Parallel comp is a MUST if you're using samples only. It's your best shot at recreating the sound of a lively performance.

Hey Misha, would you ever do a channel explaining how you get guitars so meat-y and chunky in the mix?

I was watching this while working on my mix and said to myself "Fuck, I've been doing this for almost a year now why doesn't it sound nearly as good?" and then out of curiosity I listened to some old Bulb demos; I then realized that everyone starts somewhere and all of my discouragement faded. That said, I will still strive to get as good of a sound as that one day.

Meanwhile I listened to the old Bulb demos and realized that I'm still fifty levels below Misha in sound quality.

Thanks for posting! But all of a sudden, my GGD kick is loud, and all other kit pieces are quiet. Mixers all at same level, velocity all at same levels... not sure how to fix. Help!! lol
@primarypenguin7 жыл бұрын
Misha you probably already know this but if you route all source tracks to "no bus" and leave the sends, you can hear just the send, the parallel compression in this case. Kind of a pain in the ass but possible. And I think you can also do some witchcraft with control room.
@andyTHPS8 жыл бұрын
Do you ever compress the drums individually before sending them to your drum compression bus you have going here?
@Peristox8 жыл бұрын
It looks like he has compression before he's sending it to the PAR/VERB Busses. Although I'm not sure if it's pre or post fader. IT also seems like he d be doing light compression on the individuals with a slower attack maybe..?

what sort of project is this? I noticed everything is a stereo audio file so is this set for mastering or something?
@xPaRkxWaYxDRiVex7 жыл бұрын
How would you set the levels by ear? Would you crank the compression buss then set the send faders first or vice versa? Seems like a revolving door
@sword-and-shield Жыл бұрын
Sometimes, feeding the kick and snare to separate Para Comp busses gives better results because the comp only has one signal effecting it, allowing a more focused punch...try it. Neither way is an always best way.

Is there a way to do this parallel compression thing using Ezdrummer? Cannot find out how...
@MikaTarkela8 жыл бұрын
What is the difference between a track and a bus?
@user-rf7br8yb3l8 жыл бұрын
Mika Tarkela think of busses as a group output. Generally used to sum multiple things to one fader (i.e.: multitracked drums all sent to one drum buss) There are some differences between live and studio environments though, live board busses may not have any gain controls besides the individual faders of the tracks sent, whereas an AUX track in your DAW has pre/post fader gain controls. AUX sends are primarily effect sends, like for reverb. Hope that helps.

im very conflicted. If im using addictive drums and its compresses and EQs all the drums within it already. Is something i should be messing with

@Andyw12288 жыл бұрын
Isn't this the normal old bread and butter compression ? To me it seems the normal and only way to compress drums- build a subchannel and then effects. OK, you could manually compress each part of the drums, but I consider all drum tracks as one Instrument + overheads and ambience. But thx for all your work and effort. You are truly important to the metal community.
@manny755866 жыл бұрын
Andyw1228 he sorta skipped the part about their being another compressor on the whole kit in addition to the one dedicated to the kick and snare. Chris Selim has a great video about how to do this in Cubase on his channel as well.

Misha, I need to know if it is possible to add drum pieces to the kits in getgood Drums modern a massive. I purchase the product and have been messing with it for days but I cannot figure out how to make the drum kit bigger. I want more than just three Tom, I want to kick drums, and who wants only symbols and a splash? Is it possible to add pieces to the kids?
@Aaron_LH8 жыл бұрын
Are the samples with GGD pre processed or raw? Both perhaps?
@BigFatCock08 жыл бұрын
I believe they're essentially raw.
@AlanThomas18 жыл бұрын
From the FAQ page : "...there’s some very light EQ on most of the shells and additional processing on the kicks. However, we’ve kept the processing to a minimum to give you as many options as possible."
