you should always have an extra chair for a guest or if one breaks! Also in a pinch, you can use one as a footrest.

that's a great idea, if you have space, otherwise I'm a big fan of multipurpose items. I have a batch of small storage crates that start out holding food, and end up holding our rubbish or dirty clothes etc. I stack all 9 of them with the food ones on top to form a table to help with preparing food.
