I had an answer for this but the more I watched it, the less I could make sense of it. 😂 Like... Slide your feet? What happened? Did Miles think the play was over?

rick already took the blame. they should have just fouled. but then the pacers winning wouldnt have been as good :(

Ok, about boxing out, I tend to think of it the same way you do. But the other day, I heard Josh Hart, who gets a lot of rebounds, say that this is not how he does it, because it's "not realistic" in NBA games, and you wind up locating the other rebounder but losing track of the ball. Instead, he tries to anticipate where the ball is going, or something. And I'm thinking, well ok, but maybe the point isn't so much to get yourself a board. It's to deny one to their bigs or board crashers so that your bigs can get one. Look at the examples you showed where Dame or Bev is out of the play, watching the shot go up and arc toward the basket and bounce around. That's when they could put their back on a rebounder and get low and use their legs to dig him tf out of there! So now your bigs aren't fighting for it vs someone their own size. No, you don't get a stat for this, but I guarantee that it will reduce the other team's ORs and putbacks etc. If you're a small you can try this yourself in freaking pickup games, and it works wonders. Team rebounding, super obvious, why don't more NBA teams do it?
@noisepuppet2 ай бұрын
BTW, warning, if you do try this in pickup games, the other team's bigs will 1000% hate it and start making fun of your shoes and may oops accidentally hit you in the face with the ball 😂 Fair play

Great game, but compared to the Knicks-76ers battle number four of the postseason,they were just playing. Watching that one, it felt like lives were at stake.

agreed!!! Breaking down that series right now actually. Been going through each game :) Stay tuned

My understanding of icing the screen is that there are three parts: 1. feeding the ball handler toward the sideline, where an off ball defender on that ("strong") side is coming up to help, and because the on-ball defender can't see this happening, the help defender has to call the ice and then actually do it. 2. The helper has to leave an assignment to do this, so a weak-side defender has to rotate to the strong side, which is called shrinking the strong side, and the idea is that the nearest open guy should be two passes away, not just one. 3. The main objective is to make ball pick up his dribble, and the nanosecond the help defender sees this happening, he's got to leave the action and return to his assignment, and same for the other defenders, and this distinguishes the ice from a trap, where the help stays and tries to force a turnover. I think that's the textbook version, and it all has to happen just like that, or else it's busted. I see what looks like busted versions all the time, with crucial elements missing. Or kinda drop-coverage versions where the action isn't so much out on the wings as it is on the elbows, practically with the ball handler already having a foot in the paint. And I don't know if these are mistakes or just variations I'm unfamiliar with, because there's so much I don't understand about the NBA game. Anyway, thanks for the geeky videos and the chance to geek out in the comments. I hope someone will chime in with their thoughts. 😊
