I bought mine new, I think it was Halloween in 79. The red color was actually a rather orangey red. I ran 20/50 Valvoline racing oil, there was once in cold weather (around 15 degrees F) when it was really hard to turn the engine over. Was rear ended once, by a lady driving her husband's Spitfire, knocked the muffler loose and had to be replaced. The weld wasn't very good and it eventually broke, and that engine gets really loud! I loved using the tonneau cover when parked in the sun during the summer, would walk out, unzip it and climb in, no burning flesh from a hot seat.

I have a 1979 MIdget RHD in UK, fully restored in British Racing Green with replacement bare shell restoration by an MG specialist, new interior carpets and seats in black , all wings , hood and bonnet and boot replaced with new items and now no corrosion anywhere, probably as good as factory finish. But I have not driven it yet on the road. Its in professional storage , now it is eligible for Historic vehicle classification. So it is ready to go.

Recently acquired a 79 Midget myself, and it has the exact same steering wheel squeak/groan (8:36). Just wondering if you ever found out what was causing it in your one, or do you just put up with it? I think it's some kind of steering bush issue, but not sure. Think I might straight pipe my one too, sounds pretty good.

Always good to take the air filter off and spray some carb cleaner in the carb. It'll give it something to ignite. That way the mechanical fuel pump can start pumpin.
