I have been fighting since Noah was 3 years old to get the autism services and help we need in Florida. Not just for him but for Lex and Liam. All it took was 2 weeks here and EVERYTHING is lined up with no waiting lists. Amazing is a word I use often but it still will never describe how it makes me feel to be able to get my autistic kids all the special needs therapy they deserve.

You could buy a big ikea book case to separate your room from Lex's one this would make it a little bit more intimate and you would have tons of bins to put your things away.

I was born with a soft cleft palet, hearing issues, low muscle tone and showed signs of emotional delays so I received Speech, OT, PT, and feeding therapy and I wasn't/am not autistic. Most people assume that is all early intervention is for, and I'm glad you clarified that :) Love your channel!

You are absolutely right on the ABA therapy! Every child is different and it's the same with therapy. Some flourish some struggle... good for you for the way you are thinking and parenting. Early intervention is so important! I have worked ABA in homes with many different little ones, and it is the best thing in the world. Also kudos for moving across the country for what you know is best for your family! I've been watching you for awhile, and I for one think you are doing a great job. 😊

I loved your talk about how a child doesnt have to have a specific diagnosis to receive therapy. Some kids just need a little extra help to get them on track developmentally. Early intervention is so important to give these kids the best opportunities to thrive

So happy for you with the kids services. We are our children’s biggest advocate. It is scary to move and not know if your child will get the services they need. My son is autistic and he is amazing and will graduate from High School this June 2020! I have thought of moving so many different places, but he has had so many people that have done so much and truly cared for him throughout his school years that I was afraid to move and he not get the same support. But with GOD’s grace, and his support system, my son will graduate with a standard diploma and not need a modified diploma. I am just praying they get to do a graduation so he can walk across the stage with his classmates and be celebrated. He’s worked so hard. So I can definitely understand your worries and whole heartily feel the relief that this quick turn around must be giving you. Please keep the updates coming.

So happy things are going so well with getting the therapies for the kids set up. So glad you are getting help for Penelope. As a foster parent I definitely know the importance of early intervention. I know from personal experience that even starting feeding therapy at the age of 3 can be super difficult, so hopefully it will be slightly easier to start Penelope at 1. You are doing a great job.

You all seem to be thriving in Colorado. I totally agree with what you say about Early Intervention. We’ve had our 2 year old in speech therapy since he was about 15 or 16 months because he wasn’t talking. Friends and family told me there was nothing wrong and he’d talk when he was ready but I knew that the sooner you start services the better the outcome. There are now some red flags so we’re now waiting for an autism evaluation (us Australians have to deal with waiting lists too) but that wasn’t on our minds when he started therapy, we just recognized a delay and realised he needed help.

I totally get it. People told me I was crazy for having my son evaluated for speech at 15 months old. He didn’t even qualify for early intervention but the therapist wanted to make it work bc he just needed a nudge in the right direction to get him talking and now at 23 months he’s saying more words everyday. Trust your gut is all I gotta say

I’m 41 years old. I was born with Spina Bifida and for someone with a physical disability, as a child, I was extremely well of...physically. I did things most people had never seen before like roller skating with my crutches. I was born in Chicago and when I was nine my family moved one state over to Indiana and it felt like we had moved to a third world country. Everything was different and my parents had to really fight to get me the services I still needed at that age, like OT and PT. But, for me, what I remember as a kid was the attitudes people had towards me and my disability. In Chicago people loved the fact that I could do so much with my crutches and wanted to help me learn to do more things. It really is disheartening to hear that things haven’t changed much in certain states.

I totally admire you guys for doing absolutely everything in your power to make sure that your kids have the best life they can and to help them prosper!💕 I’ve kind of been in and out on following videos here and there because life’s crazy as you know. Have you happened to take Penelope to a pediatric dentist to be evaluated for a lip tie or and upper or lower tongue tie? I know a lot of the time pediatricians can’t detect ties in infants and ties play a huge roll in eating especially if it feels funny or is painful for the child to swallow! Just curious, thought maybe if you hadn’t it’s another avenue to explore because I can imagine it’s extremely nerve wracking to have a child that won’t eat! I hope the therapies help her!!

I know this video is four years old but I wanna say that I was just like Penelope at that age. I refused to eat I had to do feeding therapy all of it. They even thought about putting in a feeding tube because I wasn’t eating. But I will say after years and a lot of patience on my parents part I’m eating things nobody ever thought I would eat. I’ve become more adventurous when it comes to trying stuff and I’m eating so many things now. I still have some things I’m picky about but it’s nothing compared to what it was as a kid.

I have a genuine question, have you considered that maybe Penelope isn't eating because she's so full on milk, like if she's receiving the same amount of milk as an infant would, wouldn't that sustain her enough to not want anything else. I'm just curios because when I think about myself I wouldn't want any food if I've had milk for every meal of the day.
@OurLANDingCrew8

Of course we have. We have tried not letting her eat any formula before trying to feed her, a little bit of formula, half of it. When I say we have tried everything, we have tried EVERYTHING. She shows an interest in food but the minute it touches her lips or tongue, she freaks out. On good days, we can get her to let us give her 2 or 3 bites. On other days she will literally just turn away and not even get one bite in. Some days she will gnaw on a banana for a little bit, other days she won't even pick it up.

I remember my parents telling me that when I was a child I wouldn’t talk, I could talk but I just chose not too they took me to therapy to see if that could help and even the therapist said that I’m fine talking but for whatever reason I just wouldn’t. Now I don’t shut up 😂😂

That’s how Lex was. They all said he had the ability to talk but just didn’t. Come to find out though he has a language disorder so while that may true for some kids, if a child isn’t talking by a certain age it’s always important to get them early intervention regardless of the reason.

I know this video isn't ment to stress me out but I'm stressed now. My son has no words. And hes the same age as Nellie. .I try so hard to talk to him and tell him new words but he does not react to it.

Many kids don’t talk by 15 months. The no speech isn’t concerning me really. But I also know it won’t hurt either since she already needs an evaluation. There’s nothing wrong with asking for an early intervention evaluation!

Does he point? Nod yes/no? Does he seem to understand you when you talk? Turn his head when you say his name? These were questions the speech therapist asked us when our son was evaluated at 18 months. He had no words but did all of the above. She evaluated his as having no issues, and he is 3.5 now and his speech is fine. He was also very physically advanced, both gross and motor. The therapist told us some kids’ brains work on physical stuff first and then language, some the other way around. Hope this helps.
