If there are questions that remain regarding regeneration, repentance, true salvation, and water baptism you can dive deeper into these subjects with Dr. Richard Caldwell as he exposits the Word of God in the following sermons:
The Life That Pleases God: • The Life that Pleases ...
Description:
In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, a listener has submitted a question regarding their conversion and profession of faith in Christ as it relates to their water baptism. Dr. Josh Philpot shares with us that the listener states they were baptized as a child, later they left the church, but have recently begun submitting to God through their understanding of His Word. Dr. Philpot also shares that the listener has shared that they want to obey the command of baptism, but aren’t sure if it was true the first time; they want to know if they should be baptized again. Dr. Philpot presents this to Dr. Richard Caldwell asking should this person be baptized again, what biblical advice can he offer here.
Dr. Caldwell says the question for the listener is not, should I be baptized a second time, but, have you been baptized? For baptism to be baptism it must follow conversion. What the listener will need to wrestle with is, were you truly regenerate when you professed faith initially? Do you believe that the Lord saved you then? If your conversion was genuine and you were baptized after being saved, then your baptism is genuine and legitimate. If it clear to you that it was not, then you need to be baptized.
Dr. Caldwell gives an illustration of a wedding ring and marriage to help us further understand water baptism. The wedding ring is given and worn to symbolize the actual marriage event that has taken place, it’s not the marriage itself, it does not make us married by just putting it on. So, if you have not yet married the ring cannot have this symbolic significance. Like this, baptism does not make us a Christian, but on the other side of conversion, it speaks to the reality of salvation that has taken place in our life. Therefore what we have to get right with water baptism is that it takes place on the right side of our conversion, not before, but after. To help us even further, Dr. Caldwell also shares his profession of Christ at age 7, and later conversion at 16 along with some of the challenges that he went through in regards to his baptism.
Dr. Philpot shares that the listener has mentioned something regarding reformed theology and being awakened more to the things of God. He mentions that often when this happens, people have become aware of the doctrines of grace, coming to the true knowledge of God and that it’s His saving work in their life. Some of these things that we learn in reformed theology are sometimes things that we never knew, had never been taught or previously understood, but when they become known, understood, accepted, and real to us it quite often feels like a second conversion. But he says to Dr. Caldwell, this wouldn’t necessarily indicate or mean that a person was a non-believer before, would it? Dr. Caldwell’s answer is no, not at all, of course not. He says this is true when we discover some area of doctrine that we were ignorant of, in some cases it is like a second conversion and this is especially so if it’s the doctrines of grace. In these truths, we come to know God in a way that we didn’t know Him before, but it doesn’t mean that we weren’t saved and didn’t know Him, it just means that we vastly underestimated who He is. He explains that when the gospel comes to us and we see ourselves as a sinner in need of God’s grace, understanding that Jesus is the all-sufficient Savior, and we turn to Him in faith, believing that it is through Him alone that we receive forgiveness of our sins and through His finished work on the cross, in His death burial and resurrection that we are saved, it’s in that very moment that we believe, that we are saved. Just because we didn’t know at that time that it’s all the sovereign work of God doesn’t make it any less real. What we come to know in the doctrines of grace is a better understanding of what has already happened in our life, it’s an explanation of what God Himself has done.
A final point of advice Dr. Caldwell offers for the questioner, and for anyone else who might be asking these questions- if you find this to be an issue that continues to nag at you, there is probably a reason. If sometime in eternity, it is revealed that you were mistaken and were truly converted at the younger age, yet you followed through with water baptism now because you wanted to be certain that you honored the commandment of the Lord, you will not have sinned. Wanting to honor God in a baptism that has understanding is not sinful. So if there’s no doubt that you’re baptized today and in doing so, you know what you’re doing and why, that’s a God-honoring action.

Shortly Speaking...! If I have "BAPTIZED" after knowing the love of LORD JESUS CHRIST we have no need to baptized again... And if by mistake or any other cause i have sinned i can repent just by accepting my sin before GOD in the name of Jesus Christ.

It's not that your Pastor doesn't understand. It's that you do not believe what God does in Baptism and what Baptism is FOR. What is Baptism? In short, from the mouth of a child: a bath of forgiveness.

Baptism has nothing to do with feelings. The fact that all these folks get muh rebaptized is simply because it's people believe postmodern lies of the simple truth of Scripture. It's amazing that the guy interviewed in this video is a Pastor. Astonishing but not surprising!

I was baptized very young like 8 years old an I didn't know or care what baptism was I thought it was cool to be in water. I also didn't do with my mom and she was upset so I felt horribly bad I wanted to do it again with her. But I just don't know what God would think. I just want to do it when I actually care and I can actually dedicate my life to him. So the question is should I?

Sister in Christ, I was baptized 10 years ago but reconsider again myself. I'm wondering if we feel the urge fron the Holy Spirit we probably should. We are in the last days and repentance and baptism are hardly being preached at all. I have greater understanding now of Christ and considering it again.

God is holy and can not communicate with sins of any kind! God can not accept you unless you believe in Jesus Christ that paid the price for your sins and even then, you have to repent your sins to Jesus and ask for forgiveness and ask him to cleanse you and through that, and ONLY that can YOU be accepted by God! Edit: YOU can not accept God, he has to accept YOU, after you accept Jesus Christ as your savior.

My entire family was Polish Catholic and my babcia said the rosary daily and was devoted to her faith. She donated a lot of money to the local Catholic Church and when my 16 yr old mother took me to the church to get baptized at just a few months old, the priest told her because she had me out of wedlock, I was born out of sin and was not welcomed to be baptized. I was an innocent baby who had nothing to do with her decisions and did not ask to be here. She left in tears and my babcia went to the church upset threatening to never return or donate $ and to take all friends and family with her ( it was a big group). The priest priest changed his mind but wasn’t happy about it but my mother decided she didn’t want me to get baptized there and to this day I haven’t been but for months now I have been pulled toward Christ reading scripture any chance so get and watching video after video on KZbin about the life of Jesus Christ and what the Bible teaches us. I want more than ever to be baptized I get emotional just thinking about it.

Go and do it but remember it is by full immersion. You may want to be baptised as Jesus commanded, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost Matthew 28 :19 and also as Peter commanded in the name of Jesus Christ Acts2 :38.

Candice you should be baptised by full immersion. I was baptised as Jesus commanded in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost Matthew 28 :19 but also in the name of Jesus Christ as Peter commanded the Jews who had just crucified Jesus. Acts 8:14-18.

Hi Candice, I just got baptized last Sunday and I'm in my 40's. I will tell you this because I grew up with the knowledge of baptism and that is why I waited so long and that is why I will challenge you with this. Have you redeemed your sins to Christ Jesus and accepted him to be your Lord and Savior and do you want to get baptized to testify to people for why you decided to follow Jesus and show your faith in Christ? Those are the basics of baptism and that is why I waited so long but if you can confidently say yes to all of those remarks then I would say, find a church that does full immersion and ask to speak to a pastor. Because baptism is to testify that you believe and are a follower of Christ and as someone else already said, Jesus got baptized at the age of 30. He didn't need to because he was the son of God but he did that to set an example and it has been written in the Bible ever since, to follow Jesus' example, if you believe in him as your savior and chose to follow him then it is written to get baptized as Jesus did.

There is no need to baptize babies, so don't worry about that. Baptism is for BELIEVERS (babies can't believe) and for people who repent and want to follow Christ. It is for the remission of your sins and to receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38) - it's the moment you're born again. So now, since you're an adult and want to follow Christ, you can get baptised to become a child of God.

The scriptures tell us that if you believe and were baptised you are saved, if you do not believe you are damned. Re-baptism is in the Bible but is not necessary if it was done by full immersion after you believed. Peter told the Jews who had just crucified Jesus and would already have been baptised for remission of sins by John the Baptist Mark 1 :4-5 to repent and be re-baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins. Paul told the Ephesians who had been baptised in the way of John the Baptist to be re-baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus Acts 19 :1-7.

The onus of Baptism is on God's work and his Word, not what men 'perceive' it to be. All this experientialism obfuscates the bare essence of faith. Sad. So many folks "get wet' over and over simply because they disbelieve God's initial promise in Baptism.

No one is saved before being baptized for the forgiveness of their sins. Acts 2:38-47. Baptism not only saves it also adds one to the church that Christ purchased with his blood. Acts 2:41-7, Acts 20:28. Baptism also puts one into Christ ( Galatians 3:27-28 where all spiritual blessings are in Christ Ephesians 1:3. The blood of Christ is contacted in baptism by the operation of God Colossians 2:12. Romans 6:3-5. These guys don’t have the biblical authority to rewrite and change God’s plan of salvation! They say that one is saved by faith alone, grace alone in Christ alone. That should raise a red flag for people because alone means by itself so we are not saved by anything alone. There’s not a scripture in the entire Bible that one is saved by anything alone!! Tell them to prove that statement with Bible not opinions! Christ commanded baptism: please read Mark 16:16. Peter teaches that baptism saves, please read 1 Peter 3:20-22. Every New Testament example of salvation included water baptism. Acts 8th proves that! These guys have adopted the Calvinist reformation theory of Saved by faith alone which came from John Calvin who was a member of a denomination ( also not found in the Bible) during the 1500’s reformation period! Faith alone was never taught before then. Please study your New Testament and first century writings like Celement of Alexanderia . You will see that this guys are false teachers. No one can be saved while still in their sins. We need the blood of Christ to cleanse us from our sins and the Bible teaches that that happens in water baptism. There’s not one verse that teaches that our one contacts the blood of Christ by belief only. If it’s faith alone then what happens to repentance and confession!? These are questions that these guys must answer! If they say yes that one must repent and confess then we are not saved by faith alone in Christ alone by the grace of God alone which after faith we need grace and after grace we need Christ so that statement is false according to their own doctrine!! How could anyone fall for that something that’s never found in the Bible! Last but not least, there were no denominations in the Néw testament. There was only one church (Ekklesia, the called out assembly of Christ) called out from the world by the obedience of the gospel, repentance and baptism for the forgiveness of sins and then Christ added those who were saved to his church that he oro( Matt16:18). The church is His body ( Ephesians 5:23-25, Ephesians 1:22, Colossians 1:18. There were no Baptist. Catholic, Lutheran, Pentecostal etc in Acts 2nd chapter! Those are all man made denominations and there’s no salvation outside of Christ!

This is incorrect, you recieve the holy spirit the moment you are baptized, you can never lose it, just ignore it. However if you lose the spirit through death, you need to recieve it again before being fully qualified to enter heaven. I have my answer now.
