For $175K I would say that Sculptors Cut seriously underperformed at auction for the rarest sealed N64 game. Should have sold it in 2021.

In my opinion, you should get into this market *because* you love the games. Because you like owning merchandise/memorabilia for your favorite entertainment. Over the course of my collecting journey, I was able to sell off items for games, films or books I no longer liked/loved and made a profit. Able to invest that money into other things I valued more. Did I get rich? No. Nor was I planning to.😂 If people want return on investment, first and foremost, do the stock market or mutual funds.😂

Pokémon titles were a bit of a disappointment after the extremely strong sales the signature prior. Some did very strong though, like the VGA 95 Emerald

Fair and level headed takes from Greg, as usual. Boring? Good for collectors? I like the sound of that! I'm going to hang to every word of this video!
@kilkennybrian91427 күн бұрын
The weird dissonance that goes on is that prices go up when prices go up. Hope that makes sense lol. It’s also the assumption that 70 or even 80% of purchases are moderately informed/intelligent and not just impulse buys. Like there’s a whole lot less strategy to pricing than we assume. Fomo is what probably is primarily driving the modern pokemon card market, for example.

I wouldn't pay $10,000 for the $1.5 million Super Mario 64 as it's not rare but I would pay $10,000 for that sealed Sculpters Cut being a true grail of the N64. As we near the end of 2024 it seems that graded video games are still grossly overvalued. We've seen how this niche collecting market has behaved in rising market conditions of record breaking closes for the DJIA, NASDAQ, S&P 500, Gold, and Bitcoin. There's going to be a lot of losers in the graded video game market when the stock market crashes and corrects 75%-80% at a future date, particularly for the buyers who are overpaying for these games. It will be very interesting to see how a stock market in a correction phase will affect the bids/prices that people pay for these graded games but I have this funny feeling that valuations will crash as the stock market crashes. There's too many catalysts for things to go wrong on the economic front, debt market, geopolitical and military instability, and BRICS economic alliance. For right now the best belle at the ball is the USD but for how long? Overall I think people will realize that they overpayed during the mania phase of the graded video games market. The real pain has not began.

@Odinoian28 күн бұрын
Yeah, I felt the same. Much less wind in the sails, so to speak. $50k, even $10k are huge prices still imo, but we're exiting the "elite investors only" terrain and moving into the "average earner can save and re-strategize collection for this" terrain, which is very healthy. It's what I've stood by since the beginning. Items need to appeal to the people who relate to them, or they won't move or will be prone to failure. Does that make sense? 5:30am at time of writing XD

I think we are in the middle of a 2021 hype cycle all over again, with the exception that there is no juice of money into existence. The markets have been booming simply on ghe basis of what might happen after the US election. The collectible markets haven't totally set in this just yet, although its been happening in the trading card world more immediately than say the video game world. This market usually lags a little bit, which I can see the beginning of 2025 to be a hot start for video games. By the end of 2025 things will calm down heavily and I expect most markets to at minimum stabilize, if not correct or get worse.

@GetTheGreg27 күн бұрын
American money, yes! You could get it graded but I don't think I'd bother unless the condition is truly superb. Graded N64 carts are pretty niche, even if it is sculptor's cut. Hardly anyone wants a graded copy haha. If you can safely remove the permanent marker it would be a good thing, yes! And no problem! Cheers!
