I remember receivers like that one in Nashville Ark. where you needed to be a magician rather than a truck driver to spot your rig. I was better than average at backing a 53' trailer, but some places were designed by folks that didn't have the first clue. Or the location was just flat wrong. But I was careful, never got in too big a rush, and managed to end my trucking career without a disaster. Like a carpenter that measures twice and cuts once I looked twice and backed once. Narrow country roads another of my non favorite things. It looks like that could have been a trip you'd rather not have had. They happen. Durnit.

Hey Jack you are a great driver! I really appreciate the way you explain the trucking world to people and its refreshing not to hear the swearing that a lot of truckers do. Ive been driving semi for 39+ years and its still fun! you are definitely a good example of what a professional driver should be. Do you ever get through Tulare, California ? I used to haul milk from Minnesota to California back and forth for years I love California but could never talk my wife into staying out there for more than a few weeks at a time. keep that rig of yours between the ditches and may the wind always be at your back..... God Bless

Me and my family stayed in Nashville earlier this summer. We went to the diamond mine and dug in the mud. All backwoods and some tall tall trees. While there I met a trucker and asked him "do you know Indiana Jack? He is a real good man and makes the best videos" he said he would check it out.

I been mechanic 37 years, Jack so worried about nails stop @ a real good welding supply store and buy a good name brand magnet that can & will use a string or rope, More money buys stronger better magnet.. Cheapest I bought one week ago for $17.oo. Just walk around holding it close to ground with rope where you think metal or nails are in your path, and it should pick up 99% of them plus whole lot of any other small metal. I am sure I will get smart ass reply's as before but this works!! better than buying tires. You might look strange doing that but beats buying new tires.

Many states require kingpin settings on sliding tandems due to weight concerns on bridges, 40' from kingpin to center of axle group is common. As Wal-Mart began its exponential market expansion in the 1970s mid sized speciality retailers, particularly in the Midwest simply disappeared. Hot Springs, Arkansas is an area rich in history dating from the Civil War to the hot springs themselves great for arthritis and just rejuvenation. North Little Rock has some good truck stops I-40 exit 161 Petro last time I was there was stationed police presence in Pilot across the street. Think it's unusual especially with density of truck stops in this area.

Very nice video. We still have a Western Auto branded store between Midland and Odessa, TX. Right next to a Car Quest place, all owned by Advanced Auto Parts. Funnily, if you google the Car Quest store, it shows it and asks if you want to shop for parts there online. Hit OK and it directs you to Advanced stores with no option for the CQ store you wanted lol. Not really way to increase sales at the CQ store lol. Needless to say, I got my parts at another company. Another great video, Jack. My hat is off to you for getting into some of those hole-in-the wall little southern towns. Reminds me of when I used to work in western-Kentucky. I am not 100% sure, but I believe that Western Auto is now known as AutoZone or maybe it is Advance Auto Parts. In any event, they have (or had?) a huge distribution center off of Route 42 near Delaware, Ohio. I haven't been there in years, but distinctly remember when it was a Western Auto distribution center. I think that Jeg's now has a distribution center about a mile or two away from them. in reality Jack, when your ELD stops working, you are to start paper logging immediately...so yes, you should always have current logs to show DOT if and when they request them... that is why every truck is required to have paper logs at all times in your truck...
@chetgerber64017 жыл бұрын
Chris Helgerson that's easy to say..back up with paper logs. Previous 7 days, how long it took to drive all those places, how long you were there, when you started every morning, and when you signed off for the day. If I understand the rule, that may take 2 hours to figure all that out. Trucking is so different every day.
@ChristopherHelgerson7 жыл бұрын
you have to start paper logs while your ELD is down, it's the law...as far as his previous logs, he should be backing them up to a storage device...you'll need them for the IRS if they decide to get nosy too..

If you have problems with your iPad/iPhone do this, hold down the home button and the on/off button. Wait until the screen goes black and the you see the Apple logo let them go. This is a hard reset you should do this every time you upgrade the operating software or have a issue with the iPad/iPhone. If you are using a Mac after every software update restart for when you have any issue. Restart, when you hear the tone press command-option-p-r. After five tones let them go. This solves most issues.

Western Auto was started in 1909 by Mr Pepperdine in Kansas city, MO. Same guy that started Pepperdine University. Then another company bought them in the 60's. Then Sears bought them. Sears sold them in 1998 to Advanced Auto Parts. Some stores still use Western Auto name illegally but Advanced Auto has never cared to do anything about it.

Love your videos Jack. But it looks like I wont be driving again myself. Once you leave the industry for awhile like I did. It was for personal health and family issues. It's basically impossible to get back in. All Companies want is someone with a lot of experience , or someone right out of school. Have had my CDL 10 year's. But haven't driven for 5 going on 6 now. So no one will touch me. Would love to get back in. But it's clear it wont happen. I guess once my med card expires in late Jan. I'll Just go back to a Class-A. Good luck, and be safe.

Little late on this, but....Western Auto was bought out by Advance Auto Parts. Subsequently, 99% of the Western Auto stores in the U.S. were closed, or converted to Advance Auto locations. A VERY limited number of U.S. locations were allowed to stay open as independent franchises. Yet, in Puerto Rico and the Philippines, the Western Auto stores have remained (as of 2016).
