Had a 2013 Ds4 a few years back just the 1.6 diesel and stuck 60k miles on it and loved it....bar the rough ride going over pot holes and bumps. Apart from that it was a brilliant car and would definitely get one again 👍 the new ds4 looks amazing.

A bit disappointed James . If you are going to get away from smaller profit margins this looked like a nice gentle step up. Well maintained , low mileage with proven mechanicals and the body work looked mint.

Had a 2014 DS5 2L diesel manaul for a year back in 2019. Really loved the look (mine was white) but had to move on after a year as the driving position and soft half leather seats made my sciatica flare up massively. Always loved the ds5 looks, though, really has that airplane cockpit feel to it.

There’s no real horror stories with the DS5, they sit on conventional coil suspension from the C4 hatchback. The HDI engines are fantastic, this car being a 2.0 HDI it will have a proper torque converter box, not the automated manual as with the 1.6 HDI. The electrics give next to no issues either. By no means is it a comparable car to a 320d or C220d but it will certainly give less trouble than any of the German saloons.

They went down in price in about 2019 and are now on the way back up probably due to the fact that good examples are thinning and that used car prices are very high at the moment due to industry shortages, I was looking at a 2020 citroen c3 flair Automatic priced at £18500 and a brand new of the same car in a lower spec automatic was £19000, pre 2020 you could get a 3 year old sub 30000miles, 1.6 automatic Astra for less than £10000. Some of the prices are particularly eye watering £15000 for a basic Hyundai i10 automatic (people are probably more bothered about the monthly repayments than the whole cost). Equipment wise cars are much higher spec than they were 3-5years ago, cars are evolving at an extremely fast rate and not necessarily for the better.

Thoes DS5's are good cars except for pre face-lift cars like yours have a jiggly ride sadly. I had a 64 plate which was a manual 163 HDi and it reached 140 in the slip stream of an Aston. That section where the buttons are for the panoramic roof has a sun glasses cupboard on each side the's a silver button on the top on each side. The only thing that car sadly doesn't have is the £2,000 Nappa leather mine example had. However, you won't find a more refined 2.0 Diesel engine I've had Mercedes E classes and thoes HDi's are better. By the Y on the rear number plate the's a Button to open the boot. The (slushmatic) auto is jerky when it's cold and doesn't want to shift up but its OK when it's warm. The kickdown feature is really stupid on thoes autos the diesel pulls so much better on the torque curve without full throttle and shifting up earlier.

Do you ever put any thought into margins on the aggregate? I'd be interested to hear about the economics behind whether you could make a lower margin with more volume and still cover warranty claims and make a profit. Let's say 25% of cars come back and cost 50% of their margin to fix, you could theoretically sell double the cars and knock 25% off the margin and still come out on top. I don't think the maths stacks up there, it's been a long day, but hopefully you get the gist of what I'm interested in.

Citroen have a way of designing highly desirable cars, that are excellent long distance cruisers. My father had a CX, and i always liked it's magic carpet ride, you just never felt the bumps that make other cars shudder. I don't blame you for selling it on via the trade, as much as they are highly desirable, they can develop very expensive faults that only specialists can find. Why do I get the feeling that this car was completely over engineered? A luxury car done right like the old Granada scorpio back in the day makes sense, but this isn't right for some reason. Looks like a spaceship!
