I avoided this for the LONGEST time because I don't play the game, and my limited contact with the fandom was AWFUL, but I finally bit the bullet about a year ago and never once regretted it. Without getting into spoilers, the whole thing is just so well written, so well acted, and SO well paced.

I'm glad you finally got around to seeing this series. Best series ever made imo, animated or live action. Actually, I usually don't like animation. I'm completely repulsed by most anime because of the aesthetic. But this is different, as you can see. It's more like a really well-painted graphic novel. They even released a series showing the behind the scenes, how they made it, stories of things that happened during production called Bridging the Rift, and it's also well-made and entertaining.

When this 1st was on netflix it dropped in 3 episodes every wkd. For 3 weeks. Some deal they had with thw creators. Ppl were talkin about this show for 3 months! So it's meant to binged in 3 episode sections. Act 1. 2. And 3

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I am glad Vi defended her, but saying she's her problem? 🤨 I'm sure that's something no one wants to hear. Then again, I don't necessarily think Vi meant Powder's not helpful, but that she's her responsibility. Since their parents died, Vi has pretty much raised Powder.🤷‍♀️

Which as the youngest of my siblings, I know it would hurt if they said I was their *problem*. Saying I’m their responsibility would hurt less personally (and be more accurate in both cases) which is really what Vi meant. (In my humble opinion)

You could say that this series is some of the character's prequel stories. If you want to learn how very difficult it was to bring this series to the screen, once you are done with this season watch Arcane: Bridging the Rift, it's something like a 5-part series here on KZbin. You are in for a wild and emotional ride!!

I really recommend watching the 5-part making of series they released here on youtube ("bridging the rift") after finishing episode 9, it is so incredible how much thought and effort was put into this thing. Also: besides the imagine dragons song, all others are (afaik) riot-owned and wont be DMCA'ed (unless you literally put the entire thing in)

Great reaction, love seeing new people discover Arcane that in my eyes is the best series ever made. Best going as blind as possible, so no, it won't detract it actually enhance your viewing experience not knowing anything. Also, as someone already pointed out in another comment, the way it came out is best to think of the whole series as 3 parts (Act´s) each divided in to 3 episodes, not a rule to view this wat but keep it in mind. Looking forward to the next video, enjoy!

If you really wanna play hide and seek with references, watch the whole series more than once. The way they complete themes, bring back references, and do it all so smoothly is insane. I’ve seen it probably 15 times and still see new things each time.

Yeah, this show has the best animation, and it's a masterpiece in every aspect. It has incredible voice acting, writing, dialogue, storytelling, animation, visuals, character arcs, score, soundtrack, etc. And on top of all of that, something that is really hard these days is really, really good-written female characters. All the women in this show are 10/10; they are so well written. While other projects are doing the typical women can't fail and have to be overpowered from the start, can't have a character arc, doesn't need to train and just be better than everyone (Captain Marvel and Rey are the perfect example), these female character are amazing, this is how you write characters. And the best way to look at this episode is that the show has three acts, and episodes 1-3 are the first film, episode 4-6 is the sequel, and 7-9 is the third film. And they couldn’t grab the bag because the river is very toxic, just like the air, but worse.

As with anything exceptional it's the writing. We can gush all day about the fantastic animation, characters and world building but without the writing to back it up it all falls apart. 10/10 show that has no weak points. It's amazing and deserves every bit of the huge praise its received.

The animation is 3D that is, literally, then hand painted over. even the lighting isn't dynamic, 3D rendered lighting. every single frame of every single episode is handed painted and textured for the exact desired look with 2D animated layers.

​@@silver9wolf6 If you watch the bridging the rift episodes you can see they handle every single frame manually. while a lot of the foundation came from various CG elements every single element within a frame was hand painted. and that is provably so because all of the lightining in every scene is painted in manually. no computer use at all. which means everything within every scene that is lit has to be lit and textured by hand. which will always be, every single element within the frame.

You were kind of onto something with the blend of animation styles! It's actually fully 3d animated, but the shading and details are digitally painted over top, frame by frame, all by hand. It's an extremely time-consuming process, but that's what makes it look so good.

correct me if I'm wrong but I think they painted over the 3D *models* (not the animated models) but some expressions were hand drawn and the hard lighting on the characters (which is usually just done in animating with a light source hitting the 3D models but it doesn't match the painted aesthetic 3D models, so they painted the light on)

A couple of notes for your intro into the series. I highly, highly recommend that before watching episode 7, that you watch the Imagine Dragons "Enemy" video. It gives a little context that makes the episode hit that much harder. I may be too late but the season is broken down into 3 sections of 3 episodes each. Lastly, after watching the season, a great follow up is the Worlds 2023 show open. Consider it a live action version of the show.
