and drink too much.

Hi Andy, I could really do with an answer to a question I have-you can be brief!. You were kind enough to answer my last question so thanks for that. Does having research questions that are too narrow run the risk of missing out on important areas that you may wish to cover? Or will these areas come out in your analysis anyway? Is it better to have broader questions that are still focused so that you can cover more?

For the 'x effect', by "every day" do you mean literally every day? I think there needs to be space for days off when it comes to work activities to avoid burnout. What do you think?
@DrAndyStapleton
@DrAndyStapleton 2 жыл бұрын
For a habit to stick you should do it every day for about 50 days. You don't have to do it for long. The task could be "read for 10 minutes". If you do longer, great!
