GETTING LOST IN BRAZIL 🇧🇷 ROADTRIP TO CHAPADA DIAMANTINA

We are driving on a little roadtrip around Brazil. Today we leave Itacare and drive into Chapada Diamantina, an area of Brazil that looks nothing like the rest of Brazil. We are trying to get to Lencois. On the way, Google maps take us to the wrong location and our car cannot drive any further. Just be careful with Snakes And scorpions at Chapada. This is the time of scorpions get our of the plumbs. Só always check the toaliet before sit. Go to the Buracão Waterfall in Mucuge. The Way to Mucuge is amazing. It is time of the butterflies mating season And the way is full of yellow butterflies.

Hi guys, you should've selected "paved highways (roads) only" on the GPS. Chapada is a very famous and touristic place, so the roads to get there are very good. The thing is that the gps sent you to the rural roads cause it's faster ( you problably selected that option to get there as soon as possible). I recommend the next time u go through the paved highways and avoid rural roads. The trip will be a bit longer but it's safer and you'll be able to enjoy the view.

Big tip: never do that again. Brasil has one of the worst tourism infrastructure in the world. It hardly pays off traveling long distances by car.

Couple of tips about road trip in brazil: if you're traveling a long distance way, put the name of the city you want to go to on the GPS, not waterfall or national park. Then, when you reached the city, search for your final destination. The "BR" roads (e.g., BR 101) are ours federal highways, and in the mosts states, they are the best options. Besides that, you cold take the states roads, like "BA" roads (e.g., BA 148) in Bahia state or "PE" roads (e.g., PE 060) in Pernambuco state. I do not recommend going if it's not one of these options.

Hey, guys. A tip that can be useful on Brazilian roads: State road names start with the state initials and then a random number (e.g. if you are in Bahia, BA220, or if you are in Pernambuco PE120, Rio de Janeiro, RJ116 and etc); federal roads start with BR, like BR101, BR040... Road conditions are likely to be much better in there. In the interior of the country there are MANY unpaved roads like the ones you took. Sometimes these will be the only options for isolated places. But to travel between cities the best choice is State and Federal roads.

Um conselho: quando forem viajar no interior do estado, não coloquem como destino no google as cachoeiras, rios, praias e etc. Primeiro coloque como destino o nome das cidades que ficam próximo ao local que vocês querem ir, e dessas cidades é que devem ir para o destino final. Hello couple, when you are going to plot a route to a new destination, look on google maps for the nearest city, so you will be guided to follow paved roads. If you put them on the GPS, waterfall, mountain, park, river, lake, you will throw them on bad roads, secondary roads, which are terrible and without movement. Para ir para Chapada tinham que ter pego a BR 242 uma ótima estrada. Com certeza pegaram a BR 030, umas das poucas Brs sem asfalto e abandonada na Bahia. Vários trechos nesta BR nem existe.

A BA 245 é uma opção. O asfalto está novo. Entra por Milagres na BR 116 e vai até a chapada por esta BA. Muito boa mesmo e ainda evita os caminhões da BR 242.

Choose paved highways, they might look like a longer way, but the dirt roads are so bad they're the ones that will take longer because of how much slower you'll be going. Also remember Brazil is about the size of the USA without Alaska, so if you venture in the middle of nowhere again, might take a long time to get back in track.

Hey Lindsey, I'm Brazilian and I went through the same situation as you. I live in Belo Horizonte and was going to a city called Ubá. In Brazil we currently have good paved roads in almost the entire country, but GPS usually traces rural secondary routes. I spent the whole day driving on the dirt road lost with a sedan bumping like crazy ahah. As the friend said above, try to focus on the routes that appear to be the main ones, which pass through relatively larger cities. I learned this the hard way.

Definitivamente eles não foram pelo caminho mais usual, das vezes que fui a chapada (de ônibus) nunca passei por estradas como essas. Seria legal eles priorizarem as principais estradas para evitar perrengues, mesmo que isso torne o caminho mais demorado.

You need to ASK FOR ADVICE before getting in your car to Travel in these REMOTE Locations, you can get in a lots of trouble just embarking in Trips without knowing how to get there before and safe tips . Google Maps DON'T KNOW everything about it theses Locations LOCALS DO, so ask before taking the Trips is always recommended. Be safe guys. 😊💗

São muito aventureiros ou bem louquinhos kkkkkkkk . O Brasil é enorme e muitas vezes de carro , a viajem vai ser assim mesmo pelo interior , longas distâncias no nada e estradas de terra . Acho q eles se hospedaram na famosa kitinet kkk kkk. Barato é assim mesmo . Esperando anciosa o próximo vídeo. Cuidado e planejem muito bem pois aqui não é como na Bolívia , cabem varias Bolivias dentro do Brasil . A União Européia cabe dentro do Brasil. No Brasil a natureza é bem preservada e por isso teram muitas vezes zonas no nada com vegetação onde parece não ter fim e os postos de gasolina podem estar distantes . Sempre garantam ter gasolina pra não ficaram na mão, garrafas de água e barras de cereais pra caso ter fome no carro. Então muitas vezes terão q planejar uma parada de descanso entre o local q estão e o seu destino final , pq pode durar até dois dias de carro . Informar-se é sempre preciso , certifique-se de ficar em lugares seguros . As vezes o mais barrato não é tão seguro assim.

There is no need to use secondary roads without asphalt at all times. Use the TomTom Go Brasil GPS is free and you don't need an internet signal to use it or use Google Maps which is also very good. But for trips I prefer TomTom Go Brazil as it provides better and safer roads.

True. Alex, you are puting yourselves at real risk in some videos. And I bet both of you are feeling stressed having to deal with this kind of crazy logistics. Spend more choosing less places to go. Its all about the trade off between quality and time. And do the planning along with professionals or foreigners who had already been or live in the places you go. You are missing lots of things just because the language barrier. Even the food you have been trying. Almost nothing of regional experience.

The Chevrolet Onix can use any mixture of fuel, E27 gasoline or E100 ethanol. You can choose by cost or to be ecological. If you choose by cost, you can multiply the price of gasoline to 0.7 and check the result. If is less than ethanol, would be cheaper to use gasoline because the fuel consumption is less than ethanol. If you want to help the world to reduce CO2 emissions, please, use always ethanol because it is 100% natural and if you consider all the cycle of our ethanol fuel, the CO2 emission is zero. ( Yes, we don't need electrical cars to be ecological here). The other advantage of E100 Ethanol is provide more power to the engine and the engine doesn't lose power in warm weather. It is very good to drive in the roads that you need power to pass other vehicles in safe.

yes but also you can find legal birds that's why it's hard to keep track of it, you need to get closer to see if they have identification and ring, in the south is very common in interior cities do have people walk with them and meeting with other people that have birds, like a pet animal and they are legal. they even have some sort of competition of birds, but again, not every bird you will see in cages with people walking them, most who have them illegally don't walk with them on the road at least where I live because cops will get them.

People have said several times not to use Google Maps but you continue to use it. For those areas outside the big centers, you have to do a previous study of the route, talk to the residents of the surrounding areas about the best routes, or look for information online. Then plot a better path and follow it. The experience will be much better than simply defining your destination on Google Maps.

If you guys have some extra time, you definitely should come visit the south, there are great places down here, specially at Santa Catarina, witch capital is an island with more than 40 different beaches (its called Florianopolis). If you plan doing that, let us know

But I noticed that they like of wild places, I noticed in some videos that they like to show how poor is our country as well, not with words, but with images. Guys you were far away , you could get lost , this place is vast and there is no people, even the small cities around , most of them dont stay there , they go to bigger cities. There is no gas station , anything , there is farmer around , some goes with small airplanes or two bigger cars , in case of something happn , there is help , cars can be broken easily . This place is savana and very vast . Dont forget Brazil is very big , every place , and region is very different

@@TheTravelbum WOW!!! Lost in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country. That´s what I call a real adventure and exploration. It´s getting better than "Naked and Afraid" - the TV show. Hehehehe. Sometimes, the same thing happens to me and my car is not a 4x4. Hehehehe! Some dirty roads in Brazil are so challenging that you need a badass off-road vehicle. Even a 4x4 SUV (too heavy and comfortable) is not up to the challenge. I have a tip for you: In the city of Lençois, on the top of the hill, you can find "Hotel de Lençois". The owner is Rebecca from Illinois. She has been living in Lençois for forty years and can give you precious advice. The hotel has a website and it´s easy to find. It´s a very nice hotel and one of the oldest in the region. She´s very friendly and will be glad to talk to someone from her country. Her husband is Brazilian and they met when he was doing a doctorate in Michigan and she was getting her master's degree. Have fun in Lençois and vicinity!!!!

Eu já passei um perrengue gigantesca indo pra Itacaré. O maps mandou eu sair da BR e ir direto pra Itacaré, ao invés de dar a volta por ilhéus, que seria 1h a mais. Só que a estrada mais curta foi ficando cada vez pior. Teve uma hora que parecia que tava dirigindo em Marte. E de noite. Sem internet. Só que era aquele momento que não dava mais pra voltar. Enfim. Tô vivo

Caution!!! You are taking too many risks !!! Do not underestimate the size of Brazil because you can get lost in a remote place and unable to call for help !!! It is good to have a guide of the region to help you have a better experience !!! Not all Brazilians risk exploring distant places without having the proper knowledge !!!

We made all kinds of those road mistakes in Australia. We had a Toyota Camray and everyone else had 4x4 utes with water jugs, extra tires and gas all over the roof. Flash floods and sand dunes in a front drive car in the middle of the 🏜 suck but made some of the best memories I have. Dude, big LOL for the beautiful Chandler!

guys, you should have asked someone about the best way to get there and checked it on google maps before heading to Chapada. Check the routes on google maps before leaving next time. Take at look at alternative routes etc.

Be cautious with getting dirt roads to travel long distances. Specially up north where the infrastructure is not the best. You may be more lucky driving freely in the south countryside.

@Canela Veia Chapada diamantina é bonito sim, mas ainda assim não chega aos pés da região de Porto Seguro, Arraial D'ajuda, Corôa vermelha, Caraíva... E sim, achei horrível Itacaré e essa estrada que eles estavam. Itacaré é um lugar sem brilho. Em Porto Seguro e Arraial D'ajuda, é tudo colorido e as pessoas são alegres.

I've been watching the videos of your trip here in Brazil and think that you've been doing a great job of getting to know a lot of different places that sometimes most of us Brazilians don't even get to visit during our lifetimes. Congrats! That being said, I'm sure that you've read the big amount of comments here talking about road trips safety, tour guides, etc... But please, continue to keep in mind that you are starting to access remote areas of the country and Brazil is an immense place with a lot of different cultures and levels of infrastructure development, so be careful about your safety, the places you sleep at and the food that you eat. Sometimes the cheapest option isn't always the best. Thanks for the great videos!

Hi Alex and Lindsay! I really don't understand how you guys ended up in that kind of road. The main google maps suggestions have no dirt roads at all! Try to be more careful on the next road trips, double check the route, use the google street view to see the asphalt conditions and if it's possible, ask for help here or in instagram, looks like you guys have a great brazilian audience, that will kindly help you to avoid those troubles.

If you choose by money, you can multiply the price of gasoline to 0.7 and check the result. If is less than ethanol, would be cheaper to use gasoline because the fuel consumption is less than ethanol. If you want to help the world to reduce CO2 emissions, please, use always ethanol because it is 100% natural and the CO2 emission is zero. ( Yes, we don't need electrical cars here to be ecological here).

Wow, guys, that was scary, very scary, you could´ve run out of gasoline... You need to do more research - ask people around before you hit the road... many farms all over Brazil have waterfalls... Google is not a good reference, even in the US... Get local maps, talk to people - good hotels have bilingual receptionists (no need to check-in, just ask for information, they´ll help). Chapada Diamantina is a tourist place, tons of tour buses and vans go up there, so that road couldn´t be it, clearly... You also gotta get some supplies and leave them in the car -- spoons, knives, forks (not the plastic ones, but real silverware - you can get two sets for about 5 dollars), plastic cups, lots of water, snacks, some canned food and a pot to cook something in an emergency, matches (get these supplies at a grocery store to save money) -- a minimum survival kit, if you´re traveling in unknown roads in a strange country, you need to be prepared. Actually, I went on a field trip to the Canyons (Bryce Canyon, Arches Park, Monument Valley, and the Grand Canyon) with a French guy and an Australian guy back in the 90´s - we met at a hostel in Las Vegas - and we took exactly that in the car, they were very useful, especially on the way back that we couldn´t stop because of the time to return the rental car... The French guy was excellent on the roads, he had old fashioned paper local maps and was very experienced - he was traveling the world on a motorcycle, but for the canyons, decided he would do it in a car - hence two guests to help pay for the rental.... Anyway, good luck on your next adventure, but please, do not take roads that you´re not sure are safe... Ps. Also, be careful with the coxinhas in gas stations or convenience stores, they sit there all day, sometimes they get spoiled, choose some crackers or packaged snacks, then find a clean place for a full fresh meal... in the south, the safe one is always pao de queijo in padarias or kiosks.... up there it gets complicated because it´s too hot...

Hi Guys!! i'm watching all the videos... they are very very nice!! Well i would like to suggest to visit the Minas Gerais state ('mother" of the Pão de Queijo..), more specifically the SERRA DA CANASTRA NATIONAL PARK. The park stays in São Roque de Minas city (there is the mainly entrance of the park, because there are another 3). In this area you can visit one of the most beautifull waterfall of Brasil, is the Casca D Anta waterfall, in the São Francisco River (also one of the most important rivers of the country, which starts there, in the park and finish at in the corner of Bahia estate and Pernambuco estate).. In this city you can also prove the Canastra cheese (for me, is one of the best of Brasil), which is the natural of this area (only in there is the original)...Tou can Go to visita farms that produce cheese (in special the Canastra Cheese)

So the same thing happened to my friend in Ireland. Maps took him through a very bad road that was full rocks and holes everywhere, not really a road. Had to back track and checked maps and it was set for scenic or something like that. I'm sure it won't happen again but check map settings 😅. Have a safe trip, and stuff like this happens when traveling
