"why is this game like this", because it's made by the finns. Finnish indie games are usually amazing in some way, but also their porpose is to inflict pain upon the player. My summer car, Noita, Baba is you, Ultrakill, Barotrauma, and so on, all will cause pain mentally, physically, or socially.

my summer car is one of those games that gives you endless annoyment, its like a roller coaster, you have the grindy bits at the beginning where you build the car and just figure out how to survive in finland in the '90s, then theres the good bits, you get the car running, you get the car driving, you pass inspection, and you modify the car to make it faster, then there are the frustrations along the way, the car breaking down, the mysterious fires, the saves becomming corrupted, and the hilarity that is the only way to save the game progress...... is at the toilet, so peeing into a toilet allows you to save the game, it can be the toilet at your house, or it can be an outhouse by Tiemo's shop, though there are some hilarious easter eggs such as the "Scavanger hunt" for free rally parts that can be found around the town and upgrade parts that you can find in the "junkyard" outside of the repair shop, its one of those games that you hate it at first as you struggle to figure it out, but you end up enjoying it because the hard work pays off in the end... now if i only could figure out how to stop the random mysterious electrical fires my satsuma keeps having lol

As someone who has played this game many times over since I was a kid his frustration is quite reasonable. This game is 50% frustrating, 25% F*** you, and 25% Fun. Worth every second.

The entire Finland Saga (still ongoing at the time of this comment) has been a wild ride, strongly recommended! Martin's Kerbal Space Program series is also excellent, just as funny but with his fun way of explaining things applied to orbital mechanics and the history/possible future of space exploration, 10/10 would recommend.
