This was such an exciting film, as a history nerd i LOVED it. So much that I organized a free viewing for middle school students i worked with in Philadelphia then had them do a scavenger hunt across the city that took them to a lot of the same local spots that they hadn't explored yet. I'd hoped to get them to DC too, but we didn't have the funding for that. They had a great time and it was so much fun or the mentors too. Definitely a highlight of my life 🗽

Fun Facts: the reason Ben Franklin used the name Silence Dogood was because he was a runaway slave and his owner was his brother that he was writing to at the time. Also while urine or citrus juice had been used since roman times for an invisible ink, Washington bought a supply of another type that did require more than just heat to reveal. His spies during the revolution used the new version because British troops did know to use a candle or fire to reveal the earlier form. You can use lemon juice and an old style light bulb to play with the citrus type.

@charlesmaurer6214
@charlesmaurer6214 5 күн бұрын
@@JasonKreider-eq8kp I think the beating was before to force him to renew his slavery. After Ben established himself in Philly he did eventually come to terms but Ben's autobiography cuts off about at the Revolution starting. Was a disappointment when I read it because it cut off much of his most important history as a founding father. I also think if I remember right his brother was among some who left too, being a crown loyalist.

I was obsessed with the Freemasons after I saw this movie as a kid and you can imagine my surprise when I found out that 14 U.S. presidents have been Freemasons, 9 signers of the Declaration Of Independence were Freemasons, and even the cornerstone of the first White House was laid in a Masonic ceremony. They literally and figuratively built this country. In the movie they’re almost treated as a somewhat secret society, but in reality they’re just the oldest fraternity in the United States. And what’s surprising is that in their almost 300 year history they have never actively recruited members, their rule is “to be one, ask one”.
@chadbennett7873
@chadbennett7873 6 күн бұрын
True statements, with one minor change ... oldest fraternity in the world. The recognized date is 1717 in England, but it has been around in some form since around 1390, from the Regis Poem (or Halliwell document). You are absolutely correct, in the United States, a man must ask to become a member. There are no invitations, it's an inclusive order, not exclusive. I'm a fifth generation Freemason, 28 years, and a four-time Past Master, so this film really has a fun theme for me. Thanks for your comment. It sounds as though you might have joined.

The thing I liked, most refreshing to see in the tinfoil-hat convention that modern society seems to have become, is that their place in the Republic's history is recognized & acknowledged without ignorantly characterizing & portraying them as shady at best & villainous at worst.

Yep! I am one. Inactive so, don’t ask me, but if you’re not one, do ask one. It’s a really special organization. $2 million per day given to charity. The Shriners’ Hospitals. It’s not conspiratorial. It’s just really good, humanitarian stuff. I still don’t agree with the fact that women can’t join (everywhere yet) but it’s a great organization.

@@MrDevintcoleman Good to know. Why do you want women in there? Join Eastern Star, White Shrine, or the other organizations that have co-mingled membership.. The women can participate in all of the social activities, like Family dinners and events, just not the ritual work. There has to be a place for each gender, especially when there are organizations associated with the craft where men and women can work together.

@ sadly no. I tried to join when I was around 18, then again around 20, and again around 24. I was even invited to witness an installation (I think that’s what it’s called). Every time I filled out the form they gave me they said that they would contact me to tell me if I made it in or not. But they never called or even emailed me back. After the first 2 times they ghosted me I went to them and at the Masonic hall and they said it didn’t make sense that no one contacted me and that they would look into it. They never called back. I thought that maybe the fact my great grandfather was a Mason would’ve helped, but it still hurt deeply that this great brotherhood just lost my information or just ignored me not once, not twice, but THREE DAMN TIMES!

Fun History Fact: The “treasure” that the Knights Templar discovered is still one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in history. Some say, it was a massive hoard of literal treasure, others that it contained the body of Jesus Christ, others (as theorized in The Da Vinci Code) say it was proof that Jesus had a bloodline and that the church covered it up so the knights used it to blackmail the church. What is known that is that almost overnight these knights became one of the most powerful organizations in all of Europe. According to historians, King Philip IV of France, who was already deeply in debt to the Templars from his war against England, persecuted, tortured till they gave false confessions, and then executed the leaders of the Templars as a way of freeing himself from his debts. But to this day, no one knows definitively knows what valuable thing the Templar is found that gave them so much power so quickly.

Fun fact: There were actually fifty-six signatures on the Declaration of Independance, the final one having been added in 1781. So the clue on the pipe would have been made at some point during the four years between the original signing in 1776 and the addition of the final signature in 1781. The National Archives actually expressed concerns over this movie and made changes to their security protocols after it was released.

oh,man i loved tht Kristin picked up the clues also, SHE was very into everything that showed the path, and man is she a doll. NIOt woke either as Ive seen what she posts on her IG. a real knockout too

@@michaelceraso1977 Totally agree. Only the knockout to knockouts. She is so invested in all the movies, Armageddon, the LOTR and Hobbit series, John Wick, etc.. Even if she was woke, I don't think that would have changed her if she is the way she is in her reactions. Great friendships across multiple types of people across her reactions, emotional heartfelt reactions to all types of scenarios. Kristen is just Kristen, and a enjoyable, woke or not. I would like to know her.

I liked how the clues led to physical items that were needed in order to get to the next clue, also technology and a little chemistry, like lemons and heat to reveal the hidden message on the back of the Constitution.

What I always loved about this movie is that Sean Bean isn't some bumbling moron like most Hollywood villains, he's just as smart as the main characters solving things himself with limited resources in terms of clues / ciphers / items

I love that there are 2 lucifers. In this movie... the fbi agent in charge was lucifer in the movie Little Nicky, and the agent that explained the Silence Dogood stuff was lucifer in the tv show Supernatural. It's funny when paired with the fact that Nicolas Cage also played Ghost Rider, who sold his soul to the devil to save his father. Also the guy who was with abigail when they toasted at the gala also played a teacher in supernatural, who was a witch that performed a spell to have himself possessed by the demon Samhain.

I'm not entirely sure if that was Sean Bean or an imposter, I mean the movie finished and he appeared to still be alive.

I remember this movie came out of literally nowhere and was just a hit that stuck around for awhile. Also came out right before my 5th grade trip to Philadelphia. I know people like to meme/hate on Philly, but it has so many historical landmarks and buildings and things to see all from the origins of our country. All in walking distance too.
