@@StephenJReid I might end up being a bit in over my head, but I will take my (new) tent and try to hike as much of the Welsh 3000s as possible, starting from the north and giving myself maybe 2-3 days. Haven't planned much besides, maybe have a look at some of the small little towns. That's the plan anyway. Fully expect to discover I haven't seam sealed my tent correctly during the first night, having a miserable time in the rain and to heavily overpay for transport and shelter as I desperately try to find a place to sleep for the next few days. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Though I'm interested in whatever solution is more likely to bring lasting long-term peace, no matter where that solution leads. Scares me a bit that the younger don't remember the past, makes them more likely to repeat it. But things are different now. Here's to our wee weird country!

The comments on short videos are so bad that I finally unlisted all of my shorts on the main channel and rarely post any on the channel I set up for shorts. Subscribers and view count from shorts look good, but they don't tend to be regular viewers and aren't likely to watch my regular videos. I haven't actually had death threats, but the utter stupidity of the comments on shorts is appalling. After unlisting those shorts my audience demographics now look like my target audience instead of a random shorts audience.
@StephenJReid Жыл бұрын
yeah definitely happens more on shorts than any other content. But I do think with the right shorts strategy that they can help growth. Although you have a much bigger channel than I do and you think they didn't help at all? I know I got some subscribers to my longer videos from some comments I've seen Unfortunately I made some successful shorts that didn't really reflect what the channel is about. I have a better idea now. Will keep testing.

October of last year, aged 43 (to my shame), I finally started hiking our Mourne Mountains. Yet again, your videos appeared. Yes, I see the trend too. Anyway, in my opinion your videos are at the very top of the pile when it comes to this game, and quite frankly deserve a hell of a lot more recognition than what they get. Sorry you’re having to deal with that kind of stuff, Stephen. Unfortunately I think it’s the nature of social media these days; it has really gone in a very negative direction over the last few years as people get more and more access to different media and the ability to voice their opinions wherever they like. Some platforms are definitely worse than others. Doesn’t matter the topic, the vitriol will flow. Absolutely loved your troll response to the video (just perfect) but it was only ever going to bring them out further. You’re doing the right thing in taking another direction; it’s simply not worth your time or effort to respond. Focus on the awesome community you’re building who actually appreciate the work you produce. 💪🏼

How on earth did you keep your concentration on the running without falling 😅. Great video though and I totally get where you are coming from. I came off Facebook and Twitter because of the abuse and hate. Social media appears to reflect the garbage of humanity these days. Well done and looking forward to your future videos. Regards to Gary too.

Good man. Don’t waste your oxygen fighting the trolls. You get nowhere, the trolls enjoy it, you both end up slimy and they win cause they’ve had more practice. Just enjoy these fabulous places you get to walk and share with everyone

Good to see this vid and I think you're doing the right thing for your own sanity if nothing else! They do say all people were created equal and some more equal than others and I think that says it all. Focus your energy on keeping making great content and for the record the apology was fantastic!

Thanks 🙂 I think we are all in a constant battle against our inner flaws. Some have just given up.

An estimated 50-70% of the population doesn't have an internal monologue. The notion of living without an internal monologue is a fairly new one. Until psychologist Russell Hurlburt's studies started coming out in the late 90s, it was widely accepted that everyone had a little voice narrating in their head.

It's a crazy world out there and getting crazier by the minute. This is the bane of having a social media presence coming from Northern Ireland. I'm sure you can tell from my Avatar dogs abuse comes my way continually but let me explain it like this. When I go to London I realise I'm not British, when I go to Dublin I realise I'm not Irish. Therefore I'm Northern Irish, a breed apart. I love my wee country, it's the most beautiful country on earth. You can never please everyone especially living here. Please keep doing what you're doing. I love your content for showing the beauty of Northern Ireland and getting great tips on how to film, what equipment to use, the banter and the craic is simply brilliant. I wish to encourage you greatly and the best way to deal with the haters is as my mate says "Always assume they're arseholes, until they prove otherwise" You cannot debate with someone not open for debate. Good luck buddy and best wishes and look forward to more content from Northern Ireland, Ireland and abroad. Beauty in a hateful world is unbeatable.

Yeah you must get a ton of it! And you’ve explained yourself well. I think the shared identity of being Northern Irish is the only way our country will ever work as is. When it’s British Vs Irish there will never be peace. Although one thing I’ll say is that most people who don’t live in Dublin, don’t feel like they fit in there. Cities have a bit of an identity of their own. Thanks for encouragement 🙂

The perils of social media😬so sad, keep up the good work, being 63 sadly the number of idiots seems to be the same as always but now they have numerous platforms with which to abuse without consequence.

That apology just got you a new subscriber LOL! I wouldn't worry about the kiddywinkies who can't even spell - I didn't know what some of them were actually trying to say.

Sorry to hear you got comments like that! --------- I think it’s fair to say that every social media platform has a loosely agreed upon etiquette. The cliff hanger video isn’t really within the norms on tiktok etiquette. People don’t expect to have to go to a different app get a resolution to a video. Whether that’s a fair or not is mainly irrelevant - tiktok has been around for quite a while now it’s just the etiquette. Obviously some have a strong reaction to that and some people take that to far extremes.
@StephenJReid Жыл бұрын
Yeah to be honest I probably won’t use that format on TikTok again. It did work though I got a ton of extra views on KZbin because of it. But it’s not worth the negativity it creates.
@PaulCrouse Жыл бұрын
Hey Stephen. Humans, eh? Thanks for posting this. I stepped away from KZbin for a while (you know... life happens) and considering coming back, so I thought I'd look you up. I am glad to hear you talking about the challenges of being a difficult people -- in a nuanced way. Life is complicated and messy. It is good to engage with people who have different ideas and world views -- but abuse is totally different. Keep doing what you are doing. BTW, that's an amazing place. Cheers!

It’s that fine line between being open to discussion and just opening yourself to stress you don’t need.
