Lifesaver! I am running a 2022 MacBook Pro, and this hack still works great! For anyone who only has one of the dongle‘s… You can plug one HDMI cable directly into the MacBook Pro, and the other one plugged into the dongle and that will also extend both screens (not duplicate). And if necessary, you can open the MacBook Pro and have three screens. Thanks again! Very concise, very informative and no fluff!

Helpful video. Thanks. The Satechi USB - C Dual Multimedia adapter means you don't need 2 dongles ( docks) or a dongle ( dock) and a separate HDMI / USB C connector to another port. The Satechi Dual Multimedia has a dual plug that plugs into the 2 usb c ports in the mac and this dongle has 2 HDMI ports in it for your monitors to plug straight into. It also has the SD and micro sd card slots ethernet port and usb c port so you can power on. Its a tad more expensive at around $170 AUD.

But what do you do about charging your computer if both ports are needed for the screens? I only have 2 ports and my 2017 MacBook Pro needs to have the charging cable in all the time to function 😞🙏🙏
@GetBusyLiving2 жыл бұрын
Most dongles have a USB C port as well that supports pass through power, so you can charge the computer even though the dongle is plugged in.

Can someone post links to what I need to purchase to make this work? It would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Actually one that I use is old so I couldn't find a link to it. Actually I think as long as it has a USB-C port to plug into your mac, and has an hdmi port to accept the hdmi cable from your monitor, I see no reason why it won't work. They key thing I think (and technically I do not know why this is) is that you need a separate dongle per monitor, it won't work if you try and put two monitors through one dongle.

How can I do this with MacBook Air 2017 model on two screens with one HDMI and the other VG?
@GetBusyLiving3 жыл бұрын
You just need to get the right adapter - you probably have 2 usb ports and a thunderbolt 2, so you will need a vga to usb, or most likely a vga to thunderbolt adapter

You need to make sure the dongles you buy can be plugged into your computer. So don't buy USB c dongles if you don't have USb C ports. You should probably get thunderbolt to HDMI adapters.

my husband has a set up where he has a dongle that he has two HP monitors plugged into, the same dongle has a USB-C that he then connects to his laptop. The keyboard and mouse are also plugged into the dongle. Will this work for me? OR because the monitors are going into the dongle will I need to figure out how my MacBook Pro 2014 to go through the dongle?
@GetBusyLiving4 жыл бұрын
It is worth a try, however that is kind of what I tried to start with and it wasn't until I used a separate dongle for each monitor that it worked. I also have the keyboard and mouse plugged into one of the dongles and that works fine. Give it a shot but if it doesn't work you may need a second dongle. I have put amazon links in my description to help show you what I am using.

I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro. Using a splitter has worked fine. Went into Best Buy thinking I needed to get all of the equipment, she assured me that the splitter would not mirror.
