I think that dialogue was quite an important thing because it was with another black person. Sam took issue with the kid referring to him as Black Falcon because the kid and his father are calling to attention the color of Sam's skin when the whole point is to stop doing that altogether. Essentially this is Sam taking issue with the idea that referring to him as 'Black Falcon', regardless of who says it and regardless of whether you say it as a point of pride or derision, you're still calling attention to his skin color as if it matters to who he is. Honestly it seems like Sam kind of shares a similar sentiment to people like Morgan Freeman who would rather that instead of racial pride be a thing, people just learn to appreciate that stuff regardless of who they, how they look are and where they come from.

Yeah, in the 60s and 70s, when they were creating black heroes, they had to unceremoniously have Black in their names. From Black Panther, to Black Lightning, to Black Goliath (Bill Foster who was played by Laurence Fishburne in the Ant-man and Wasp movie). Though Black Goliath was eventually changed to Goliath. The Falcon, who was a sidekick but did have his name on the Captain America book, and Power Man, who eventually just started going by his name, Luke Cage, were fortunate to avoid that trend.

As a black person, I can tell you that the real world counterpart to the “black falcon” comment is something many of us have dealt with before. It’s something I definitely encountered when I was younger in middle school and high school growing up with many white friends. I was always the “token black guy” and a few people would refer to me as “black Nick”. I thought it was funny at the time and it didn’t really bother me but it definitely would now. Comments like that are actually really common among young kids these days, hence the reason they probably had a young boy make the comment in the show.

The white boy before their name was mainly a blood in blood out reference… and we showed us, and our culture nothing but love. They would fight anyone who put down our culture, and on our Hispanic celebration days they represented hard with the flag. No one showed them any animosity for it because we knew they did it out of love. Context is important. It wasn’t a mockery or an appropriations on their part (which I know a lot of times it is). When it came to them, despite not being Hispanic (mostly Mexicans in that area [SW Detroit] but Puerto Ricans and various others as well), everyone you this was the culture that they grew up on so it was their culture.

I agree with Achara. The black falcon thing is not as little as people thing. Most of us see people by the color of their skin first before everything. Why can it just be a guy instead of a black guy or white guy or asian guy? Why the separation? But because we do this too often and it becomes the norm and nobody care about it anymore. But these things can really shift your assumption of a person dramatically. Like how as soon as we see a white guy, a bunch of stereotypes about white guy will pop up in our head.

Guess I'll stop watching it because I'm not qualified to give an opinion because of my race. I grew up dealing with racism too. Not the same way, but I assure you I have and in some ways that I don't even feel comfortable to mention publicly. But that doesn't stop me from having an objective opinion about a show and story telling. I understand the idea of having to deal with it constantly. And I can see that angle as far as how it makes the viewer feel, "This is how it feels in real life." Cool. Understood. For me, objectively speaking, it reminded me I was watching a show that was trying to tell me something. All other instances, didn't stop me from being absorbed in it. And to be honest, it wasn't so much the meta moment that bothered me. If it was somehow woven into the show at an earlier point (and maybe that wasn't possible, just saying), I wouldn't have had anything remotely negative to say about it. But I'm not a show runner, I'm just a dude on a couch watching a show and letting the world judge my dumb opinion.

Well, Sam is doing the banter mostly. Bucky never usually responds well, or at all to it. I think it works. They're two very different people that were connected through Steve. Now that he's gone, there's no middleman between them. Ps: Well, they need to introduce new characters. Most of the episode was with Sam and Bucky anyway. If John Walker isn't a major character after this show, then it's kinda redundant. Still, to not have a black and white story, we need to understand where all sides are coming from. That's how storytelling should be.

The cultural zeitgeist is a little funny here. Jaby is feeling like back to back to back scenes are all talking about anti black racism is a bit much, and I can understand that. I’m not here to call names or tell anyone that they’re wrong. That said, I’m going to push back a little. The scene with the kid is very relevant, because it represents a certain movement in comics and in Marvel itself that changed. The X-Men were literally an allegory for the civil rights movement, but outside of storm, the main conflict is between people who both look a certain way. (Yes, I know Magneto is a Holocaust survivor, but it’s not completely relevant to this point.). Prof. X and Magneto both present as white folks, but they represent Martin and Malcom. Who where the black superheroes of the time? Black Panther, Black Adam, Black Lightning, most supes of the time were Black “insert super name”. It’s an actual thing. I understand you’re tired, I’m not mad, and honestly, it’s fine. Smaller references aren’t going to land with everyone the same way. Comics folks aren’t all one way or another, and reaction videos are for actual reactions. There’s no reason to scold someone because they haven’t lived your life, and it’ll likely harden their opinion of you, and we’re all guilty of it.

Later ppl call Sam "Black Captain America" rather than just Captain America but also in the comics there had been a lot of that (they've tried to correct for some of it in the MCU over the years) like in the Ant Man comics Goliath (the character who helps Ghost in Ant-Man & The Wasp) was named "Black Goliath" for example.

I think they left the trucks alone because they weren't after the super soldiers they were just trying to save the hostage, which is also why they didn't go after the truck at the back but for the truck with the supposed hostage at the front. But then got entangled in the mess. Also I see the Black Falcon as going both ways. Just like they call out the racial profiling they also teach you that people shouldn't discriminate regardless of their skin colour. Like if Sam ended up as Captain American he wouldn't be Black Captain American he would just be Captain American.

Alright, so the “black falcon” joke was actually pretty poignant imo. Maybe its something that only black ppl might notice on the surface because in my community having a black superhero is the exception to the rule. So, oftentimes with older generations of black ppl especially, it almost feels like its a necessity to point out that superficial characteristic as an important trait so that its readily apparent that they(black superheroes) exist; i.e, Black Lightning, Black Panther, etc. Which is why the kid says his dad calls him that. The writing doubles down on this idea with Isaiah Bradley's character because, as we just saw, marginalized ppl arent often given the recognition deserved for their service specifically because of the insidious nature of white supremacy and its effects on society. Im not trying to sound preachy, but hopefully this comment gives a little bit of insight in how the “general black community” champions their heroes.

Was Jaby's brain switched off during this episode? He seems to not get any of the messages. 1. I completely agree with Achara's POV on the "black falcon" part. I've seen Marvel characters being called black-something if their skin color is black. If it were a white person playing it you would not call them white-something just "something". And from what I've read in the comments it seems like there are quite a few black hero's that undergo this treatment. Just call them by their actual names why add black if it isn't necessary. Plus I think its a good scene because we see Wilson not reacting aggressively, rather he treats it like a teaching moment, that surely shows me one of the reasons that Wilson is worth the cap mantle like Steve thinks. 2. Personally I don't mind when mainstream entertainment media calls out bigotry, racism, mysoginy in the real world but I guess that's a matter of preference so I guess Jaby lies on the other side of the spectrum. Marvel has consistently been calling out the "evils" of the world for decades now in their comics so I don't believe its a result of corporate virtue signaling which is probably why I'm okay with it. 3. About the animosity part, I found it quite clear that they both don't hate each other, rather they're going through differences with each other. By Jaby's logic the entirety of Cap Am Civil war is not "congruent". That entire movie is built on the premise that the avengers are split because of two different ideologies, yet in the movie we see how members of the two factions are able to have casual and amusing dialogue even though they disagree. I've had similar experiences in real life where there may be animosity between me and someone else but until we actually bring it up its in the backburner similar to how bucky and wilson finally were forced to confront one another in the therapy session. Till then, they don't acknowledge the problems with each other but that doesn't mean they arent friends. Friendship isnt an all hate or all love type deal imo so just cause you have differences doesnt mean you hate the person. Then again these are just the opinions of a stranger on the internet so who even cares.

Disagree about the action scenes. If this is like a six hour movie- no action movie has a huge action opener and then each subsequent action scene be bigger or equal. You might get a big opener and certainly a big finale, but I’m not expecting massive action scenes every episode. I like the mix and, for me, I’m loving the character arcs and social commentary.

people who are asking them to stop reacting just because he's not a comic nerd and doesn't know every single thing should stop because most of the MCU fans doesn't know most stuff from comics either and only became fans after watching movies. he is just watching and sharing his experience with you. For people like us who know a little bit about the topic it can be a bit annoying sometimes when the other person doesn't get it. but we have to realize when we were learning about that topic, we were ignorant too. So, when Jaby and Achara are watching they are learning too. And Jaby when you said why they didn't track them one reason was also that redwing also acts as a booster for falcon if you remember from the first episode and to catch up to the trucks, he would need his booster and they would have definitely seen Bucky running behind the trucks if he could get to them at all.

I think the race relations I think is extremely important, especially when it comes to leading to falcon becoming Captain America, because of the Isaiah Bradley story line in the comics. That storyline was basically the Tuskegee airmen wrapped in the Captain America story. It was also touched upon in the watchmen series on Showtime. If you had a black superhero that was just as good if not better than a white superhero would America accept him for just being a great superhero or would the title black (enter the name here...in this case it was black falcon but it is touched on by Sam Earlier with the white panther comment earlier).

The show is not flawed, you are just not picking up on every current polictical nuance the show is dishing out! This show is not meant to be an action comedy alone. The point and the meaning of that Black Falcon scene was to give a Sarcastic Answer to all those who give racist remarks on the Superheroes. For instance Cap has a Black Sidekick Falcon,Tony has a Black sidekick Rhodey. So they're basically trying to show us Falcon is a very vital character himself and till the end of the show we might end up being a Falcon fan. And not just him Rhodey also. We're going to see his Journey in Armor Wars. So they're trying to show the Stereotype people have for a Black Superhero. Thats why Black Panther has a big meaning. In my humble opinion, someone's understanding of something should never be based on how much they agree with you. Alternate perspectives is important. I don't take issue with how much racism is highlighted. It's the execution. It was back to back to back. For some, they might say, "Well that's how it feels in real life." Fine, I'll grant you that. For me, I could just feel the writing because it was stacked instead of spread out. For some reason, the latter two being back to back was fine for me. If you paid any attention while watching any of the Marvel movies that had steve + wilson + bucky in them, you'd know exactly why bucky and falcon hate each other and yet at the same time tolerate each other and also sometimes prefer the comraderies of each other - It's having Steve as their common point. They're both very good buddies of steve, but from different eras, so they both have that "he's the new friend, i'm the old friend" feeling causing the natural tension/hatred between them. Then, there's the losing a common best friend part that causes them to connect on some level as friends. So yeah, it is absolutely not a surprise why falcon and bucky can simultaneously hate and revere each other. Also, achara's clearly got a better read on the situation based on her interpretations of it all. Jaby's just being a very annoying/ignorant contrarian, kind of a let down if i'm being honest. The scene with the kid calling wilson "black falcon" is a direct setup for special treatment given to a hero based on his race/skin color - the very next set of scenes build on that by revealing the black Captain America, who, just like steve was a Captain America (google Isaiah Marvel) , but because of his skin color was treated differently by those around him. It's like the color of the skin mattered more than the role the person played. Also, the reason why falcon, bucky or even walker for that matter didn't pursue the truck any longer was that they knew they were up against something they were not equipped to deal with - a whole band of super soldiers, boosted by the same super-serum that made Steve, Bucky and Isaiah what they are. You need the entire Avengers team to tackle a team of rogue super-soldiers. I don't think this is as hard to compute as you made it out to be in the video. I mean, if you're gonna watch these shows just for the surface level stuff, you might as well not watch them anymore Jaby. You had the same issue with WandaVision with the unwarranted nitpicking.

Plus, I think Jaby is a little use to the old formula of the MCU when some things are more straight forward. However, the MCU is adapting more and changing the formula which confuses some people. However, it's awesome that you picked up on some of these things like I did 💪 But I do understand. I sometimes get a little disappointed when I pick up things and other people don't understand it. Part of what Sam is afraid of is that they won't accept him as a black Captain America. Isaiah is a physical representation of that. Listening to his story on how they treated a black Cap (even though it was in the 50s/60s) might have gotten to him and let out in anger. The cops immediately stopping them and wanting to arrest Sam for harassing a white man, elevated the situation more. I see people ask why the cops were there. Black neighborhood in Baltimore... I'm thinking they patrol that neighborhood heavily. That's why that second cop car got there so fast. It even took Bucky saying something for them to really look at Sam to see who he was. Steve just volunteered to serve in the military- Captain America happened incidentally later, and he never really wanted that. And he couldn’t do the cool stuff, he wasn’t the star, before he was made into a super soldier. In fact, the doctor who gave him that specifically *rejected* the John Walker of the group of potentials. This guy wants to be a hero, he wants to be “Captain America,” the personality. And Cap never, never would have hacked into a colleague’s tech to spy on him and follow him. That shit was what he got mad at Black Widow for doing. People like just look for any excuse to be cynical, Bucky and Sam were disrespecting him for no reason when all he did was tried to be nice and get along yet you come out liking them more, they have no reason to treat him that way Sam gave up the shield that shits on him.

@Akshay 18 If u notice in trailer Sam asks Bucky why he doesn't use his Vibranium arm he then replied he is right handed. And also against Captain America he was engaged with hydra, which makes his mentality much more violent and strong, so he can beat Cap. But now he is totally different person, which makes him not that violent nor that much powerful. Just my opinion.

Sebastian Stan (bucky actor) said one of the reasons Steve gave the shield to Sam and not bucky was because he wanted to give bucky a break, he wanted to give bucky a life without the weight of captain america on his shoulders, a life that was taken away from him when he enlisted. So that to me sounds like a very nice thing to do if you ask me.

With the kid who said, Black Falcon, points out that it is rasist, to call a super hero Black while he is Black. And do not label others. Do not say Black kid, white kid etc....because Michael Jackson said it doesn't really matter if your Black or White. That is the point.

Calling Falcon Black Falcon, was a way for his community to both embrace and claim him. It's a point that the story is making that there aren't a lot of Black heroes. Case and point, there was a black Super Soldier long before Steve yet no one knew about him. Want real world context? Look up the Tuskegee Airmen and the Tuskegee Experiment. That said, what show were you watching? It seems that she "gets it". Obviously you don't...

I think a prime example in the real world to the black Falcon moment with the kid is in sports. When people talk about quarterbacks like Brady, Brees, or Rodgers it is just quarterback. But when players like Mahomes, Wilson or Jackson are brought up the term black QB is used sometimes as if to differentiate one type of QB fom another.
