Loving the Boromir support here. So many don’t understand that he truly was a good man with a caring heart and a bravery unseen by most, they only see that he succumbed to the ring yet he is so much more than that.
@SunsetInDistrict125 күн бұрын
Totally agree. The Ring used his love for Gondor and its people and twisted it, and made it his fall. That's what made him so relatable. Everyone aims to be like Aragon, but many will eventually be like Boromir if they are in his shoes.
@Mantis_Toboggan_MD.5 күн бұрын
To be fair the films (the cinema releases in particular) don't really do him justice. He's portrayed far more sympathetically in the books. Another thing a lot of reactors do not understand is that the Ring would've consumed everyone in the Fellowship eventually, even Gandalf! That is why Gandalf was so determined for Frodo not to offer him the ring in the first place.

Sean Bean gives one of the all time greatest and most emotional death scenes in movie history. When Boromir is at his lowest and about to die in despair, Aragorn lifts his spirit by promising to protect THEIR people, giving Boromir peace of mind and heart knowing that his people will be saved by Aragorn, his brother in arms, his captain, his king. 🫡😭
@ucheehQ2 күн бұрын
I have mixed feelings about his death in the movie vs. the book. On one hand, the movie scenes are done so incredibly well and they close his character arc perfectly. Sean Bean's acting is immaculate, as is Viggo Mortensen's. On the other hand, the idea of book-Boromir being killed without the last moments with Aragorn comforting him and giving him that peace I think is an amazing piece of tragic writing. Boromir died defending two Hobbits, while in his mind he had failed completely. He succumbed to the corruption of the Ring, and he could not see a good outcome of this endeavour. In his final moments, he thought it was all in vain and his beloved Gondor would fall to Sauron. There was no peace of mind for him in the end, only despair, yet he still tried his absolute best and refused to go down easily. No matter how emotional the movie scenes are, whenever I think about book-Boromir, it hits me a lot harder.

One tidbit I noticed this time around is that Boromir had parallels with both wizards in this film. Saruman had the idea of ‘we can’t win against Sauron so let’s join him’ & Boromir shared a similar sentiment of ‘destroying the ring is never going to get done so we may as well use it for ourselves.’ They both thought on a selfish level & they were both willing to give up & give in. It illustrates the themes of how a lack of faith/hope can lead to corruption. But ultimately Boromir was not isolated the way that Saruman was. Boromir was honest with himself & confided with friends. He found the strength to do what was right in the end & he died a honorable, noble & heroic death, just like Gandalf. Boromir’s story illustrates what every man & woman has to face & overcome…we all have to wrestle against ourselves & our destructive vices & that our decisions impact other planes of existence & vice versa. The natural influences the supernatural & Vice versa. We’re never alone, you’re never alone.

He’s also the man who, early in his movie career, accidentally cut Errol Flynn during rehearsal, and nearly three decades later, stood in for David Prowse as Darth Vader during the lightsaber fights in TESB and ROTJ.

A company of dwarves was sent to reclaim Moria at one point, the leader being Balin, third cousin of Gimli. Despite success in the first few years, they were eventually all killed in Moria as you knew from the grave. Gimli and the other dwarves never got any news of what exactly happened to them though. They kept getting letters of their progress but they eventually stopped coming, which of course did spark some bad news, but they could never be sure of what exactly happened.

They aren’t your usual director’s cut, it’s my preferred method of watching these movies because they add so many small moments that really add to the characters. Sauron is a Maiar. In Tolkien's world something like a lesser angel. In the early days of the world, he was corrupted by the Valar (basically archangel) Melkor, who is the Tolkien version of the devil: the most powerful angel ever, but he grew power-hungry and arrogant and became evil. Melkor was banished from the world by the other Valar that rule in Valinor (the land in the west where the elves who leave Middle-Earth go), but Sauron went into hiding until thousands of years later he re-emerged and wanted to finish what his master started: total domination. Gandalf and the other wizards are also Maiar btw. Sent to Middle-Earth by the Valar to help the other races against Sauron.
@Craftyboy896 күн бұрын
What Sauron wanted was actually a bit different from Melkors goals. Melkor wanted to corrupt the entire world and turn it into darkness and despair, Sauron on the other hand actually wanted, like you said, total domination. Everyone would be under Saurons command and his will, those who didn't comply would perish.
I need the reactions to the next two films immediately. This was such an enjoyable watch along. Love the emotion.
@libertymasterchief6 күн бұрын
Sauron is a Maiar. In Middle Earth, there is one God, Eru Illuvatar. And before the creation of time and the world, He created the Ainur. The greater of the Ainur are known as the Valar. The lesser are the Maiar. The Valar are akin to archangels and the Maiar to angels. Gandalf, Radagast and Saruman are also Maiar. Balrogs are also Maiar. The Ainur helped in the creation of the world. However one of the Valar sewed discord into the creation. This Valar was Morgoth, the first dark lord and Sauron was his servant.
@0okamino6 күн бұрын
There are also the Maiar who became the Blue Wizards, Alatar and Pallando (fitting first three letters in that name, as Pallando joined the Istari because Alatar wanted his close pal to accompany him). Their fate after traveling to the East, however, remains a mystery, and the subject of much speculation (with few hints as to what Tolkien thought on the matter).

@0okamino6 күн бұрын
@@libertymasterchief Of course, but I figured they were worth mentioning, as they may have, even from afar (almost completely unknown and unseen in the West, and therefore unacknowledged), had more significant influence than Radagast (and don't get me wrong, I love the old tree hugger), concerning how things ultimately turned out for the Third Age of the West. It just depends on which of Tolkien's ideas (totaling about 4 or 5 fairly brief musings) about them he would have decided on, if he had ever gotten around to doing so.
@libertymasterchief6 күн бұрын
@@0okamino I completely agree. I'd love to see what Tolkien would have made canon for the blue wizards. We all know the Oscars have been suspect in recent years, but they were a strong indicator of a film's quality for many decades prior. That said, they did have a hiccup in the early 2000's... NO STORY SPOILERS AHEAD: While the 3rd Film (Return of the King) is tied for the most Academy Awards won by a movie (including Best Picture & Best Director as well as a FULL SWEEP of the nominations), its two predecessors should have won at least 4 to 5 each of the following categories, including Directing, Cinematography, Musical Score, Visual Effects (the incredible behind-the-scenes work, with both practical and CGI effects for its time), and Best Picture. In light of these absences, this Trilogy remains the most accoladed of all time, and has aged incredibly well despite approaching a quarter-century in age. What doesn't get spoken about enough is the acting...don't get me wrong, people certainly praise its high caliber chops from the entire cast, but I feel it doesn't get its recognition for its transcendence in the art of "theater". Every line was delivered as intended, every facial expression authentic, and each casting choice was a 10 out of 10. You really felt like this is what otherworldly folk would have behaved liked without the distractions of fanfiction interpretations, genre cliches, and fantasy stereotypes. The problem was that not ONE performance stood out long enough (since there were 3 films) to warrant a leading or supporting role Oscar Trophy, but if there ever was an instance where a film could win "Best Overall Acting & Chemistry By the Main Cast" category (which I think is quite legitimate, think of the "1st Avengers Film", "Ocean's 11" or "The Goonies" for starters), all 3 movies would have been crowned, no questions asked.
