This is such a powerful message, Harvey. I struggled with perfectionism when I first started animation in 2022. I envisioned each animation as a demo reel piece. So, I applied for several months on just one shot because I wanted it to be perfect for me and my audience. I realized that I wasted a lot of time and gained minimal progress, had I just focused on making a strong shot and its fun aspects. Now, I give myself one to two months on my personal animations and break things into smaller chunks to retain and recall my knowledge. For those reading, ditch perfectionism because it's stunting your growth.

ABSOLUTELY DeJay, thanks for adding to the conversation and I learned that the hard way as well. I used to think that it was a good thing when people used to call me a perfectionist...the more you know! Thanks so much for the great comment and for the continuous support.

Great work, and great (VID), bro. This was very valuable information for (Young and New) "Animators". Great stuff. I try to (Teach) this same type of information to (NEW and young) Animators, but some of them just don't get it. This is a (Marathon, not a Sprint). Anyway, keep up with the great work that you're doing in the Animation community, Harvey.💪👊

Going through this for months now, always jumping to the next idea that I think is more reel worthy and worth my time. Thanks Harvey, I will finish whatever personal shot I have for the learning and if it turns out great I put it on my reel, if not just scrap it and carry my learning to the next one. Great advice, just what I needed to hear today.

Great video !! I have just discovered your channel and the tips you give are so motivating as a young animator.. Specially throught 2024 ! Thanks for reminding us to “trust the process” because it’s also true that we tend to quickly fall back into the desire of perfection. Without finishing any personnal shot...

Hey Melvin welcome to the channel. And absolutely man, perfectionism gets in the way, more than we like to believe letting go of that pursuit as fast as possible yields the best results. Thanks a million for watching and for the great comment.

I used to make Flash animations and getting stuck on a project was so frustrating. I would just scrap the file and start something new. The times I did finish something, I felt like I had to wrap it up early because I was getting fed up with working on it. I suppose that's why it never became a profession for me, and stayed as a hobby I had in my teens! One day though, I'd like to make a full and complete animation that I can be proud of. Your advice is really helpful for this. I'll never do it for a living though.

Hey Ramsy, glad you found it useful...feeling stuck in that spiral is so demoralizing. Even if just for fun, I hope you continue your animation journey. Thanks a lot for watching!
