I'm here thanks to Crumb, and that's a huge thanks! I'm currently doing a pentester/SOC engineer course, seeing your story and now finding this vid really set a fire under me. I already have some simple code and documentation for it that I can post online, and I'm gonna implement as many as your tips as I can. I mean, what kind of pentester would I be if I just knocked on HR's door like everyone, right? I'm confident in my communications skills and my cyber skill is improving quickly, I'm hereby setting a goal of getting a job I'm content at, and one day shaking your hand at a convention.

You give me a lot of hopefulness and motivation to be able to do all this. Unfortunately, my medical condition makes any work near impossible to do including the tedious task of posting on social media and whatnot, as it is extremely overwhelming and creates a VERY unhealthy lifestyle for me which I cannot do, but you give me hope since I can instead have it automated and much easier and simpler to do but I have to make it and my development and learning of this will be a great start for me. Thanks

Dany, i just looked at your KZbin channel. Nice tap dancing skills. Maybe you could make a video or two about your tech stuff which could be viewed by someone who might make you a job offer or let you know about a job you might be interested in. I wonder if there's something that would be interesting to you where you can combine dance and tech? Maybe you could create content about that. And maybe that leads to working in that area. "While there's music, moonlight, love and romance. Let's face the music, and dance!"

With you 100% here. As someone how has recruited staff on numerous occasions, what people can actually do and what their approach to a task is almost always trumps paper qualifications. I also agree that taking an unconventional route through parts of the recruitment process can be great - as long as your unconventional route relates to the job!

0:20 Yep. I did IT college course back in the 90s at Uxbridge and then Kingston Uni (just finishing off HND). Then didn't work in IT for 7 years. So by the time I got into IT work all my knowledge was dead and I'd never done AD because it didn't exist when at college. How did I get a job? Luck. Got a IT job at NHS building and rolling out PCs because they were desperate and got hired as a temp. Then learnt most of my knowledge from there for 3 years, then moved on to other 2nd line roles. Never had a cert and still don't.

In 18 years I've never done a single certification, and not had a day off since I left college with a double award a-level in ICT, which as you mentioned didn't really mean anything. There is no such thing as self-taught, you were taught how to do what you do by reading the resources you read, you might have carried out experiments but you would not have been able to do them without first reading what others curated, so in essence you were taught by others, you weren't self-taught. GCHQ pays peanuts, god knows how they are attracting talent, they wouldn't be my first choice of company to apply for, especially since their own servers are insecure...

Everything you say is true and good advice, but I genuinely hate social media. The only one I use is this one, KZbin, for it's content. There simply is nothing I want to post on social media. Probably because I also don't care nor read any one else's. Some I don't even understand what they are for. I'm not saying I don't understand how they work, but I don't get the point of it. For example Snapchat and Facebook. It's all just random noise to me.

This is possible in the US*************** There are other countries where having a bachelors is a hard requirement, so it is super difficult to get a job without formal education.

that's complete BS, the market is saturated with qualifications, you need both education and practical knowledge, there is no need for a special education but without any you'll have a hard stand in the long run, of course you can build a botnet in the age 14 but at least this will lead to problems because you lack of the the knowledge you gain by education ⚠⚠⚠for all: there is no way to fast money, it is always a hard and long way, even for the bad ones. The best way is to prepare yourself for this 50 years by having a usefull foundation. It is always a mistake to beliefe in shit just because it is something you like to hear - Marcus, better inform the people about the mistakes you've made in this case, better tell the truth and no nonsense

I'm going to be real with you here. Tech was good during the pandemic, you could have next to no qualifications and get in and start making bank. Now the lockdowns are over and everyone has been sold this story about how you can study for 6 months and make 6 figures. It's just not like that anymore. Everyone is trying to get into tech and there just aren't enough jobs for everyone who wants one. You'll be competing with people who have computer science bachelors, certificates and experience. It's extremely competitive. If there's a will, there's a way but you will have to work extremely hard and get a very lucky break. Basically, there was a boom period for 2 years where tech was amazing to get into, now it's the bust period where the job market sucks. KZbinrs are still pretending like the job market is booming for views. Healthcare and trades are booming right now I would look into them before committing. It will be much much easier to get into those industries and will pay more. Follow your passion but be warned
