It is so refreshing to see a review where it’s not “which one is better” but “which one do you like more and why” and y’all pointing out where/how other people may prefer one you don’t. There are “crap” guitars, but serviceable ones really are a matter of preferences. PRS makes excellent quality guitars, I just don’t like them. I knew it was good when you nailed my opinion on glossy necks: I don’t like them when my hand sticks, which may or may not be the case. I think you’re the first person I’ve heard call out the input jack problem. It’s so real. I can’t even buy jacks as bad as they use on

Spot on. I’ll add that I think adding some more use of the trem and a closer look at the bridges would show a bigger difference between these three as well. The stock bridge and tailpiece on my JMJM made it totally unusable as it would pull out of tune instantly, swapping to a fender tailpiece and mustang bridge made a massive difference. The squier vintage tuners also feel like a big step down, and the neck radius is a preference thing that might push people towards one or the other, but all that said all three of these are great for what they are (and their price point) - thanks for the great comparison vid!

That was fantastic - like hanging out with a couple friends (who can absolutely wail!). Love the sounds you brought out of those guitars. Sorry Emily you weren't able to play (hope the finger heals up soon) but have to say Nisbelle your playing was incredible! I really liked how you brought out the J Mascis (the vaunted JMJM) at the end and confirmed that it's really a totally different beast than a traditional jazzmaster. I really love my Classic Vibe JM - question I'm working through is whether to save/trade my way up to the V2 or to upgrade the pups and trem and call it a day :). No wrong answer and in the mean time it's my #1.

@bciecko1 Жыл бұрын
That Squier is really more suited to be paired against the Vintera Jazzmaster verse the Vintera II. Pups in Squier are 60's voiced and the Vintera II has the 50's voiced and it's gonna make them instantly a different flavor and not indicative of which to get or what to expect from Squier vs Fender.

Thanks for the video. Both great guitars, but I’m impressed how the Squier sounds at the price point. You need exponential spending for incremental improvements, but the Fenders seem like less hum/noise from better shielding. It comes down to budget and how important the subtle differences are. The tremolo on my Squier isn’t great… I think Fender and Squier ship with 9s. I replaced mine on my Squier 60s Classic Vibe with 10s and I’m going back to 9 because I prefer the lower tension

Apparently Fenders come with 10s and Squiers with 9s. I played several Squier Classic Vibe models (JM, Jag and Strat) last week side by side with their Fender counterparts and I noticed the string tension feel too. The shop clrk confirmed the string gauge difference. That said, for a casual player the Squier CVs are weirdly and perfectly good. I'd have a very hard time justifying the 300% price increase to get the Fender.

For me, the secret to a Jazzmaster is to use the heck out of the tone knob. My JM bridge pickup sounds amazing with the tone set in the 5-6 range. For the neck pickup, I drop the volume to 9 to tame just a little highs without losing sparkle. The secret to the rhythm circuit is to use it with fuzz 😀

Really great video you two! I enjoyed that so much! I've had a J Mascis JM for a few years and love it. I was thinking of buying a second one and doing a pickup swap, when I saw the 40th anniversary squire go in sale about a month ago for $250. I figured it was worth a shot. And it is fantastic! I'm so glad to have it. Thanks for doing this comparison. You can hear the refinements in the sounds of the Fender over the squire however, I really liked the neck sounds on the Squire better on both lead and rhythm circuits. I'm curious what it would sound like to switch out the bridge pickup on the squire with fender? I also like the matte finish better. For the price difference I'll stick with the squire. Super fun video to watch! And Nisbelle always looks so happy when she's playing, it's a beautiful thing to see that kind of joy.

Pro Audio Star are super cheeky, they circumvent MAP laws by exploiting the "open box" factor - as soon as they open the box, they're free to sell the guitar for whatever they want to, rather than the MAP set by the manufacturer. Here in the UK, we don't have those MAP laws, so our retailers are constantly fighting for the lowest price. Works out well for the consumer, but really stings the stores - especially smaller stores that can't afford to take a hit.

Great and fun video! I think some important differences to consider between the Squier and Vintera are that the Squier has a modern 9.5 radius, bone nut, and truss rod access at the head. Vintera has 7.25” radius, plastic nut, and truss rod access at the heel. For the price of the Vintera you could buy 2 or 3 Squiers which have better specs if not the Fender logo.
