As an E-4 I was a COL’s aid in Iraq and ran to grab us lunch before going on movement. I was carrying two to go plates and cups etc. This Captain chewed my ass hardcore for not saluting as he approached..... So at dinner I got 15 of my buddies and I had them space about 3 meters apart and walk past this dude on his way to dinner. At the very end of the line I rendered that glorious salute and could see the utter disgust on his face from having to move arm so much.

I was in the Marine Corps air wing, had to do a fod walk every morning, and i was in charge of the fod program, to make a long story short, out of like 300 marines, only 10 showed up, and when the paper worked was being routed, i called the whole command out, and got page 11, and a month of extra duty, and chewed out by every E-6 and above for like 2 days straight. P.S. the good thing that cam from it is i didn't have to run that program anymore.

I used to be in Marine Air Wing. I know what you mean. I was in charge of the shop's tool program though. I was the lowest ranking NCO in that position doing most of the work. We didn't get any hits on the major inspections when I was in charge ,but somehow one of my Staff Sergeant's got recognized at the award formation. Long story short, later on I only made one minor mistake and I got replaced by the guy that said something about it. I was a little irritated. Since it was my first mistake ,but I was kind of glad. Because that's less stress for me.

If you want to go the officer route, just don't let it go to your head. A lot of officer's, especially the ones who were never enlisted, go straight to power-tripping as soon as they put on the uniform. Enlisted will always give the rank respect, but if you think the rank's what gives you authority rather than doing your job and helping out everyone around you, you'll never have the respect of those you serve with.

I had the same thing happen at Gettysburg range on Leonard Wood in basic. General comes out and I didn't salute because it's a simulated combat environment. DS goes completely off, XO asks why I didn't salute and I told him in a combat environment I'd have marked a general officer for enemy combatants. He kicks my battle buddy and I loose and talked to my commander and 1Sgt. That DS pulled cq for like a month straight. 🤣

Back when I was enlisted, my Plt Sgt had a thing. If you (the TC) threw a track on an FTX you'd get CQ duty the next Saturday night. Well, three FTX's in a row his tank throws track so, true to his word, he does CQ duty. But, that's not the story. The story is, he figures out myself and the other enlisted TC in the platoon were sneaking into the motor pool and loosening his inside end connectors. The smoking was epic, followed by several weeks of Saturday CQ.

Man, my first wife was pregnant during our annual training, At the time I was a 60 gunner, of course we had 9mm for side arms. I ended up leaving early to go home for the birth of our first child. Everybody got back and they were missing a 9mm. Nobody knew where I lived. The other gunner drove to my hometown, and the local PD didn't know who I was. All the guys were locked down. But, no shit I took home a 9mm.

I had a sham job when I got promoted to E4. I got to work 27 hrs on. 2 days off. I had my own DOD security guard and govt vehicle. For 1 year. I rarely saw my squad leader or anyone from my chain of command. So one day I go to the class 6 and pick up a 40oz and food at the chow hall. I got back to the ASP and nothing was going on. My security guard told me. He would wake me up when someone stopped by. I started drinking and passed out. I woke up to a full bird kicking me off my cot. The 40oz bottle smashed and I rolled all over it. I was cut up and bleeding. This Col was a Ranger and he saw my last name and said. “ I heard of you” 6 months before that day. I found 2 of his soldiers passed out in a bunker from the forklift running and it displaced the o2. I pulled them out of the bunker and saved their lives. I was put in for a Soldier’s medal. All I got was a Arcom. The Col told me he told my commander it was bullshit and what a dirtbag he was. As I was at attention the whole time. The Col told me I have 2 choices. An field grade Article 15 or I have to do what he wants for a weekend. A few weeks later my 1sgt and commander call me in the office. They told me I had orders to help the Rangers for the weekend. They could not understand why they wanted me to help out. When I showed up at the Ranger bat. The Col made me go out to a rifle range with him. I had to wear my class A uniform and do the running man. I did a 20 mile roadmarch and had to roll in the mud many times. Then I had to do a police call back at the range. It was a long weekend. My class A uniform was trashed. At the end the Col thanked me and told me to never fuck up again. I saluted him and went back to the barracks and slept 18 hrs. A few weeks later I got a AAM for that weekend. The award was for my help at a range and I was in charge of the operations of the safety and range etc. For about a year this Col would visit my ASP and look for me. He would bullshit and he told me he knew it drove my command nuts he knew me and after each visit. The Col would talk shit to my commander and 1sgt. I paid dearly when the visits stopped…

I never once got smoked in basic/AIT individually. Only the times we got smoked as a platoon. I did get 2 article 15s, one in AIT and one at a reserve unit, but never smoked. AIT article 15 was for a fist fight with the platoon leader, unit article 15 was for firing a blank at an officer cadet and setting his MILES gear off (he asked what the first thing I was going to do in a combat situation was 💁). Guess when I decided to go rouge I just went way past smoking level and went straight to the big leagues 🤔😂

Then I had to strip and wax battalion. An E6 made me do it but the last laugh was mine. It was a permanent flooring so it need not be stripped. Long story short the E6 took over my mowing duties. I didn't get smoked but I got chewed out by a captain for calling him out his bull shit. I had a soldier that was suffering from shingles and blacked out from pain, collapsed and hit his head on a door frame. He went to the emergency room and they told him to go to his aid station. The captain in charge said the earliest opening he had was in two days. I got wind of this and was furious. I got the green light from my chain to go over his head and go to the brigade surgeon. We told the BS that he was suffering badly and had hit his head and hasn't even been checked for a concussion and that the aid station was giving him the run-around when he needed to be seen immediately. The BS was pissed. My soldier was seen that day and I accompanied him to his appointment. I was then chewed out by the captain for going over his head, but I didn't care a lick as my soldier got the care he needed.

When I went to permanent party we had to lock our doors ourselves, and I kept forgetting to lock the damn door. If the MPs walked thru and checked a door, and it was unlocked, then someone was getting written up. I ended up having to mop and wax the CO's office in the middle of the night because I couldn't keep the door locked. Guess what I did after I finished waxing the CO's office and left the office. Yep, I didn't lock the damn door. Top was pissed. However, the CO said that he stopped in during the night and he was pretty sure he left the door unlocked. I have no idea why he said that, but 40 years later I'm still grateful that that Captain saved my ass.

A drone crashed outside my Col office. The general showed up and the division csm put me in for promotion. The investigation determined it ran out of gas but the promotion ceremony was still awkward

My story at basic. It easy to wake me up, so my MTI do night inspection and in half sleep I thought EC messing with the loocker. I pop up and yell "the f* are you doing, people need to sleep here". Then I saw MTI hat, I play dead immediately. My MTI go to check me right away but he didn't say anything and let me get away with it.

I got smoked first time in basic as an Mp the drill sergeant had a cast on his leg and he was taking chow orders and I bumbled my words and he went off on me and I had to smoke myself (God bless him he was killed on the night infiltration course from a malfunction on a 60) God rest his soul RIP DS Murillo

Please if u can say a little something about DS Murillo he had a lot of kids, it was weird, we were going through the night infiltration course or as the kids call it “nick at night” course, low crawling under the barb wire and got up to the freddys and this big stadium lights cam on, we stopped, we saw an FLA go down the range road, the lights went out again, our DS told us to get up and start marching, we marched back to our barracks and DS were quiet, they told us to go to bed, we woke up surprisingly the sun was up, alpha company put away our field gear and the CO and LT told us to go to the benches in the back of the company which was weird since we weren’t allowed to sit on them for the whole cycle

Funny, I was in Ft. Campbell doing a reset mission and apparently someone stole night vision goggles and was trying to sell them at a local pawn shop. Too bad it was easy to figure out which one pair was missing.

There seems like few active and veterans here in the comments, I wanna say thank you for serving. Could any of you explain the not saluting while carrying a weapon? I understand the not saluting if it were a combat situations but would figure that would be the same weapon or not.

You salute with your firing hand. You are supposed to keep that hand free when armed. Otherwise you may as well throw the weapon away for as much effect you will have if crap goes down. Similarly, some areas like motor pools are "salute free" areas. Having to divert your attention to officers combined with rapid movements leads to fatal accidents. But generals don't give a damn. To be fair, their presence is usually announced ahead of time.
