We have a group of heifers and a group of steers that are both averaging around 700-750 lbs. We are working with a friend of ours to ship two loads of calves to Joplin, MO to sell in a few weeks.

Eric and Ben, what's the cost per head to ship to Missouri from Roanoke? And I'm sure the driver and the cattle are glad when they arrive because there's not much stopping on that trip.

Typically the truck drivers charge by the loaded mile. It’s around $5/mile. We’ll probably have 50-51,000 lbs on a trailer so the cost per head will just vary a little based on their weight. We are weighing them this week and hope to do a video on that so maybe we can go into more detail on the shipping process.

Calves look great. Were those calves born on y’alls farm? How long did it take to get them to that weight? Looks like 700 lbs or so.

Yes, they were all born on our farm. They are mostly 11-12 months old. We are going to be weighing them this week. Hope to do a video on it.
