Ridge and furrow increased the surface area and helped the drainage. We lived on a farm in Oxfordshire where my agri contractor brothers in law saw it as their duty to plough it flat then it all got water logged in the winter. We had a small suckler herd from British Friesian x Herefords we reared. The farmer gave us the red ones as they had no value at mart. Nice temperament compared to the Angus. Our neighbour’s Simmental bull was in the habit of jumping the fence to do his duty, so that worked out well.

Kaz, I’m really loving the videos. In your position I really don’t think that there is such a thing as overkill. You should do as you feel is the best possible outcome for your herd with your knowledge. I would expect nothing less. The calf is stellar!!!! The start of a great herd. A beautiful healthy calf, tons of green grass and gorgeous weather (for now) - life is good. Cattle can be a bit ornery - but your three appear to have great dispositions. I have owned a few really cantankerous animals, and it is no fun at all!

Love seeing you work your own cattle. In the USA here there are bison farmers. I cannot imagine any vet really wanting to work on them. Okay I laughed at the loading and that new calf is beautiful. Have you thought of going into breeding show cows.

Bison sounds like a real rodeo! No show cows yet but maybe if I want to make it an even more expensive hobby 😄
