Gojo here couldn't resolve himself to attack him both because he was his only friend, and because he had no goal. Gojo never believed in the "sorcerer's duty to save people", he went along with it because he somewhat looked up at Geto's strong morals. Seeing Geto change this much made him question why he was actually fighting, and he only understood that later: to instruct a new generation of sorcerers, good enough to rid the sorcery world of corruption, and strong enough that they would've never had to see each other die young. Yet in this he also accepted his role in saving people, as he went to absurd lengths to make sure he never killed anybody (except the bad guys) with his sorcery

I’m glad finally someone is pointing this out and talking about it… Yes. Gojo never wanted to protect the weak, in fact, if it weren’t for Geto, Gojo would be a full-blown loose cannon no better than your average Curse-User that Jujutsu High targets for extermination. Gojo’s sense of justice and “what is right” came from Geto, Geto was his literal conscious made as a physical person, he was Gojo’s sense of reason. Whenever Gojo had doubts or concerns about what he thought he should do in any moral situation, he would turn to Geto, or if he wasn’t there, he would say in his mind: “What would Suguru do?” When Gojo lost Geto, his entire understanding of the World collapsed. It was if Justice itself just picked up a gun, shot a guy, and then Just walked out of the building while slamming the door in gojo’s face …What the Fuck?

There's meaning in that", meaning that they both would be playing out their roles as Curse User and Sorcerer. But because, before this, Gojo never believed in the ideals of sorcerers, for him that act was empty. But in JJK0 Satoru had matured, found an objective and a meaning, so even if Suguru was his only friend, he killed him to accomplish his duty. THAT had meaning for both of them

I was late to the anime and was surprised at how popular Gojo was given he is utterly devoid of any moral compass until he becomes a teacher and he matures later on. It's why I also prefer Megumi and Todo to Itadori. I know they're just teens when they're in Jujutsu High but having principles and a philosophy makes them much more compelling characters.

I love this version so much more than the movie version. It is much more interesting instead of "Moo, everything is sad because he becomes evil and they part ways". You can hear it in the soundtrack. At first it seems very interogation, pheonix wright style with how Geto is confronting Gojo about his own believe and his arrogance, and then when the flutes come in, it turns to a "you are free to try and stop me, you have the right to do that, but I have chosen this path so I will give it my best, See you around"and love it!

I love when authors do this with their characters. When they actually show us the actual process of how the character changes. Like with Geto's mental journey, we were shown what was really going on in his mind, from how troubled he was to how he made his decision to eliminate those "monkeys". It's scary and sad at the same time. I like how Gojo confronted Geto and how it's obvious that it's already too late to change Geto's mind. + I miss wholesome Geto so much.

Not only its too late but Gojo never had to have any opinions on anything So far (because he is so strong- he didn´t develop a reasoning for his morality because he can do anything he wants and nobody would stop him Though he let Geto the only person close in strength to himbe his moral compass (see episode before this when he asks Geto if they should kill everyone after procaliming himself a deity before defeating Toji) But now that Geto chose something obviously terrible Gojo is forced to take a decision himself but because he never put any effort in what he did as a Sorcerer he never had the introspection that Geto had. Questioning himself on if it is worth it to swallow Curses that taste like shit to save people that might not deserve it. When Geto asks Gojo whether if he is Gojo because he is the strongest or the other way around The question is "has your strength allowed you to become as carefree as you are? or is it because you are so carefree that you are the strongest?" Gojo doenst know what to say and then he doesn´t kill him not only because he is his friend but because he doesnt really know yet if Geto is actully on the wrong

A lot people are saying that geto made up his mind, but I disagree and that’s what makes his story even more tragic. He could have been reasoned with but a.) no one picked up that he was depressed and sleep deprived (he lied about it to Gojo saying it was the heat, but clearly you could tell he was lying) and b.) no one argued against his goal, specifically would killing non-sorcerers actually stop cursed monsters? That’s what is hypothesized, because nonsorc leak cursed energy, but so do sorceries when they fight other sorc. or cursed monsters. And there’s also cases of sorcerers cursing other sorcerers. Also as a manga reader you come to realize that Yuki doesn’t understand the essence of cursed energy as much as other chars like Kenjaku or Sakuna do .

I guess I have to keep watching the show - but to me Geto didn’t have that dark energy that characters who go rogue usually have. He was empathetic and kind. Kept Gojo in line and looked after him.
