Basically the only part of this that only applies to splat bombs is the ability to roll them. Fizzy bombs still apply zoning pressure even if they may not be lethal every time. Suction bombs may explode a little too slowly to start an engagement with, but you can still play off the displacement if they've been there for a second. Even a toxic mist applies the same pressure to leave the area, just without doing damage. Obviously a sprinkler doesn't apply this kind of pressure and a burst bomb is going to be used a lot differently since it explodes on impact but these tips go a lot further than they're being given credit in the comments.

please stop saying last ditch effort is broken/needs a nerf. We had it for the entirety of splatoon 2 and it was fine then and it's fine now. If anything the dev team should take the smash bros approach and BUFF weaker abilities. Nothing can ruin a game quicker than an overcompensating nerf. Numerous abilities have been completely removed from being relevant in the game despite still being in the game because of nerfs, and don't think as a content creator they aren't watching your stuff.

I know that some of this is relevant for all bombs but I feel like maybe the title of the video should be explicitly splat bombs. I'd like to see at least a bit about using suction bombs to lay traps or autobombs for disruption and area denial as I feel like those have quite different use cases to splat bombs.

I agree, but at the same time you can extrapolate from here on the other form of bombs without much issue. This should make people think about how their bomb of choice functions in detail and how to take advantage of that.

A fun tip I learned recently when it comes to suction bombs is in rain maker you can sometimes mess with your opponents if they get to one of your checkpoints by throwing it and it might be a good defense before engagement with the enemy it's mostly due to the arc

ALSO I forgot to say but being super pedantic the radius of the bomb explosion doesn't change in the corner, the blast radius is the same but it the diameter of the explosion and area of effect is reduced.

It's kind of funny how splat bombs in splatoon are used almost exactly how sticky bombs are in Team Fortress 2: zone control and making enemies move to be more advantageous for you to attack with your main weapon. They can kill, but it's often more effective to use them to make it easier for your main weapon to kill.

The Fizzy Bombs are excellent for cornering or putting pressure on others, especially in tight spots where it is hard to run away, and since they leave an ink trail like the curling bomb, makes it even better for charging at objectives. They're also pretty good at covering turf when charged fully
@olkris2666
@olkris2666 Жыл бұрын
Quick note on the throwing range: The direction you hold your stick in actually slightly influences the angle at which your bomb is thrown, so that can be left, right, forwards or backwards. That's the same mechanic that allows you to charge fizzy bombs by moving left to right, because it actually "shakes" the throwing angle. So for example, at 6:47, when Gem was trying to get the bomb in between himself and the opponent, he could've held the stick backwards as he threw the bomb to get a much shorter throw.
@olkris2666
@olkris2666 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the reason why Gem messed up twice here is because he knows about this technique, but since he was trying to demonstrate it cleanly while staying still, he didn't adjust his aim to balance this. Just a theory.

Great video, very informative. However, like many others have said I would really like a follow up talking about the intricacies of the other bomb types. A lot of what you said here is pretty universal, but there were plenty of specifics unique to splat bombs and some of the properties of the other bombs makes using them to their full potential a lot more of a challenge. Also I was surprised you didn't mention two of the uses of bombs that I've found have splatted me the most. They are related because the both often involve placing bombs in locations where the player can't see them until it's too late (and the audio cue isn't always enough to tell that you've moved too close to them). The first is using the bombs to cover a retreat especially from isolated high-ground or ledges. I can't even count how many times I've climbed the center high ground on Scorch Gorge thinking I was getting the drop on an unsuspecting enemy only to find they are gone and a splat or suction bomb awaits me. The second is the reverse, trapping the bottom of a ledge to prevent an advance. This happens to me most often as I'm leaving base when enemies have pushed in quite far, especially during tower control. There's often a lot of chaos and multiple bombs going off so the sound doesn't really tell me much. I hop off a ledge only to be instantly obliterated by a bomb that was hidden from my FOV. Obviously a little more caution could prevent this, but looking straight down before jumping risks me being killed by their main weapon instead, and often time is of the essence as they are making their final tower push.

I think the best use of the swim & jump method is when you want to cross a gap. If you jump just before a ledge, you can get a little distance over it and then back up to it after throwing. Because Inklings have Mario's mid-air control of physics, albeit to a lesser extent.

For the splat bomb ledge thing, I've been experimenting with it a bit in 2 but quite a lot in 3 to be extra sure, I'd describe it like this: The timer is related to its time spent on the ground You can observe so by doing many different test, examples: if it spend 2/3 of the "fuse timer" on the ground before going off the ledge it'll explode 1/3 of that time after touching the ground again Basically, to explode, it needs to spent the full "grounded" time, independent of if it leaves the ground or not Keep that in mind because you could surprise opponents with such knowledge, what comes to mind directly is Museum del Alfonsino, or personally, Sturgeon Shipyard, because in Splatoon 2, someone did it nearly perfectly to me years ago and it felt like a jumpscare I don't know all the english names yet for maps but the "main Splatoon 3 map" (I think it's called Scorchgorge something) also come to mind and the map with the see-through ceiling on the left that is generally an anchor placement, that spot particularly, also comes to mind (I think it's Mincemeat Metalworks? I'm not sure)

I secondary base scoped charger and splat bombs are so good for running away and pushing your opponent back with a decent chance of a kill since I’ve learned how to use them defensively so well to create space I can throw another offensively or even kill on the defensive bomb, also looking around edges when on top of a high platform and timing bombs to explode when they reach top while I fall off for extra safety in case it doesn’t kill is a very very good use

I think if you're good at pool a curling bomb can be a great way to blindside someone. I've never done it on command, usually using curlers for movement, but occasionally the stars align and it bounces off of two walls, around cover, and splats a pursuer (be it before he can splat me, or afterwards when he thinks he's safe).

I main the Hydra and how I use the Auto Bombs is pretty similar. Since the Hydra has so much range anyway and auto Bomba are easily avoidable for how slow they walk, I use them as support and pressure. Since I'm at a high vantage point I can see a lot of what's happening in a match, if I see a situation where an enemy is hiding, or a fight is going on I throw the auto bomb over there to get the opponent to move. Usually this ends with them dodging the bomb and either getting splatter by my teammates or myself from a distance. Sometimes they don't even notice it and get splatter by the auto bomb themself but this rarely happens. I love watching your videos because while I'm not a super competitive player, my friends and I play competitive enough to where this videos are very enjoyable and helpful if I decide to play other weapons and loadouts

an idea I thought of was a part of the skirmisher/slayer throw it upward to make the opponent move, since they’re more likely to see it in time, they’ll move, so you can try and make them move into a slayer or the sights of an anchor slide it along the ground to try and get the kill since it’s harder to react so quickly

a nitpick: the "cut off their options" bomb scenario works against someone using most kinds of close-range weapons -- but if you do this against dualies, especially tetras, you're dead. your opponent will most likely dodge roll forward twice in the direction you threw the bomb at, which then positions them directly at an angle from where you're shooting, free to shoot you on the single post-roll reticle. one of the strengths that dualies have is precisely the ability to ocasionally circumvent area denial! that makes it quite a bit more complicated to control them with bombs. (albeit certainly not impossible, especially you're able to use all of the same principles here to manipulate them into dodge rolling exactly where you want them)

Remember if you don’t know what to do with your bombs, when in doubt throw your bomb at the enemy Anchor (charger, hydra and etc) and watch their soul die a little in the inside to having being forced to reposition and readjust their aim. The chicken bomb for the hydra is probably one of the more useless bombs for zoning and splatting an opponent due to the long charge of the hydra (they are long gone when it’s finally ready). It’s not reliable like the splat bomb can be for splats, but it’s great as an early alert system. I throw them in places I suspect there may be someone hiding, or in places people often shark (usually I will chuck one over a ledge before I move to the edge so no one is hiding under me). It has saved my team from being flanked on several occasions. Add thermal ink and you may even be able to tag a hiding player even if you aren’t fully charged. You may not get many kills with it but awareness is a hydras best friend

I main ballpoint and fizzy is kinda similar there in some ways (although ballpoint partial charge helps a little). Splat bomb spaming with inkbrush is great. Lets you harass from a distance which is something the brush can't otherwise do. Inkbrush is a very ink efficient main weapon so even if you're chucking out bombs like crazy you'll still be able to smack anybody who pushes too close to you, or be able to retreat by running away with the brush held to the ground. If you're spamming bombs, opponents will often get impatient and then they'll come to you, putting themselves within your range and saving you the trouble.

Can you make a video on dodging (avoiding damage by going to squid form or jumping)? I don't understand how to do it effectively.

i think your use of ninja squid in the throw distance testing affected it quite a bit but people will still get the gist. i actually love swim speed due to the fact that not only does it help mobility, but im fairly confident it helps throw bombs further with the increase of momentum during a swim + jump + throw combo (basically a watered down sub power up if you ask me)

@rouge-ish324 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it does affect throw distance, but swim speed up does help you get to good positions to throw faster

Not *necessarily* true on the "forces them to move towards you" bit. If someone has a bit of swim speed, and a clear enough path prior to the explosion, they might still be able to fully clear at least the lethal radius by retreating, which can sometimes be the safer option depending on range each enemy has.

As a hydra main, I have no idea how to use my autobombs offensively. If I throw one in an engagement, I'm more likely to get splatted before I can charge enough to use the advantage it gives me. I only use it as a point sensor to check unsafe spots and occasionally throw it into a team fight when I'm either not charged or at a bad angle with no LoS.

Is there a way to trigger LDE in practice mode, so that you can get used to using your weapon with the ink efficiency LDE provides? Or do you just have to learn in real matches?
@aauz
@aauz Жыл бұрын
I don't think theres a way to trigger LDE in any of the practice ranges, but you can go into recon mode and it might work. you should probably try going into a ranked mode, but tc should work best bc you can keep the score around that 30 point area without actually having 30 sec to play around with. hope this helps!!

Everyone loves bomb spam, so I decided to bomb spam back, to see how annoying it is to spam and get splatted back as many time as I want Also use the moving training squidballoon to practice your timing and prediction on where you think they're gonna position, that what I do anyway.

My biggest problem with bombsisthat it uses a lot of ink so i get worried that i run out of ink. Ig the solution is aim better but like sometimes you get collapsed on and you still need that ink. Idk maybe im high or something

As a man who has tried a few different weapons with different types of bombs. This is mostly a splat bomb video. I think that splat bombs and suction bombs serve 2 very different roles. Mostly because one moves and one does not. The mist bomb, torpedo, and angle shooter also serve different roles and I would really appreciate strategy to counter those maybe. Just giving a video idea. Edit: to me suction bombs are mostly used for trapping or hitting people over cover, while splat bombs are more used for control, flat ground trapping, and to surprise attack.

I kind of disagree on your suction bomb edit (just sharing my opinion dw) To me, Suction Bomb is more of an area denial than Splat Bomb, Splat Bomb's direct kill threat makes for a quick control option, while Suction Bomb's slower timer makes for a more predictable area denial tool, because even if the opponent stays there a bit longer, they'll still have to move soon. Hidden placements are nice and cool but I don't really know if they can be considered the best thing. It's viable yes, but it's not consistent, the opponent could hear it being thrown, hear it land, see it at the right time, just not go there even though they didn't know.... Which is not a problem for the normal throw because the opponent will see the bomb anyway

I'm not amazing at the game but I'm very proud of my bomb placement, I'm so good at throwing them so that people won't notice them, in splat zones I main jr and the first meeting with the enemy almost always goes "Bomb - splat. Bomb - splat" and then maybe another bomb if i can get bubbler quickly

A quick question: How much does sub power up affect the damage of bombs? I’ve heard some people say that the ability doesn’t increase damage enough to be worth the slot, so it’s better to just run sub ink efficiency for more output. I’m not sure myself, especially since the ability doesn’t specify a number for damage increase.
@rokushou
@rokushou Жыл бұрын
As far as I know sub power up just increases the throwing velocity (and therefore range) of bombs. Even if it did increase the damage, it'd be pretty bad since bombs are 1 hit splats even with max slots of bomb defense up. Get sub power up if you want to throw further, ink saver sub if you want to do more with your main after bombing.

please stop saying last ditch effort is broken/needs a nerf.
