Wow, there is no way you put that much work into it and then question whether or not you will wear it in public. The dress is awesome and the fit is impeccable.

Amen! And from scratch no help from a pre made pattern you have an absolute gift totally wear it with a navy blue three quarter sleeved blazer and a pocket square made from leftover fabric from the dress just saying and totally make a petticoat with a navy blue lace hem to fall below the hemline of this skirt to ho with it if you wish to add a little more length lol

This video epitomizes why I am such a fan of your channel and so fast! You write permission slip after permission slip for people to mess up, try crazy stuff, be silly, make mistakes, undo their work, and keep trying. Your channel is like the opposite of perfectly curated and I mean that in the best way possible. Thanks for making sewing accessible. I'm about to make my first split side, adjustable waist, giant pocket skirt thanks to you!!

I used a wedge ruler (quilting) to make circle skirts for my nieces, used offcuts of all my favorite fabrics - elasticated the waists with adjustable elastic and they loved them, wore them until they didn’t fit anymore. The oldest girls went down to youngest before it was retired. 😂 really easy lovely skirts

The "It was supposed to be easy but I complicated every step of the way, and is now happy about the result" is so relatable. 😂 It is the reason I start and finish so few projects because it makes even the "easy" stuff daunting. 😅

So pretty!! Also, if you haven't tried a rotary cutter, I strongly suggest you give it a go! It makes cutting straight lines *so* much easier and faster; I usually stack 4-6 layers of fabric together and cut them at once. I found a long Omnigrid-style ruler with a lip at the end at a used shop and it has CHANGED MY LIFE when cutting strips of binding for quilts, or straightening out the edges of blocks before I combine them. The key is to *lean heavily* on the ruler so it can't slip; that's where the lip on the end of my 22" ruler comes in handy by anchoring it to the far end of the cutting mat. If you _have_ tried rotary cutters and determined that they're not for you, no worries! I just like to promote them because they're made such a difference in my sewing.

Might I suggest investing in a cutting mat, quilting ruler and rotary cutter to help you cut straight lines quickly.😊

I am not a sewer. I helped my grandmother for years with her quilts but I was not allowed to use the machine. I took a Joann sewing class and made a very poor pair of pajama pants and I found you because my niece wants to make a dress. I helped her make a pillow a few years ago so she would know the basics of the sewing machine (and I mean basics) and she went off and made a few other projects. Shes 13 and she wants to make a dress out of 4-way stretch material. the pattern is intermediate but I feel like I could manage it but the 4-way stretch makes me want to bash my head against a wall. I have a jersey needle and stretch thread and am using a zigzag and I want to thank you for this video because I have been procrastinating the project because I dont feel like its going to work out but now I know I just need to try. We did get a half yard of the fabric extra to do some test sewing to get used to it. Anyway I love your videos and thank you for sharing your adventure. I dont see myself sewing my own clothes but this and your patchwork sure make me want to try.

When I saw the thumbnail for this in the google search results (looking for examples of quadruple circle skirts, as one does), I thought "meh that doesn't look that great, too much pattern weird shape no way I'm going to like that". READER, I LOVE THIS. The shape? The twirly fullness? The way the fabrics in the skirt are matched to the vertical stripes on the waistband? Meticulous! Gorgeous! 10/10! I like it so much I'm leaving a comment on a youtube video for the first time ever. Great work, thanks for sharing!

Might I suggest if you want to do a longer version in an affordable way, to scope out thrift stores for the faux silk non-sheer sheers and drapery scarves. (Burgundy and gold seem to be ever popular). It’s how I get the majority of my fabric these days for less than $3 a yard.

Yes, wear the dress. As an old survivor of Catholic school, part of me suggests wearing bike shorts underneath, but that is MY problem. I love circle skirts, even though I don't wear skirts anymore (my waist bands slide up my belly to under my bra. Ugh), but my granddaughters, and my friend's granddaughters do, because I sew them for these beloved girls. (And...my 5'7" daughter, and my friend's daughter and daughter-in-law, who are, thankfully, shorter than me.) You said if you have an idea, go for it, and I do. I watch tutorials, like yours and others for inspiration and technical info, but then...I do what works in my head. I made a circle skirt out of 4 fat quarters for my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter and stitched it to sparkly silver elastic; she loves it. But now, with this tutorial? I have SO many ideas for more skirts for my girls! Thank you!

I know this is an old comment, but if you do want something to wear under shorter skirts, there is an amazing company called Snag who makes tights and leggings, including little shorts called chub rubs (I think). I have their leggings in several adorable colours including pink and a pale purple/lavendar. They are amazing for wearing under skirts because I hate my legs rubbing together when it's warm and because they are in cute colours, I don't care if anyone sees them if my skirt isn't quite long enough to cover them! Snag also now make some clothes, as their focus in on sizing that will fit larger sizes, taller sizes, etc, rather than conventional clothing sizes which just seem to be sized up/down without any adjusting (ie: plus sizes are always longer!)
@robinwhite-underwood4678 ай бұрын
@@LovelyLawla Hello! I do have 3 pair of Snag tights, and I love them! No binding around my upper thighs, the panty doesn't go up to my bra like other plus-sized tights. And the price is more than fair.

If I were to ever do this (which I wont) I'd have to have it go at least a palm down from the knee, which wow, I can, as you said, only imagen how much work that would be! I think this sort of project shows you have a talent for sewing and adjacent crafts. You do put in a lot of work, but still, there is a je ne sais quoi that makes your working on this first time (non professionally patterned) dress a sight to behold

Dunno about everybody else but this is arguably as complex as making a pleated skirt given how much bulk you'd have to avoid messing up at the top, and how much of a pain it is to hem curves, much less hemming them to be the exact same length all the way around.
