But realistic as someone who tried HOLY F*CK IS IT HARD You not only have to build good ships, you have to manage resources, build and manage supply lines, command your sh*t in battle, all while fighting what is most likely a 3-4 front war, often without any meaningful allies.

I have the achievement, I also have 1000 hours in the game and have watched around 150 hours of tutorials, it takes a ton of time, effort, and skill to accomplish this feat

Yeah, its not easy and takes time, took me about 1000 hours to get there myself, although now i want a harder campaign cause i ended up steamrolling the later faction due to having so many resources at the end. Xp

Onyx Watch are an early game faction and lore wise are basically Dwarves with Battleships, building what are literal floating castles with guns that would make an Imperial battleship blush. However, because they are dwarves, they are bound securely to tradition, and as such rarely bother with such silly things as "guided missiles" and "aircraft", and so are extremely weak to aircraft beyond a few special ships, as Frog figured out in his game. After all, you could use a fancy laser, or you could just drop a shell the size of a minivan on the other guy. From the Depths is wild and complex, and he hasn't even seen half of it. You can build just about anything if you are good, and each faction is extremely well rounded and themed. You have space elves meets war of the worlds, pirates with airships and particle guns, actually friendly AI who believe in castle doctrine with giant mecha, cyberpunk on the water, and people who worship a "flayed god" and are very eager to introduce you to titan scaled chainsaws, and bunch of other random people.

Yes, Borderwise if you want some good tutorials, and he is also doing full faction overviews recently which are really neat and Lathland shows of some incredible high skill gameplay especially with his new challenge runs.

Add another game that is going on a wishlist but only the heavenly being knows whether it will be bought and played within a few years. Also, the Frogman sometimes makes me want to go study some stuff again when I watch his videos. I mean this particular episode was an all but a D measuring contest with ships yet he taught us many things so well that if this was a college lecture I would remember them.

From the Depths is an incredible game with an incredibly steep learning curve. I have been playing the game for close to six years now, and I still don't understand everything. But I still love it immensely It's a wargame where you can build practically anything, as long as you have the skill and imagination. Like, you can actively do programming in the game environment to fine tune your craft's behaviors You can build ships, tanks, massive fortresses both on land and sea, hell even in the sky and space; you can build planes, space ships, orbital laser/artillery stations, mechs, and so much more. The possibilities are pretty endless

When you load the game, you get to see recent additions to the workshop by other players. They range from photo realistic replicas of real ships, some epic and beautifly made fantasy/sci-fi vehicle, or something just plane goofy like a flying milk carton or a giant ship girl from one of those animes. I think I remember someone asking one of these people in jest 'So what kind of degree do you have?', they seriously replied 'Engineering'. That's the kind of game this is.

The Twin Guard have the mechs, like that one. Steel Striders have the ones that for the most part look like real miltary craft - jet swarms and battleships and the like. I wonder if the teleporting nukes for the Scarlet Dawn will be added by the time Mart finishes this challenge.

It's probably something to do with his habit of declaring war on multiple factions at once. I don't know if he always knows which ones he's fighting at a given time either.

@@ultmateragnarok8376 Well, he showed the Onyx Watch (which I keep wanting to call Onyx Guard so I blame my time of playing Gears of War for that) and the Steel Striders faction emblems but none of the others... Which isn't very good for remembering what faction has what after some time away from the game and while thinking through a headache that makes one wish to commit Imaging Diagnostics Hallway but I digress.

Yes i can really recommend looking into FTD, it is an increadible game that you can sink literal multiple thousands of hours into! I've got almost 2 and a half thousand myself. XD

Man From the Depths is so fun. Building craft, trying so hard to figure out what does what and goes where to make a good craft. It takes time but man is it so fun.

FtD has a huge learning curve and there's also lots of tutorials out there. Robbaz was one of the earlier Streamers who did lot of funny videos. Robbaz probably inspired Martin to also play My Summer Car and From the Depths. Also Kenshi. Anyway, there is a channel called GMODISM who does lots of solid tutorials and strong craft builds for FtD.

Fair warning if you buy this game: the tutorials the game comes with is awful and the keyboard-only building controls (which I prefer over the more traditional mouse option the game gives you) are a little weird. Be prepared to watch videos and spend a lot of time learning stuff.

Given how good the lasers seemed to be I’m kind of wondering why mart didn’t just cram a crapload of those on his ships instead of using the extremely expensive missiles. Not to mention it honestly would have been way more hilarious if the flying deathpeens were firing just an ungodly amount of yellow lasers from the tip lol.

As someone with 200 hours in from the depths. I still have no idea what like 2/3rds of the blocks do and my designs eitjer work perfectly or I am baffled because it worked perfectly 10 seconds ago but now its flipped upside down.

I have beaten the campaign on very hard and I still dont feel like ive "gotten good" the game is it is very fun but it will be difficult to learn and the learning cliff on fire and covered in sharks extends to the heavens

The closest frame of reference I have to this game is Space Engineers, but ironically, that is easier to play, though decidedly less direction for single player, and lesser ai with less scary toys.

Just letting you know From the Depths is a fun game with a whole crap ton of options, if you have enough patience and IQ to do it. I suffer from motivation and Interest issues. I love games where I can do a lot of cool things Like Minecraft and From the Depths. However, I cant enjoy either game because of my own brain and glaring lack of intelligence. I'd say i'm more Hands On Smart than Programming and Creative smart. So games like Minecraft end up going wrong because I cant get the Motivation to continue a build or my Mood changes. and From the depths is my natural enemy because it makes me feel stupid. like... really stupid. my Brain struggles to accept BOTH methods of building. and I struggle to even enjoy any time I spend in game. I love watching FtD content. but always feel bad playing the game. so yeah, theres a simple warning. If you've got the IQ and time to spare to learn it, it can be fun. But be aware. The comment by Shaun_Jones is true. 1000 Hours is nothing in FtD. and if you go to the steam workshop you'll see Wizards at work.
