getting dressed for a day in 1872. Wrapper, day gown and ball gown

In this video I get dressed in the various outfits a upper class lady would wear in a day. As I get dressed I go through the. different items and their purpose in her wardrobe.
In the morning we get to see her put on her wrapper for laisure wear around the house, then during the day she switches to a daytime polonaise for a promenade around town and maybe a visit with friends and then in the evening she changes her hair to a fancy updo and dons on her ball gown for a night of entertainment and dancing.

I was amazed to discover that silk was so popular. Even today it is expensive, I can't imagine how much more expensive it was back then. I thought you did a good job on taking us through the different outfits a lady would wear throughout her day.

The thing is that people would buy less and better quality and remake and refashion things. In general ultra cheap clothing is a very new thing, people would spend more on average on clothes but silk wasn't necessarily more expensive than now since it was much more widely used and produced in so many different varieties and qualities

Could a polonaise be used as a ball gown and why not?

No, ball gowns are short sleeve or sleeveless and very formal dress, a polonaise is less formal and has either elbow length or long sleeves

They don't seem to done much by modern costumers, I think partly because of the popularity of the fishtail bustle, partly I suspect because people don't realize how easy these ones are and still give an excellent shape

The wearing or making the clothing? 😅 because just the multiple outfit changes and hairdos a day is work day onto it's self! No wonder ladies would need to go to the seaside to rest their poor nerves! 😅🤣
