Thank you for the help, I'm taking down my chandelier and swapping it out for a fan with lights. I did this before in another room and the wiring for every room is different in this old house. Some have ground ( first level) second level had none. I have a contact wire tester and needed to remember what I needed to test.

Great video but a few comments. I would encourage any home gamer to always test ALL wires in older homes. I found non-black hot wires in my old house believe it or not. Second, is it the quality of the wire nut or the fact that the "shoemaker" didn't screw it on correctly by first twisting the wires together properly? Maybe the size cap he/she used was incorrect? In any event good direction in pointing all this stuff out on the front end.

Dining room is fused in with my living room so having a chandelier is pointless but great video.

What about turning off the breaker?
@andersonced6 ай бұрын
That’s what I want to know. Is it enough to flip the light switch or should you turn off the breaker as well?
@genso30656 ай бұрын
Always turn breaker off which makes sure no power going to that line. If you have to question yourself, then do it. 😊

I'm interested in simply removing a chandelier and closing up the hole without replacing the fixture. What is the best way to secure the wires safely? Thanks.
@getitdonehomerepair Жыл бұрын
The safest way to close off and remove the box is to follow the wires from the box that you want to remove back to the box that feeds the power to it. At that box you can remove the wires safely. Now the box with the chandelier can be removed and sheet rock over.

@@getitdonehomerepair I am just renting and plan to put the chandelier up again when I leave. So can I just close up the wire ends and secure them above the hole in the ceiling?

@@getitdonehomerepair what about just securing the wires in the ceiling so that I can put the chandelier back on when I move out?
