Fun Stuff Duane! The more and more I see that tent you have, I kinda want one. Looks modern and old school at the same time. Mammoth is a special place, love the shot of the mountain the next morning, looked like a storm was passing in the distance. Very beautiful.

Hey Steve! I really like those Kodiak Canvas tents. They work REALLY well. That is the smaller 2 person one so not as spacious as my larger one but it worked great. Honestly the wind was howling ALL night and I didn't even notice it. Well the only time I did was after a night bathroom break I had my arm on the side of the wall so I could feel it moving a bit but once I moved away from it it was great. The only bad thing is the weather was crappy the entire time I was out. It was difficult to even boil water because of the wind. I've heard good things about the SpacePod Mini tents but they are about 2 to 3 times more than the Kodiak...

Great video, Duane! I really like that little tent. It looks really comfortable. There are an insane number of trails up there. I'm getting out for my 1st overnight of the year this weekend. Your video inspired me. Be safe out there... glad you didn't blow away :)

Outstanding Steve glad to hear you're getting out there! Honestly man I've been feeling stir crazy not going out. I'm figuring if I don't use every chance I get as soon as fire season really hits I won't be able to. Man that little tent is really great! I mean I love my 10x14 Kodiak BUT that thing is a monster and is way overkill when it is just me. Plus, as I'm sure you can relate to, finding 10' by 14' of clear level ground disperse camping is NOT the easiest thing to do. I was really kind of worried about the wing. I used 6" lag bolts and I was thinking if these things are too small the tent just might come down!

Thanks so much Chris much appreciated!!! On the tent, the tent has to be staked down. It won’t stand if there aren’t stakes. I have been using lab bolts instead of the stakes and it works great. I was a little worried because I purchase some 6” stakes (or maybe smaller) and it was the first time using them for real. My longer lags would have been fine and actually the shorter ones worked good. Check out Kodiak Canvas Tents and you’ll see what I mean.

It was a little cooler on the other side of the divide at 7500’. We woke up to frost twice. What app are you using for those detailed forest maps?

Did you have the same winds on your side? The app is GaiaGPS with the MVUM (USFS), USFS Visitor, and Gaia Topo (feet) layers turned on. It is an AMAZING app and very useful and you can download areas for offline use (with the layers). You can also record your route/track which is great to get OUT when you trying to leave. Plus you can also create routes on the device offline. PLUS you can also review, plan, and edit routes on your computer later. You definitely have to check it out. I do think for some of the layers you might have to pay the annual subscription but I definitely think it's useful.

@@dustyroaddestinations no significant winds. Saturday some clouds rolled in to our area pretty thick and we were in them.. but we drove to Hume and it was clear. I will give that app a try.. I’ve been downloading Google maps which works fairly well but you do not see as many named locations or elevation

I also use google maps but it doesn’t have the layers. A lot of time I have google maps on the head unit and Gaia running on my phone. Let me know what you think. For me Gaia took a bit to start to get comfortable with. So there is def a learning curve with it
