I strongly recomend using the improved clinch knot, if the viewer only makes 4 turns the knot it is still stronger than 6 turns on the basic clinch knot, just saying lol, love your videos

I carry a south bend folding rod holder with a hole drilled and clipped to my surf bag. It weighs nothing and it’s 7 bucks on Amazon. I spike down on the sand where I’m fishing, this way I never have to drop the rod in the sand when I have to unhook a fish. Sometimes I use it to prop up the rod when changing lures. When it’s time to move on, I fold and clip it back.

I use a barrel swivel on both ends, you think that's overkill? I see you just have one opposite the TA clip

The fact you're a LI guy makes this all the better. The bags at Michael's is new, now my wife won't yell at me for using all the Ziplock sandwich bags. Clinch knot over the palomar? Any reason you prefer the clinch? The reel maintenance part of the video is great stuff, without a doubt I learned something. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks man! I appreciate that. I’ve never had an issue with knots slipping on the clinch knot, it’s simple and easy. If I’m tying with leader line lighter than 30lb I’m usually tying an improved clinch knot, and with braid im always using an improved clinch knot or palomar knot, and an fg knot or Uni to Uni as a connector knot for leaders.

Are those mono or flouro leaders? Hey, I've watched a few of your vids. Good tips, especially for these winter months. Maybe you've got a niche here compared to John Skinner or Zeno of SCJ. You're definitely younger than Skinner - sorry John but I also just turned 62 - and you're much more articulate and concise than Zeno who is all over the place and hard to follow. Not to take anything away from their content and know-how, which seems vast, but for Newbies like me a lot of the prep, maintenance, and cost saving tips are welcome and helpful. Good Lookin' Out. Thanks!

Thank you very much for this comment. That means a lot. I’m mostly using mono leaders for my surf gear. When I fish inshore 7 1/2’ rods or less, I’ll use flouro more often then monofilament.
