Ivana, you are certainly not alone in having strong feelings about the state of current events. Thank God we have our crafts as a way to stay grounded and somewhat sane. Your woven shawl is exquisite. Your dear friend will love it! I wish you talked more about spinning and weaving and how you prepare your fiber etc. I just bought a drop spindle and am waiting for my fluff to arrive, no doubt I bought the wrong thing to spin (as a beginner) but I don’t care. Ivana, don't apologize for ur true feelings. Give yourself permission to b content in ur home and family. The outside world will always be a tornado of inhuman violence. Coming from a country with such horror; being a refugee; restarting a new life in a new culture. You have been a survivor. It's ok to b a survivor. Ivana- I resonate with your words about feeling helpless in times of chaos, injustice and brutality. Doing what we can to be loving and compassionate to those around us is one way that I think we can survive and do something to make this world better. In no way does it right what is wrong or even ease the pain and suffering of those that are in the direct line of warfare... but it is a small thing. I need to catch up on your podcasts... I have been away from KZbin for a while as I was in Canada caring for my dear mother who was very sick with cancer. She passed away a few weeks ago... life without her in it is hard and unfathomable. She was a maker and I will deeply miss our weekly FaceTime chats where we would ask each other, "what are you working on?" Sending love your way, Ivana!

I’m about to give something to a dear friend who is navigating her own personal hell right now and she will love it, even if she doesn’t like it 🤭 My hubby and I do Reiki so sending out positive energy is impactful. Helplessness is not an easy thing to live with and I know when I think and feel too deeply it’s overwhelming (and for me huge WTAF situation). I am all the way in California, but I have been feeling the same way about recent events. It seems so easy for everyone around me to live their daily lives and experience their usual joys and talk about trying new restaurants, but for me, thinking about all that is happening in the world seeps into so much of my moments. I don't understand how most people are able to just not think about it. It's so hard to see what we can do about it, but I continue to email my representative and talk to those around me to have empathy. I feel like such a huge downer for everyone and it feels like we are somehow the crazy ones, screaming into the void. It helps to hear from you that some people at least feel the same way, and I'm very grateful to see you speak about it with your platform.

Thank you for sharing your projects and your honesty about current global events. Feeling helpless is absolutely soul crushing. Conflict happening right next door must be even harder. I don't have a solution for our global predicament but I can suggest something to help with your fiber stash. Have you heard of vacuum sealer bags? Once the plastic bag with a zipper is filled, you suck the air out with your household vacuum! It has worked wonders for me in managing my stash. Oh Ivana thank you for acknowledging the raw emotions you feel as many of us feel this, too. I believe your son was right in that sending positive energy is a good plan. You can begin the ripple to begin shifting goodwill and balancing the world from its tilt towards negativity. I believe if each of us is a love influencer even in our own little circles on this planet that eventually all of those ripples of good will and love will merge and we will tilt the human consciousness towards the positive. I have been thinking of you since the day of your son’s birthday and your son’s graduation from the army and then the war broke out. Everyday, with sadness, I watch the news from Canada. After a movie about WW2 some female friends and I talked sadly about how STILL these terrible things are happening in the world.

Ivana I’m new to weaving. Can you talk a little about what size loom you are using and the reeds and weight yarns you use for the wraps you make. I completely understand how you are feeling. Don't ever apologise for your emotions. However, we do all need to find ways to manage on a day to day. I cry most days for so many things. But, we must also protect ourselves so that we can cope. I do avoid too much news: I listen to the radio news because we must acknowledge and now what is happening to others. Their tragedy and sorrow. But imagery is more difficult to bare. It sticks and replays in my head. I cannot cope with it. So I have to protect myself. Here in the UK we have had many protest marches in support of the UK government pressing for a ceasefire. Governments are crap though. Today we had better news, with a ceasefire to evacuate some of those poor wee babies. Sending hugs and love. x

Dear Ivana, you have such a tender heart and so much fellow feeling, it’s very endearing. Obviously you believe in God so you know this isn’t how life was meant to be. Humans wanted to govern themselves without God so he’s given them plenty of time to prove that they can’t. That’s why Jesus taught us to pray for God‘s kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. Soon God will destroy all of the implements of war and evil men (Isaiah 46:9; Psalms 37:10-11) and leave the Earth fresh and clean for the meek. Depriving yourself of the simple pleasures of crafting and visiting with friends is a needless sacrifice. There are worthy, honest agencies you can donate to if you want to provide assistance but honestly the best any of us can do is pray for God to bring an end to wickedness, which he will soon do. Don’t lose hope.

I think there can be a strong effect of "survivor's guilt" or something similar that happens to us, especially in situations where we can't personally make a difference. This problem is made worse by living in modern times, when events happening all over the world are presented to us daily. This is quite unnatural and was not a problem people had just a couple hundred years ago (not a long time in human history), before the invention of modern media. We can meditate, we can pray, and then we can continue to live. You should continue to live. You should enjoy your husband and your sons, your knitting and your garden, and all the family and friends who love you, because all of that is what's in front of you and what you can participate in.
